90's throw back.....Manche build

You know, it's going to be a shame to have a less-than-perfect body on this masterpiece. You really have incredible talent. I mean the kind of stuff you see going to SEMA, but much more articulate engineering and execution.

It'd be so killer if Dan Short with DRS Automotive Fantomworks caught wind of this thread and wanted to team up for an over-the-top SEMA project. Crew it...I've emailed him before and had conversation with him....I'll give it another shot!
Thanks caster. I appreciate the kind word and enthusiasm. Ironically, I look at lots of builds all over the country, many of which make me still feel like a hack though. I'm pretty confident in my ability overall, especially doing all the work by hand with no automation equipment; wouldn't even know how to act if I had access to the bling tooling. I really do have much to learn still.

Any networking you would like to do, feel free!
It really depends on how you define perfect, which is intrinsically an opinion.

I can't think of anything I'd rather see this thing skinned as, not even a brand new MJ.
I feel the same way (of this era vehicle) , especially for a project to be used off road. Thanks Falco.

Rear end is tidied up. Upper link mounts complete, old tabs cleaned up. Only thing I may do is add some bash plating on the rear lower diff.

Also charged the shocks and threw a couple springs on to be ready to determine corner weight a little later.

And you just won the killer welds thread too, awesome work dude.

Thanks, but I'm just a one trick pony when it comes to welding. Haven't held a stick electrode in many years, and my tig needs many more hours behind the helmet to be proficient. I just stick with what I know...no pun intended.

There are some great welders here, that I have learned much from.

...I only show my best[emoji6]

There are a few I'm not very proud of, you'll have to find them-but I will own them.

Are you going to put some Rancho 9000s on this thing? Get the little in-cab controller so you can turn them up and down?
Damn straight, nothing but top of the line on this jewel.

Finally received the Hougen bits for my newly acquired mag drill, (bought in a load of scrap tools- fastenal had it brought up to snuff for $150!) Had to test it out, so I went ahead and knocked out the bash protection on the rear diff.

First two bends done on my swag brake

Next four done by hand with the vise and a hammer...then of course sanded and scotchbrite treatment.

OK we have been waiting patiently what did the manche get for Christmas
Busy holiday work week for scrap metal. Another busy week coming up. And then, an exciting (for me anyway) opportunity will fill up the first week of January. There will be a few updates on the manche in between, but no major progress until second week of the new year.

Matt

The manche got to step outside and take a break today. Had a play date with its new roommate for the week.

The mall crawling 4410 is coming in for a nut and bolt general inspection to prep for KOH 2017. I appreciate the confidence from Jay and Redlyner Racing for the opportunity. Looking for a podium finish from our local team!

You must be getting me or @ol'Jeeps confused with @mcutler . We can't drive. Cutler can.

Oh come on, give yourself some credit! You two can certainly drive...

it just seams you prefer driving on your side or roof [emoji481]
They're both great drivers, they just tend to have more scars on the top of they're rigs than on the skid plates.

Thankfully Scott builds stout ass cages!

...and they're both a whole lot more fun to watch than me....

Plenty of points to simply wrap a tow strap around a tube.

Matt

Sounds good, but in my experience it can be difficult to stop a strap sliding down an angled tube unless its a strait pull. If it slides that might mess up your cab. I'm not trying to say your'e going to roll over, just that it's possible. Even A small loop of 3/8in or 1/2in rod on the inner side of the tube, to slide the strap through when it goes around the tube would work.
Also this thing is awesome, Can't wait to see it wheel. You've definitely given me some ideas, from this thread and your buggy build.

bout the only thing Matt does as good as build is drive, and very experienced in recovery too. He should be, hanging around a bunch like we are! I think he's been off his feet once and that was a tire/wheel failure.

Thanks chip.

One roll over in twenty years, and that was racing. But I've had a dozen or so leaners that I've drove out of...and I don't take the easy line.

Again, I have lots of fun with my riding group...they're a blast to watch, and even more fun to heckle when they screw up! Especially those ol bastards that know better....[emoji12]
