best size/shape for mid-size garage

We talked about that.
He'll only do scissor trusses, but they don't really buy much on a 4/12 pitch and sespecially a 3/12. Still have 2.5 or so of height lost in the peak.
He wouldn't do anything unusual like a partial ridge beam.
What would Charlie do?

I would jump on that. That would have a been a pretty decent price around here when I built mine 6-7 years ago.
It dosn't solve my height problem. I'd only have 14'. Maybe you'd fit, but at my huge build of 5'9" I couldn't use a loft over a bay.

What would Charlie do?
Called...he was busy on the tow-motor loading lumber. Apparently he's the delivery driver

Just so I am clear you measure from the butthole to the tip right?
No, tip to butthole. Gotta keep the tape hook clean.

We including yet bawls in the measurements?

Truck drivers aren't allowed to drive fork trucks.
Unless they have 3 wheels and drop mud as they bounce along the highway :D

@RatLabGuy Have you looked into Miracle Trusses? Pre-Fabricated Metal Buildings | DIY Building Kits Ian from Big Tire Garage seems to love his new shop.
Thanks, I've looked at other open web steel trusses. Most of them are pretty tall, and have the girts above them. Way better than a standard truss, but still would not give the headroom needed. Those Miracle Truss's look a bit shorter but unfortunately I can't find actual dimensions on the site. Will call tomorrow.
Something like this will be plan B, and I'll just deal with having 1 in the middle of the space (I'm only planning on a 16' section for the loft), which would not be aweful.

The prices for their kits look really sttractive but you still have to locally source all of the wood for the perlins etc.

Why not just 3d print the whole thing? Modular construction.

That is a thing, you know.
But my printer is a little small.

Plus I'm sure my county would find some reason that requires 5 extra permits and fees.

Talked to these guys.
Few relevant pieces:
The purlins are 2x8s on end, and go over the trusses. So that adds a notable height loss in itself.
The trusses are between 20-24" thick (tall?) depending on snow load needs. Plus whatever loss due to the angle and trigonometry.
In my case with the purlins wouldn't be a problem but that truss would be a head-knocker anywhere except in the very center.

However I asked about purlin length/span between trusses. He thought for my snow load neeeds they can be up to 14'. I have to confirm county requirements and live vs ground, but if I can get away with that then I'll truncate my loft to a 14' span so it is between trusses. Worst case I'd put then at 8 or 10' (also have to work out garage door placement) and just have the 1 that breaks the space.

For the record they usually sell the kits as eeverything but the wood, you buy the purlins locally to save some $$.
They currently have a special for a 30x42 for $15k (before doors, windows purlins etc
