'85 Xtra Cab Build

Winch showed up today. Figured id give these new Engo winches a try. So far, less than impressed. Bolts were loose (not ones for the electrical connections) a few small scratches and the leads from the solenoid box to the terminals are a little short, limiting how and where you can mount the box and a few small frays in the synthetic line. Kind of expected with a budget winch and all of it can be made to work but just a few things that make or break first impressions. We will see how it holds up.

Brakes are bled. Found a few leaks and got those buttoned up. Hydro is almost bled. Need to get it off the trailer and cycle the wheel some more but it seems fine and no leaks so far. Got to top off and burp the cooling system and it's ready for a test drive.

You know it Robert!

Off the trailer and drove it around a bit today. Brakes and Hydro still need to be bled a bit more and go over all the bolts but it's almost there.

Winch mount done and grill cut to fit. Going to shake it down on Saturday and see how everything goes. So far the only things I think might need to be addressed is a rear sway bar to help the front end work a little more and a higher output steering pump. But it works as is so Ill roll with it for now.

Shakedown went good...Steering needs a higher output pump and to relocate a higher capacity cooler. Stock pump just cant keep up with a 2x8 ram and it wanted to get hot and lock up a lot. Otherwise it just flat out worked. We will address the steering issue then give it another go.

Had the night off work and cranked this out. Still need to cap the tubes and make a few gussets.

looks pretty good! You going to the flats on the 17th? I'm planning on heading up to watch, ever been to an ECORS yet

Doubt I'm going to the Flats. Going to start prepping it for April Fools Day Crawl in Harlan. Need to finish re-working the full hydro, get a new radiator (current one started pissing coolant from somewhere tonight), and finish tubing out the front of the truck and plating the frame.

Thanks to Alex at Carolina Truggies for getting me the Trail Gear full hydro pump setup quickly. Should slap that thing on next week and re plumb a few lines when I get back from NY.

Saw it at the flats this weekend. Looks good. Hoping u were going to do the hill climb.

Thanks man. It's still a work in progress. Lots of little finishing touches are needed but I'm getting there. Considered the hillclimb, even had the helmet in the truck. Just thought better of it with a trip to Harlan comin up.

Got some more prep work done tonight. New fuse panel for all of my accessories. Tail and amber lights out back, headlights, rock lights and brake lights all are on their own circuit now thru a new fuse panel and new switches on the dash. Wired in the winch and ran the controller to the glovebox. Wanted to do a dash mounted toggle for the winch but figured this was easier. Hid the solenoid box under the hood on the passenger side.

Some new Bilstein 14" Travel 5125's are sitting on the porch thanks to ECGS. Going to get the shock hoops welded up and shocks on this weekend then go over every damn bolt before Harlan next weekend.

I heard you mall crawling this thing. Need pics of it cruising the Boone town

Hahaha. I'll see what I can do. Its a definite mall crawler

Edit: cruised it up to the carwash to hit everything with de-greaser. A bunch of power steering and brake fluid from all the plumbing and finding leaks etc.

Shocks are on, propane tank mount is finally in. No more ratchet straps. Just gotta get it in the shop out at Nate's or Lucas' this week to hit everything with the impact and its good to go for Harlan.
