 Speedometer reads 140. I expect nothing less.

I was thinking airplane cockpit.....with the Speedo comments I wasn't far off.

Heading to Mayberry early Saturday morning in the 3/4 ton Cadillac Silverado.
Bringing some grub also to feed the pit crew for lunch.
You know i got yer six...

Console done- (it will be permanent after plumbing and wiring completed), fixed section of dash complete- (last two sections will be removable). Fuse panels have a home, left is the mast motorsports relay/ fuse panel, right is kwik car 14 circuit chassis harness. Rear half of chassis was tabbed out with Ruffstuff zip tie tabs, the toolbox is tabbed and no longer homeless, still need to weld the hinge and add the latch.

All this sweet metal work and your'e just going to bolt the fuse/relay panels to the top of the dash? :shaking:

I know there's probly a plan for after Dixie.
Nope. I have always put the fuses out there where I can see then blow, and replace easily.

Fair enough. I was thinking some recessed pocket where you could still see them from the top, but not the outside.

This touches on something I've been wondering about for a few weeks. Knowing how Matt went through the last buggy over the years, tweaking and changing and modifying things, I'm curious to know what he'll change a year from now.

Not saying there's anything wrong with it, just saying that I bet he can't leave 'good enough' alone. ;)

There is no doubt something will change in the next year... it's just what I do.

From the beginning, I intended to do a luxury pre runner type interior, but I kept getting drawn back to a more race inspired, nut and bolt, wartime aircraft minimalism, essentials only design. Which became more realistic due to the confines of this tiny cab. Those who might be alarmed by small spaces should not ride with me...

There will still be much artistic element in the interior over the next two weeks, there are many panels left to complete to seal her up. There will likely be modifications over the years of ownership... See above....

And in the near future, (after Dixie) you will likely see something like this with the overhead area...

Link? I'd like to see more of that...

That was a quick Google search- hot rod magazine I think, "upholstered roll cage", also " luxury pre runner ", "custom roll cage interior "....

Most of the pre runner styling cues and ideas came from Dezert Rangers, and Race Desert forums.

Bomber inspired roadsters speak to my soul....
Even the copper crawler had a few cues from that style.

Symmetry and aluminum are deep in this man's heart. Keep getting it.

yep, the crawler was very minimal as well, but still had every bell and whistle...

Notice the fuse panel where my right knee would be...

I do miss her... but not too much...

Save me room for a grill tomorrow.
;)

Good progress was made yesterday.

Plumbing
-steering 90%, two lines left for cooler/ reservoir; stainless hardline, hydraulic hose
- brakes done; ni/cu hardline and flex
-water pump heater ports tapped for -AN fittings

Wiring
- chassis back half wired for rear lights
- taillight panel wired
- header panel cut down and wired
- gauge pod pre wired, ready for cannon/weatherpack plug

I thoroughly enjoy the entire build process and (for the last 10 years or so) primarily work alone for the entirety of a build. Its really nice to have friends that share a passion to come and pitch in on occasions like these. I think we all had high aspirations to get done yesterday, but what we didn't finish, we made up for with a great day of hanging together and enjoying ourselves.

Huge shout out to Scott @ol'Jeeps for working late with me and then making a 2 hour trek back home. Also to my old pal @jeepin-jason, for being here for wiring, his help is always a stress reliever for me; there are no worries when he's on the job, never second guessed. My pal Chip, who drove 2 hours to just be here for anything we needed, he helped all of us. And last but certainly not least, @Paul, who also drove 2 hours, for his hands in all areas, especially for serving us all with a kick ass lunch and providing us his knack for entertainment and story telling...

And for those that have had concerns about the foot room/driver comfort; ask Scott... he spent about 4 hours in the driver's seat while the truck was suspended 4 feet of the ground on the lift, plumbing stainless steel steering hard lines. While I did the cutting, bending, flaring, he was patiently reclined there, constantly attaching and re-attaching said lines till we had it just perfect!

Thanks my friends!

Btw; Scott and Jason even powered on without me while I was gone for 3 hours attending a wedding of a close family member.... That's dedication, thanks again guys!

Pics up soon.

Matt

Plumbing, (and the steering is now complete.) Fuel and trans cooler left to do, ran out of -6 unions.

Steering ram lines are same length, flex lines down the links for brakes are the same length, spares already here as well. Spare for ram line I will use for differential vent hose on rear.

Illusion I'm sure, but those lines attached to the upper look looker they might get awefully close to the exhaust during travel?

I loved the use of hardlines on the steering, not sure why more folks don't use it.

Plenty of room, just camera angle.

Hard line is definitely the best in my opinion. They can certainly be more work initially, but you can forget about them after install. They can be more economical also, after you have the tools.
