I'm hoping some of the chainsaw enthusiasts on NC4x4 might have some ideas for my chain saw running problem. I have an MS192T that acts like it isn't getting fuel.
Background: I bought the saw new in 2006. I have used the saw a lot for a home owner. I have run pump gas with ethanol for most of its life. It started having running problems about a year ago and I then switched to ethanol free to see if that would help, but it did not.
What I have done so far:
- New fuel filter
- Rebuilt the carburetor
- New spark plug
- New air filter
All of those things resulted in no change. It will start with full choke. It will not stay idling, but will idle for a few seconds or so. It will not take any throttle at all. It falls on its face if you give it throttle. I can hold the choke partially closed and get it to rev up just a little sometimes before it then falls on its face.
I'd check the fuel line and make sure it doesn't have a crack that could be letting in air. Have you tuned the carb like the above post? When you rebuilt the carb, did you clean the little filter in there and blow out the high and low idle screws good? I left a tank of ethanol gas sitting in mine and I had to clean that filter in the carb several times even after switching to fresh red can gas. I kept having gunk coming out of the gas tank. Fixed that by draining the gas and dumping in a straight can of carb cleaner and sloshing it around to clean the gunk out. Dumped that and rinsed the tank with fresh gas. Has run great ever since.

I cut part of the plastic limiter housing off the high speed screw so I could remove it. The low speed screw didn't have a limiter cap, so it came out without modification. I blew carb cleaner down every orifice 5-10 times, then blew compressed air down every orifice 5-10 times. No change at all to the way it runs. Continues to act like it just isn't getting enough fuel to keep running.
Check compression, I spent way too much time and aggravation on a similar problem and found the rings were shot. Always ran stihl oil and ethanol free fuels and probably only 40-50 hours on the saw. Last damn Husky I’ll ever own.
Husqvarna has a pro line and homeowner line and they are very different. I have a 359 with a 24” bar that is a hell of a saw. That said, pro Stihl is still the way to go.

Could the bowl be draining and not filling up? I know you said you cleaned the carb but is it possible the float isn't dropping? Assuming it has one like all other small carbs.

I bent the lever on the float on my generator cleaning it once and it would starve out when I got off the choke. Took me a while to figure that one out

I agree, just pointing out the senseless concern of the battery dying mid cut. Its faster to swap a battery, and you don't have to worry about if your fuel caps are facing up if the chain is hung up. And batteries don't have ethanol in them, so the saw will start on the first pull!
I know I was pretty anti battery yard tools in 2016 and now I use my Milwaukee battery chainsaw more than any of my others because it is so quick and easy.

I run a couple of tanks of gas and a couple heads of line through the weed whacker every time it comes out. I run most of a full tank through the backpack blower, and most of a tank through the edger. Those tools are all bought and paid for and start on the 3rd pull. The chainsaws sit around for months at a time, but when I need them I go through a gallon or so of gas at a time. If I bought a new saw, it would be something in the neighborhood of 6hp. I don't need that often, though.
I was at Low Depot a few weeks ago, and the riding mowers sitting out front were advertising prices in the $4000-4500 range. I thought that was pretty crazy, since they used to be $1600-2400. A closer look revealed that they were electric. No idea what the runtime is between charges, but that's a shitload of gasoline and oil changes to break even.
When I use a 4.0 battery, just a couple minutes. When I use a 12.0 battery, long enough to dress up 6-8 10-12" pines (cut off all limbs and cut the trunks into ~10ft lengths) and still have battery left over. I've cut everything with it. Oak, poplar, pine, ironwood, sourwood, dogwood, elm, sweet gum, and even old dry cherry. Most impressive thing is I've had it a year or more and never sharpened the chain. It's finally starting to show in hardwoods, but still cuts like a champ in softwood. I'd expect battery life to be several hours or maybe even all day for mixed trimming/landscaping use, and about a half hour or less for hard-core dedicated firewood cutting. Edit: And for a badass like @shawn less than 2 minutes.

There is a neighbor around the corner with a ryobi electric zero turn, the other day I thought he had stopped cutting gas as I came up to him because I was so quiet, then I realized what it was.
100% not worth the money, but damn to be able to mow with it so quiet would be kind of cool, but not 3,000 cool.

I'm still pretty anti-battery. I haven't bought any electric tools in the past 5 years since I made those comments. I looked at an electric auger, but it was $500 and said it could only drill 40 holes on a full battery charge. I ended up buying a 2-smoke HF auger for a little over $200.
My wife bought a Greenworks 80V hedge trimmer and pole hedge trimmer about a month ago. She likes the hedge trimmer, and was able to do everything she wanted before the battery went dead. I haven't tried either of them yet.
I'm absolutely shocked that your electric chainsaw runs that long on a single charge. I'm more shocked though that you haven't had to sharpen the chain. I typically hit each tooth one lick every other fuel tank. Sometimes every tank if I don't like the chips it is throwing. I refuse to use even a slightly dull chain though.

I bought a 10" Ryobi for limbing brush and to keep in the Jeep. Nice saw for what I bought it for. Runs roughly 40 minutes or so on a 4 AH battery but that's also not continuous time.
It will never replace my MS261C which I had out Sunday to work on a stump. That Ryobi probably wouldn't have made it through a quarter of that stump. Still love that Stihl MS261C. It's a beast (given that it's a 20" bar)

I think that is what I want for a limb/small stuff saw. I love the saw I got from @jeepinmatt with the 32" bar but damn she heavy for an old man. Just got to find one and the extra coin.

I did buy a 16" bar for the MS261C. It does take a lot of the weight out of it and is pretty handy but still slightly unwieldy when working brush. I found the Ryobi really handy when I was turning brush into mulch.
Bought the Ryobi from Home Depot. It was a little bit more than I was planning on but I chose the one with an oiler because stopping to oil the chain just isn't right IMHO. I chose Ryobi simply because that's what all my cordless stuff is. If I had chosen Milwaukee way back then, that's the one I would have got.
The pics on this forum alone are enough to prove that isn't true They last a long time if you keep them out of the dirt and don't disrupt the factory hardening and grinding. Plus its the "anti kickback" style chain, which does help by having the additional raker sweeping things out of the way.

Its finally getting to the point of "slightly dull", and I might just replace it with another OEM Milwaukee chain because it has been so damn good. I bought it almost for laughs, and have been nothing but impressed by it. No, it's not a big loud badass screaming 2 stroke, but I can go out at 6am and cut a tree down and the wife has no idea until it hits the house!

My Stihl MS192T won't run worth a crap anymore, and I'm about done messing around trying to fix it. I would like a light weight small saw for limbing. I'm not sure how lightweight either of those are though.

My mom has the 80v Kobalt Self Propelled push mower and blower and weedeater, and they are all very good. I can't remember if the Kobalt stuff is the same as Ego or Greenworks, but I'm sure both are pretty good. Stihl has a really nice battery saw too, but its $$$.
It will be a while before I buy another saw. People keep throwing away gummed up poulands at the dump and I'm up to 3 now. Got one more today .
That said, I am fairly impressed with my 20v DeWalt weed eater. I have 100 azaleas down my driveway and the 5ah battery has enough mustard for me to trim around all of those and my house before it dies.
