From the very beginning, this looked like a scene right out of Mad Max. It's bikers like these that make me want to puke when I see "Look twice for Motorcycles" stickers. These jagoffs were essentially picking a fight with what they saw as easy prey. It's amazing how quickly this entire crowd of bikers stopped the second the front bumper hit the rear tire of that bike. Screams of "set-up". I'm sorry, but if my kids in the back seat of my vehicle, whether it be a mini-van or a Range Rover, I'm looking out for MY KID'S best interest and if that means running over a biker that is trying to pick a fight with me and explaining it later to a police officer, then so be it. I do agree, that it was dumb of them to get off the highway, but who knows, he may have been close to a police station, or quite simply had to calm down a screaming scared child.
I've driven through NYC once. That was more than enough. I grew up in Detroit and know my way around a rough city. Even in Lexington, I drive very deliberately in a way that allows me to always have an escape route. It's amazing how quick things can escalate. In tight traffic, I typically hang back almost a full car length. Not enough to really let someone in, but enough that I can maneuver if need be. It also usually pays to be courteous. That said, there was nothing this guy could have done but what he did. I would have hoped that he was on his cell phone to the police the second after it happened, but odds are, they wouldn't have been able to help him.
