Still a bit more to do...

yes, I need a wheeling break. :driver: when is it? didn't notice it in the events thread.

btw, I like how your mounting the stinger, looks allot stronger than some of the stuff you see from the big names.

Flatfenders give those things a beautiful looking stance, I have a PSC trail stinger on mine with custom built tube fenders on the front and I took my rear ones off and put a rub rail on it, I LOVE the look it gave it man! you jeep is looking AWESOME bro keep it up

Making progress on the front bumper

Worked on the bumper a little today, Got the layout pretty much complete, I am still on the fence about D-Hole mounts. Not sure I want them hanging out in front of the hoop, Seems to me that they would get hung up. I may look at another option.

First off I finished up my spreader that will run from the hoop back to the top of the winch mount.

I made the first one by trial and error. I am using a degree finder and a HF tube notcher along with a Flap wheel and cut off disc on a grinder.

First one complete
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_SpreaderFinished.jpg

After making the first one, I made a template using some note book paper.
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_Template.jpg

Traced around the paper and cut it out. If you using this method, be sure to pay close attention to the angles and center lines on the tube.

Fitted to the hoop
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_GettingfinaleLayout.jpg

I added a cross bar below the bumper plate to add support to the fairlead mount, I wanted to push it forward a little more to allow more room.

Cross tube
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_MockedUp1.jpg

I plated the top of the cross tube with some 3/16 plate to allow the fairlead mount to set flush
You can see the edge of the plate here, I fitted it and bent the points down to fit in the joint better.
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_Fittingittogether.jpg

I went ahead and burned the hoop and cross bar on before I ran out of time today. Needed those burned in before I can weld the top filler plate in, I am plating the bottom of the hoop from the cross bar down. Need to pick up some flat steel.

Some of my welds, I think I did alright for a noob and a 110v welder.

thats really turning great. I think you should make a few xtra for the club members :huggy:

I don't have time to work on the Jeep this weekend, But I was able to get a few parts from Mud Pro on Friday.

End Caps for the Bumper, Just to clean it up a bit
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_EndCaps.jpg

The plan for the Tow Points is to mount them to the factory tow points using the factory hardware.
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_DRingHolderInstalled.jpg

I plan to weld around the mount once its bolted on, My fear is that the added leverage on the two bolts will be enough to sheer one off if jerked at just the right angle, say a side pull. Welding it will solve that.

As for the end caps I had them cut to clean up the edge of the bumper, I just didn't like how this looked.
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_noendcap.jpg

I think this will really make it look allot cleaner.
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_endcap.jpg

These were cut perfectly by Mud yet again, Thanks

I should finish this off next weekend and I may start on the rear carrier and cuting the wheel wells, But we shall see.

How are the hockey pucks hold'n up? Very creative!

Well I starting on my Body Lift. I know, I know, A body lift, but I need to the extra room to clear my upper mounts and tuck the skid up higher.
After looking at BLs i came to the conclusion that there way over priced.
After searching and a little help from "TJVigilante" I decided to do a puck lift.
Here is what I am starting with.
11 - Hockey Puck - Hockey Giant $0.99 each
6 - 1/2 inch bolts 4 1/2 inch long w/ Washers - Course Grade 5
5 - 7/16 inch bolts 4 inches long w/ Washers - Course Grade 5
I get my hardware at the Industrial supply house, they sale to the public at the counter and the 1/2 bolts at ACE are $1.20 and At the supply house there $0.25. The washers were like $0.02 each.
I have about $36 in every thing. That includes shipping on the pucks.
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_002_8.jpg_38e8966b1d0c30a3480a359f579c707a.jpg

I drilled holes in the center of the pucks.
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_003_7.jpg_92feeea6c195a58dee8b27221fc9ab70.jpg

Took like 5 mins to do.
I have no need for the linkage drop bracket, due to the fact I raising up my skid, I am also putting a 1 inch MML on. I have sourced some solid 1 inch plate to make some spacers, As soon as it gets cut I will work on it. I already have bomb proof mounts.
Now I got to start pulling the old bolts out and get to putting it on. Maybe I will get this done by the end of the weekend, Wifes out and I have the boys so, not right now.

Finished up Front Bumper

Well my wife and kids had to leave for vacation with my wife's parents Saturday Morning (Last min thing), I was unable to go due to work conflicts. So I will have a week of evenings in the garage :D.

I spent most of Saturday finishing up the front bumper. Damn there was a ton of welding and grinding, But it turned out how I wanted it to.

Just before Primer
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_WeldedUp.jpg

Here it is finished and mounted

Tow Points that Mud and I worked up, These will mount to any TJ front Bumper, Check with Mud Pro if your interested in a set (Contact info on his site), there 5/8s think and there very beefy, and they bolt right up, I welded mine on also just for over kill

Here is the finale one
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_FinaleStance.jpg

All in all I am very happy with how it turned out, It was a great learning experience, There was a ton of welding in this which gave me lots of practice that I needed.

And now on to the sliders.....

Starting on my Sliders

Friday I picked up some 6'' X 60'' 3/16th plate from "Novacane" along with some 2.5'' X 60'' flat bar, My intentions were to weld up the flat bar to the plate on a 90 degree angle. I would have rather had some 8'' plate bent up but It was out of my budget and the steel that I got friday was a great deal. So after welding as much as did on the bumper I decided that It would be worth it to have it bent.

I went wheelin at the Flats today with Chip "upnover", And out of no where he notices some rock rash on the side of my jeep and says "I got just what you need at home" I answer "Whats that" So out of the blue he says "I had some 3/16ths plate bent for some sliders for the CJ and decided not to use it". What are the chances of that? So he traded me for my unbent pieces.

Got them home, There covered in surface rust, but they cleaned up well
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_RoughMaterial.jpg

Cleaned up
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_CleanedUp.jpg

I needed 58'' long plate, the ones he had were 52'', So I extended them to match the body.

Comparison
ai298.photobucket.com_albums_mm279_burrellsjeep_Linked_Comparison.jpg

Thats as far as I got today, I will work on adding the tube next, and then on to the passenger side.
