After a hard azz day at work,

That is exactly why I want to quit my job and do something else for a buck. Problem is not taking a pay cut in the process. I've nearly decided that it's worth it for the time with family and friends that I so desperately yearn for.
Pay cuts are over rated....its the dang Bills that kill. I once got laid off and lost 14k a year all at once. Showed me real quick what was what. Mostly that you can make it and that your wants and lifestyle can drive you to a "workstyle".
I had to sacrifice a lot and work hard but I made it. Then the cycle repeats. I'm personally ready for another reset, just not the laid off kind.

I've almost forgotten what relaxing is. Every time I want to I've got a 3 year old right next to me elbow dropping my nads or telling me to "come here" so he can show me stuff. If I work in the shop I'm literally working as fast as I can so I can get as much done as possible. In the evenings, when there were shows to watch, I'd do that with the Mrs. We'd watch a couple episodes then go to bed. The Mrs and I talked about it a while back but we'd really like to go somewhere by ourselves. I'm not sure if that'll happen anytime soon.
Let @Loganwayne babysit so you can get away.

Yep. Kinda where I'm at. Thanks for the reinforcing my realization.

His girlfriend just smiled and walked off when we talked about fishing this weekend. All she would have to watch is one. In her defense, it's the wildest one but still it's only one

Go to the next job, sleep repeat for next 7 days. Sneak in some free sundays for the family every chance possible, unfortunately not accomplishing that last month tho...

I took a pay cut on my last move and it was so worth it. Less stress, more time to spend with my wife, and my current employer is so much more understanding about life. Case in point, my dad was diagnosed with a rare brain condition in October last year. The doc told him they don’t know when the clock started ticking, but he’s got 2 to 4 years to live, and about half of that before he starts to lose quality of life. Memory and mobility will be affected hard, and that’s already showing. When I told the owner of the company I work for he told me, “Go see him as often as you want. Don’t worry about vacation time or personal time. It doesn’t get any more personal than this. You can work remotely, and if you can’t work, just tell us what we need to cover for you. Go see him while he still remembers you. Make memories now.” That, in and of itself, far outweighs any pay cut I took.

EDIT: Just as a point of clarification, my folks live up in MA, so when I go to visit him I'm out of the office for about a week. I've seen my dad at least once a quarter since he told me about his diagnosis. I can't thank my boss enough for his support.

A few or 5 beers on the couch or the deck......on a bad day w my back/sciatica/arthritis kicking my azz it's several or 5 shots of clear tequila in an hour or so. W the tequila I get much pain relief, great sleep, and zero hangover unless I get shitfaced.

Recently heard a sermon at church, and then also read an article, that talked about “how busy we are”

Like it’s a good thing to be busy in our minds. We greet each other with how busy we are, it’s a sign of success to be “busy” and if we met someone and they said they were not busy and just been relaxing, then society would just assume they’re lazy or a loser since they weren’t busy.

I am guilty of all of the above, but I’ve been working on trying to be less busy. This thread has pointed out how “busy” everyone else is too. I urge us all to make time to not be too busy and do what’s important. Rather that’s time with the family, or time to yourself.

Alright I’m done playing Dr. Phil....

There is a great Andy Griffith episode about this! I make a point to watch it every once in a while, to remind me that working/money isnt everything.......

I know the episode well! Andy Griffith is the greatest show ever produced if you ask me, my 7 year old has seen every episode with me twice now. We watch it as a family quite often.

Start YouTubing... I know it sounds dumb to most of us, but there are a lot of folks that have done it and make a ton each year doing it... Yes it is still work making and editing videos, but for many it allows them to spend much more time with the family.

I have the same dream, and hope to achieve it one day raising animals.... its more likely a 15yr goal than the 5yr one I hope it to be...

There are kids playing with toys on YouTube making 4 times what many of us make in a year every month

Very true. I find myself a lot of times wishing I made more money, wishing I could pay off this or buy this, but then I have days where I am at home hanging out with my wife and little girl and I think to myself "You can't buy this right here" and it all comes full circle. Yeah, I may not have the best of anything or be able to afford to take a vacation every year or even save as much money as I'd like to, but I wouldn't trade my nights and weekends at home for any amount of money.

Which episode is this?

They went to church and had a guest preacher, that talked about how busy the world has gotten and everyone needed to slow down and relax a bit. They sat around talking about it after the service, the decided they wanted to have a concert in town so everyone could “relax” but in the process of trying to put everything together for said relaxing concert, the didn’t even realize they’d made themselves busy and they were arguing about how it should be done, getting the band to practice, getting the outfits fitted, repairing the old stage, etc.

At the end they realized they missed the point and were once again super busy. So they were back on the porch, all tired and wore out and gave up on the concert. Bout that time the preacher came by and said “it’s so great to see y’all have taken my message to heart, it’s good to see you all relaxing”

But in true form for Gomer, he spoke up and said “we ain’t been relaxing, we been busy all day, we just sitting here cause we’re plum wore out!”

For everyone that feels “bound” by bills and such and you have to make a certain amount of money to live on, keep in mind there is a way out!

I don’t bring this up to brag, but to encourage everyone! I don’t have any bills other than my mortgage, at only 30 years old. My wife was able to quit her job as a CPA at a large tax firm last year, and we have more family time than ever. The rewards of the lifestyle I live now vs the 3.5 years of sacrifice I made to get debt free have been worth it all!

Don’t strap yourself down with payments you don’t have to have! Link below to my story of debt pay off!

**updated**-Dave Ramsey anyone?

The Dave Ramsey way of doing things definitely works! We took one of the classes and there is a lot of good info there.

I'm guessing he meant debt instead of bills....unless he lives off the grid with a well and an outhouse, uses the payphone down at the gas station and only drives a moped? :D
I knew where he was going too. My situation: living in a 1000 sqft brick house that my grandad paid off in '72(?) and driving beat up turds sub-$5k value, either paid in full or built with my own two hands. No debt here at age 32 and I wouldn't change it for anything.
@77GreenMachine is living like a boss, and so am I. I second the recommendation whole heatedly.
