'85 Xtra Cab Build

Thanks to RIDES and ECGS, yesterday I was able to get almost everything I lacked to finish up the truck. Brown Santa dropped off some SRW front 60 hubs and rotors, an orbital mount, a steering column and some D60 wheel bearing kits.

Got the PSC steering reservoir mounted last night and some coolant lines re-routed. Nothing picture worthy.

Orbital in, tie rod made, hood pinned...

Got the hydro ram mounted tonight. Clearances are pretty tight when turned lock to lock but it should work out fine.

Should have the new front brake calipers in the morning. Going to get it put back together and rolled onto the trailer and move it over to the house tomorrow night. Will probably take it down to Alliance in a week or two for plumbing of the brakes and hydro.

Went to go weld the 14 bolt and put the new RuffStuff cover on today...stamping on the ring gear reads 10-41. Guess the axles aren't a 4.56 matching set like they were supposed to be. :shaking: Looks like I may be re-gearing after all.

that sucks man i went throught the same thing except i bought a used gear for the front and after about 5 months when i got ready to install it i found out it was a 586 instead of a 513.... i know the feeling hope you find one on the cheap i ended up getting it front 4wp in charlotte, at the time they were on back order and they were the only local place that had them

Yeah im going to look for a used 4.56 for now. The front is geared 4.56 so I will just roll with it. 92-1 drive in low/low should be good enough. I hardly used first gear on 38's and 4.10's.

Stretch, dont forget to post up the parts list for the rear brake lines! I need a cheat sheet.

Chad here ya go...

Russell braided 10" SS Line 7/16 banjo on one end and female inverted flare on the other. This runs into a standard 3/16 hard line running up the axle and truss. They join at the top with a standard Dorman Tee fitting. From here I have a soft line running over the joint to the upper link tube. Part Number for this (Wagner F49927, Bendix 88423, Tru Torque H49927, Raybestos BH36531) That should about cover all the local parts houses. After the flex line it runs down the link with 3/16 hard line again and into another soft line over top of the joint. This soft line (Wagner F130685, Bendix 77920, Tru Torque H380070, Raybestos BH380070). It will run more 3/16 hard line up the frame to the master cylinder.

If you wanted to, the two soft lines I have listed will thread into each other and be about 20" Long so you could just thread them together right out of the tee and run hard line down your framerail to the top of the axle since youre still on leaf springs. Should leave enough for droop without binding the lines. Way cheaper than running SS line the whole way.

I am using 1/4" rubber coated straps to hold all of the hard line to the axle, truss and frame. Got em at Lowes in the hardware section. Just gotta find the right drawer. They run about $1.40 per pair IIRC.

Got the truck back from Aaron at HCORE today. Lots of thanks goes out to him for getting that 14Bolt re-geared, welded and all my pinon flanges swapped out. Good dude to know and definitely took his time cleaning the housing and keeping me informed every step of the way. He's been my go to guy for ring/pinion/locker setups in the past and will continue to be for this reason.

Air shocks are charged now. It is sitting a little high but we will see how it settles with my propane tanks and tool box/cooler back there. Brought some more tube and a winch mount back from BudBuilt today so I can make a home for the new ENGO 9000S Winch that is on its way. Thanks to Profender for that one.

Hoping to crank out the rest of the brake lines on Friday as long as the weather holds out.

Some front axle beef from RPM and the truck sitting just about perfect.

Yup. They have a solid group up there. Id put RPM right up there with ECGS in terms of good customer service and good deals. I've had some less than pleasant experiences during this build with a few vendors so I don't mind a little drive to deal with a standup bunch. It's only an hour 15 from the house so it's not that bad of a drive.

A little shot of the rear axle all plumbed up. Just waiting on some braided stainless from Jegs so I can finish up the front brakes.
