Automotive bubble....has it burst?

But, can i afford to fix the euro car when it breaks down? That's my question
In my opinion and experience, they are typically very reliable, but the fancy features break. The Japanese cars don't have as many features so the reliability is perceived to be better. Also, the forums and writeups for the euro stuff are very good and there are some really knowledgeable people on there. And some major idiots. Kinda like NC4X4

Eurodepreciation is real. There's a lot of reasons my DD is a luxodiesel. A 5-10 year old BMW is probably the same price as a 5-10 year old Accord
I have been wanting to get my hands on a TDI Amarok for a while now. Started looking around at the old rabbit trucks recently too.

I can help you with that. I don't want to deal with the DMV paperwork, but bringing one stateside is def. doable.

Probably gonna cost a pretty penny and I have no idea how you'd get it to pass EPA regs and DOT reqs.

If it's 20yrs old no mo EPA issues. Safety inspection only

Sounds like I need to talk to both of you. SC has not inspection. When I get serious I'll research it more. They came out in 2010 so 20 years is going to be a while. However I read somewhere they can be ordered as a commercial vehicle in the US. I think they are considered like the sprinter vans.

I'd be surprised but that would be the solution for sure.

@Bebop I got curious again and apparently Ford and VW have teamed up and the new VW is going to be built in the Ford Ranger plant.

They went to the Ranger platform in 2019 ;)
So...logic would dictate that a VW TDI could be bolted into a US Ford maverick and...well youd still have a turd but at least it would be a unique (apparently according to this thread, )desirable, turd.

Nope

There is a big difference between saying Ranger platform and Ranger copy.

It will definitely not bolt in.

Electronics are all VW etc

I mentioned to the wife last night I was thinking about getting our daughter a subaru. She said “are you trying to make her a lesbian?”😂
well you don't have to worry about her using it to conceive a child.

:D
Wiring and ECMs ? Thats someone else's bag

Question wasn't for me, but my reason is selfish. If the kids have a car to drive I won't have to drop them off at school.
Well, because I have a great son and he deserves it. He stays so busy with sports that he doesn't have time to make money to buy one. Plus, as @TARider said, we won't have to shuttle him around.
But it misses the point of my question in my mind. Why aren’t they facilitating the purchase of their own vehicle? The too busy thing doesn’t hold water to me. I participated in sports all through the school year, held a part time job. In the summer I worked full time. Held a 3.98/4.00 up until graduation.
My thought is are you doing this as self serving (don’t have to cart them around) or, are you facilitating the generation of self reliant kids who don’t have to provide for themselves?

p.s. I don’t personally know your situation but just making an observation.

See I'm out of the loop. Last time I looked into them was around 2017 or 2018 when I read about the addition of the 3.0 VW TDI to the truck line.

these are great questions to ask yourself when your kid is in need of a car.

I definitely know a shitpile of kids who were granted cars who are fantastic, self-reliant contributors to society. There are lots of ways to teach important lessons. This may or may not be the right one for somebody else's kid.

I can give you two that are twins. That I bought them an xj so I didn't have to sit in that damn HS line. Their mom was pretty useless once she spit them out.
