Lets See a Pic of Your tow rig and trailer.

I've waited for years to buy this truck. My great uncle bought it new in 03. It has never spent the night outside and never been in salt. 74k miles. 6 speed. It followed me home on Monday.

Here's an update. It's starting to look a little more like a truck.

Well the old 05 Cummins got stuck in Florida with a transmission electrical gremlin that the shop couldn't figure out. Tried 4 times to bring it home and after dumping thousands on one way air fare I gave up and traded it for this 2018 mega cab. Nearly cried leaving my 05 at the dealer but 800 ft-lbs pulling the white whale home cheered me up some.

Pulled the trailer down empty then pulled it back sort of loaded. Cat scales said gross was 20,100 pounds. Averaged 9.1mpg for 14 hours on the hwy.

That's actually less aerodynamic than the red tractor trailer in the background of your pic. 9.1mpg ain't bad for pulling a 6 ton house :D

I was good with it. My 05 pulled it down to Florida empty at 5mph under the speed limit and got 8.7 mpg. Big blue was doing 5mph over the speed limit loaded at 9.1 mpg. Hand calculates mileage. Although the lie-o-meter in big blue said 9.1 too... So maybe they fixed that in the newer trucks.

Is that a short bed? Physically impossible for it to pull a gooseneck like that :smokin:

It is a short bed, but with a custom fab gooseneck offset ball thing-a-ma-bob made from 1" plate. I can twist the trailer about 95 degrees before I get cab contact. I hardly ever pull that trailer though and my other trailers have the usuall skinny neck

Ball just on a plate further back?
I've thought about doingthe same.

I sold my 2018 ram 2500 and kept the 2007 3500, the radio in the 07 didn't have bluetooth or an aux input so i couldn't play my music on long trips. The 18 also had android auto which i enjoyed being able to have the phone GPS on the uconnect screen and the phone screen off. So I spent some money on a kenwood head unit to get all that back and today a pleasant surprise, it also reads the truck data and can display it like my old cts2 I had in the 06 flatbed.

That's a sharp truck.

Go look on crutchfield
I got a refurb unit kenwood Excelon DMX905S
I think the new model is 906s

I also got ththe module so I could keep my steering wheel controls.

This unit has 2 camera inputs and a video output so if I ever put a screen in the back for the kids it will run it.

I have had our stock trailer at some pretty damn good angles and not come close to the cab. This was when I first bought the trailer and it was straight on the ball w/o the offset and was still not really an issue. Mine is not as much of the worry being a V nose though. Strength wise and bus full of nuns insurance was not a worry cause it’s a beefy piece for sure!

Yup. I've got the square bore B&W hitch though not the factory round bore.

Really wanted a long bed, but under the circumstances with my 05 broke and needing to get the trailer back to NC I wasn't really in a position to order my dream truck. The mega cab is huge and will make family trips better especially since my kids are getting big. My 05 had a 3.73 gear and this 18 has the 3.42. I was worried about towing with the 3.42, but I had 9 hours of seat time in the 05 with that trailer right before making the same run with the 18. My 05 would down shift on nearly every hill - roar to 2,800 rpm and still not keep highway speed. The 18 holds 6th gear on almost all the hills and maintained the cruise control set point.

My 05 had air bags and needed them for the white trailer. I didn't have time to put bags under the 18 and had my doubts on how the rear coils would do. Also pleasantly surprised as it never jounced off the stops the whole way home. That said I would load the mess out of that 05 so the rear springs where probably shot, give me a year and the coils will be worn out in this 18 and I'll be putting in another set of bags. But with a 100 gallon transfer tank in the bed and the gooseneck (offset 12" aft) it did fine.

Going from a 4spd to a 6spd makes a big difference.

Finally got me a proper tow pig. Single owner e99 7.3 CCLB auto

Well, ended up selling the e99 7.3 I bought back in June. Fortunately was able to get my money back out of it and actually make a little bit (because...7.3).

Drove down to Madison, GA on Saturday morning and picked up this 2006 F-350 CCLB Lariat PSD. Pulled out of my driveway at about 2:45am Saturday morning in my wife’s SUV and empty trailer in tow. Got to GA around 8am after a piss and fuel stop, looked it over good, test drove, switched around the trailer, loaded the SUV on the back and turned and burned back to NC. So far I'm very pleased with the truck. The overall driving / towing experience is night and day IMO. With all the updates it's just a much more refined truck (I have absolutely zero interest in driving a 6.7 PSD right now because truck envy will do what it does). I'm now the 4th owner and the truck has 198k miles. It's been in GA and TX all it's life and the owner (again, old man probably in his 60s) didn't know whether the motor had been into before. I had a diesel shop in Madison check it out and he told me it had factory head bolts (I confirmed once I got there) and he said he couldn't tell what (if anything) had been done. My guess...it's fairly close to a stock truck.

Bought a Bluetooth OBDII reader and downloaded the Torque Pro app beforehand to monitor shiote on the way home. Below is a screenshot of what I was seeing. To me, things looked pretty good but not sure about the EOT / ECT delta. The highest EOT I saw was about 224* and the ECT hovered around the 12-18* spread but never got to 20 and typically didn't go over 15* but did a couple times. So...what say you @CasterTroy @Caver Dave @Ron or any of the other 6.0 gurus out here. I've talked to Scott a few times now over at Trucks Unlimited. I am more than likely going to have him do his thing for reassurance (ARP, Ford gaskets, test / deck heads, new oil cooler, not sure what I'll do w/ EGR yet). Other plans for the truck are pretty basic (MBRP 4", Livewire TS+, Ford updates w/ blue spring, etc., coolant filtration, some of the others things being mentioned in the 6.0 Tunes thread, etc.)

NICE!!

A delta of 20 is where you start getting concerned.
Typically it's the oil cooler/radiator getting clogged from when Ford put that gold silica coolant from the factory and folks let it stay in there for 100k. And it turns to sand and clogs everything up.

Not knowing the history kinda sucks, but I'd opt for an oil cooler at the minimum

If it performs decent for you, I'd do an EGR bypass, and maybe exhaust, but I wouldn't tune it

Is he still open?

Last I heard he closed shop and went to work for someone. But that may be rumor. Still on old 52 next to basset gutter?

He is...I called and talked w/ him last week (maybe the week before last) to confirm that.

If it's still stock and unmolested at 298k miles, then it's a good one. Don't make the mistake of messing with it.
