Am I being a Dumbass?

Upside down looks much more better! That'd definitely keep the tailgate closed and eliminate the need for the canoe rack.

Looks much better BUT- you'll need to open the rear windows and run a ratchet strap around the cab and nose. You'll also need to drive the whole way home with your arm up, holding it 'just in case '. (A passenger helping isn't a bad idea either)

I’ll add that to the list.

Quick photochop. Wheelbase of my truck and chassis length are nearly identical.

Given that your drawing here is to scale, I wouldn't even use the lumber holder, just set in on the bed and tailgate, strap it and roll. The flat skid will be completely in the truck.

This all being said, shoulda bought a long bed.

Me and a buddy once drove a Uhaul from Kissimmee FL to Asheville. According to the odometer, it was only 110 miles.
Weird. Must have been broken or something

My thoughts exactly...
Imagine that.

That same shit happened to me once....

Rented a uhaul for a local trip, drove it from up here to Charleston, then to Wilmington and back. When we pulled in to the uhaul lot to turn it back in, the odometer showed we traveled 18 miles.
Crazy it took us 14 hours to travel 18 miles.

You would think they would fix the damn odometer on those trucks......

You had to load it and unload it..

I hate a long bed. Years of inconvenience for 6 days of need. I’d much rather redneck engineer the 6 days.

I would likely point it like this, but flip it upside down, so that it will fit completely down in the bed.

Either way, should be no issues. Just take something pipe insulation or pool noodles to ziptie around the tubing where it could contact the truck.

i didnt read all 7 pages, only the 1st one and the lase two.

that being said.... dude.. you are getting into the buggy game. your gonna need a trailer. go ahead and get one and make this trip less complicated and less stressful.

wanna save some money? buy the trailer out there. that way you are only towing one way.

I’ve got one hell of a trailer. Let’s says it’s overkill for a lil ol chassis. I’ve got access to my old man’s 20 foot Kaufman. At 14K capacity, even it’s overkill for a 12 foot chassis. Uncle across the farm has 3 trailers, 22ft, 8ft, and a 14ft dump. All besides the point. Think penny pincher and then you’ll get me.

Build or buy a bad azz headache rack attached to the frame through the bed and hang part of that buggy over the cab? it prolly would'nt be as air o dynamic but it might work and who doesn't like trucks w headache racks?

I bet if you roll I to Cali with that 3 axle trailer and your truck the CHP would shut you down for a bit.
They're notoriously strict about CDL vs carrying capacity vs what are you doing in my state, boy?

Dude, I’m 50 state legal! Had the trailer rated for 16K (it’s on the tongue) and my truck is rated for 10K. I’m 1 pound shy of that CDL limit. Come to think of it, you’re the one that warned me about this sitting at a certain Highway 55 burger joint. Called the manufacturer the very next Monday.

Mmmmm. Double chili cheese burger and a Reese's shake

Wanna meet tomorrow around noon?

Santa Ana, CA
I’ll do some talking to a couple buddies out that way and see if they can be of any help. One of them does a lot of shipping in conex containers to the east coast. Had my TJ shipped from WNC to Cali and back a few years ago for nearly nothing. I’ll see what he’s got going on now days on the right coast and let you know.

Wish I could. Stupid work... stupid bills. How else am I gonna get this buggy built? Probably starve to death trying to sell my bod.

I second the connex container idea, but a 20ft container, load the chassis into the container and have it shipped, once its here you have a badass shed. They are also pretty easy to move around when empty.

I’m still entertaining offers. If you know a guy that knows a guy that can do this less than my current price point, I got money.
