Carpenter Bee's

Have lived in a log home for 30 years and have had a yearly battle with carpenter bees. Tried traps, poison, borax, tennis rackets, caulk, .22 loaded with rat shot (by far the most fun), with limited success. Last year, I was told to try carburetor cleaner (spray can w/little red tube). I sprayed every hole as soon as I spotted them. Soon I saw dead bees under almost every hole. The best part was they didn't return for the rest of the year. I caulked the empty holes in the fall.
This year they are back and going through their courtship. As soon as they start boring I am bringing out the carb cleaner and hope for the same result. I don't know why it worked better than poisons inserted in the holes, but it must leave some residue that repels the bees. Hope it works as well this year.

just finished replacing all the 30 year old cedar siding on my parents house. Combine carpenter bees with a monster RedHead Woodpecker and you can imagine what it looked like. I've found that they really don't like vibrations, so a hammer works pretty good to drive them out of 2x material (probably won't work on logs). when they fall out in their dazed and confused state, get to stompin'!!

been spraying with talstar for close to an hour and they are dropping dead.. they will come out of the hole and just sit there the fall to the ground i quit counting how many ive killed.... well worth the 35 bucks at southern states

group home 2 houses up from me has challenged young adults. Nice folks and they cause no problems.Working in the yard getting ready for roofers tomorrow,I noticed 4 were playing catch.Alot of ball throwing but very little catchin was happenin. I had a "burn in hell" moment pass through with a snicker to myself. When i walked past my pole barn, I saw them damn bees a buzzin. I picked up my boat paddle and went to swattin. These are the best of the best with the rest being too slow or stupid and dispatched days ago. I went to jumpin,swattin...missin..cussin...runnin...floppin...

I turned around and the folks 2 doors up from me were standing next to the fence watchin me. Did they have their"burn in hell" thoughts or did one turn to the others and say something about the "retard" with the boat paddle.

They are all over our deck/backyard every spring/summer and worry the wife bad. I just backhand them if I don't have a slat nearby when they get in my or the misses bizzness. The wind from cupped hand helps to push them away but backhand I smack them silly about every time if they are aggressive/in my face. Smacked they bounce off the deck, house, ground etc. most fly away silly like a drunk who's just been cold cocked and don't come back if the blow don't kill'em.

I just kill the first hundred or so and then leave their stupid little bodies in a pile so the other bee's know what I'm all about. hahahaha. Actually, that does not work (I've really tried it). The traps in this thread are a really cool idea. If you're bored or have little one's, get one of these....Yellow Bug-A-Salt 2.0 It shoots SALT!!!

they look goofy but they're really fun.

I got one of those in camo, works good for close sniping but for wing shooting its choked a little loose. I need to get on the traps, my '83 sits in a rough cut lumber shed and it looks like a bar floor on the hood right now.

I enjoy having mine around. They do leave a bit of a mess in my Jeep but they're decent company. I just don't have the heart to kill one.

This one I named Carl. He's in the middle of digging. Or it may be a female... Carly if so.

I've gone from shooting them with my .38 to shooting them with my .45. If the suns just right you can see the bullets impact.:sniper:
