What else besides a cracked head is wrong with the motor?

are any of the pistons scarred or busted?

how about the rings?

Like was already said, the inside of the motor, from what we can see, looks clean

take the thing completely apart, check parts as you do

clean everything up real good throw a set of stock heads on the thing and go

there is a great book on the market for AMC's, called

BJ builds an AMC, detailed description, and pics show every step to building an AMC

I used it an built my 401, that was my first ever build

Thank you i might just do that.

Yes, Walmart is a public place too, would you cuss out your wife in the middle of it if she bought the wrong kind of razor?
he sure sounds like the kind of guy that would.

I dont like the idea of him getting banned, simply because then he can create a new account and we wont know its him, then one of us might accidently do business with him again. i want him to stay scarface so i can avoid him.

Dude.
Have you ever BEEN in a Walmart?
OF COURSE YOU DO. No one will even think twice.

hell, you'll probably have people jumping in on both sides.
Wait. I guess it will be just like here.
But with cheaply made crap.
Wait, I've seen some of the stuff Ricky's made.

Hmm, This place IS Walmart.

My brain hurts. Time to go drink a beer.

This has been on the net now for a few days and now I finally have a cool head. Some things were typed that were irrational due to myself having a hot temper and a react before thinking mentality. Mainly I didnt want to distort my name or interfere my place of employment or my own personal company in some trash that happened 2 darn years ago.

Shane, I am sorry this had happened. To be honest, I found out there was water in the oil at the same time you did standing in my garage. I completely believed it had been condensation from sitting in my non climate controlled garage. I have heard of condensation getting into blocks from sitting and thats all i knew. And you have to agree you are at part fault for buying with water in it. Also, you know darn well I had no idea the head was cracked as you picked that engine up with heads and valve covers bolted up so you know I was not into the internals of that engine before you took it home. That engine ran perfectly when it was pulled and that is why I had assured you the engine was fine. Yes, you did call me after you had purchased the engine, I did tell you to bring it to me and i would look at it. You refused. As the best of my knowledge that engine was in perfect operating status, as to why I had assured you it was fine.

Now, back to the engine. Other than water in the oil and a cracked head, what signs of wear are there that that engine will not run? Are the bearings scorn? Did the cylinder walls loose the hone? What is the excuse for this engine not being operable other than the stated cracked head. The pictures sure show a pretty crank/rods/bearings...

As far as waiting 2 years later, I am not doing nothing fincancialy or being responsible with this engine. 2 years is out of my range. If you didnt want the engine 2 years ago, your a big boy, why didnt you tell me you didnt want it and you were bringing it back? Just b/c I assured you the engine was fine your a fairly intelligent person to decide whether or not is was operable. I didnt need to sell that engine, I dont need the $1300. I just didnt need the engine and I needed the space more than it sitting in my garage.

The clean piston is the cylinder that had the cracked head, right?
Easy answer to why it's so clean, and anybody who has a clue about engines would know this: It was steaming the water along with the fuel/air mixture. That'll clean the whole cylinder to a like-new condition, especially if the engine wasn't that old to begin with.
Happens all the time....engine runs fine. Eventually the owner notices it's losing coolant, or an oil change gets done and there's water in the oil....regardless, most of the time there's no indication, other than a check engine light on new cars, that there is a problem.
If the people you had check this engine didn't know that, then I suggest you change mechanics.
Based on the evidence provided and my personal experience with hundreds of engines with problems like this, I fully believe that the engine ran fine and Studnuts knew nothing of any problem with it.
Hell, every 91-93 Explorer build had cracked heads...some of those engines went 100k+miles, burning coolant the whole way.
Yeah, I'd say you owe Studnuts an apology, both in person like a man would do, and on this forum.

with all that being said, it sounds like if you two worked together on parts and labor this whole deal could be resolved. i think that would be very stand up on both parties. i could be wrong, but your both business men and neither of which would like a bad name.

I disagree. I would agree if (and that is a big if) Shane did not make the original post attempting to smear spudnuts name. Even if he handled it like an adult the fact still remains.. it was two years ago. To my understanding spudnuts said he would fix the problem but Shane would have to pay labor. (fair)

Working in retail I have learned if you want someone to help you (even if they are required to) you must first be nice to them. You get so much further if you show respect.

If I was spudnuts I would refuse service to this guy. You will not make me look bad and put my job at risk and think you are going to get what you want. I do believe Shane has destroyed this bridge, and many others that could have helped

Is this still going on? I see the point from both sides, seems it got out of hand, and 2 years is a little excess to wait as well.

If I sold it I wouldn't fix it (or buy it back) either, at least not after 2 years (and what has gone on here...)

I haven't seen drama like this since I got banned from ncttora...

seriously, can we let this die? everything has been said 12 times twice already.

let scar and stud work this out on their own if they want to. we're not gonna fix a thing by reposting reposts over and over.

i would like to re-vote to lock this thread...it seems like a dead end, but really it's a cul-de-sac people just keep circling, like suddenly there will be a turn off, but no...just the same 4 driveways and the road back....just keep driving in circles folks...i'm sure the answer is in one of those mailboxes.
