Container house or shop - Just a random topic

Nothing saying you can't still buy a sea container and set it next to your shed.

Attaching things to the sea container complicates the simplicity and flexibility of the container. Attaching wood to the container is problematic (galvanic corrosion issues, poking a bunch of holes in your weathertight metal box, etc). Zoning rules in a lot of places say the sea container has to be a temporary structure, too. If you start adding shed roof or whatever to it, it's no longer temporary.
So shed beside box not permanent ,check. Shed attached to box and no foundation now permanent, check.
Man architecture standards have become lax....šŸ˜‰

Which is why Logan's guy just laid timbers on top of two containers. There s no attachment mentioned...

I snapped this screenshot the other day. Idk how cost effective this would be over a regular building but I would like to have something like this in time to put the truck and such under. Could add one across the back too. For me the value would be that I could do this in stages. The containers are useful from day one.View attachment 405878

Many of our contractors do this for storage on the job site and having a temporary shop. They have metal trusses that bolt together in the corners of the containers for quick assembly and disassembly at a job site. Pretty cool. Iā€™ve considered this for a shop at my land but havenā€™t done so since it isnā€™t exactly pretty

Has anyone here actually bought a container recently? All of the ads on FB Market or craigslist just seem kinds sketchy. lots of the same ads being posted by 10 different people, etc. Anyone have a company they have dealt with and trust? Thinking about getting 1 or 2 to keep stuff secure at my land until i build.

Another option is Equipment Solutions in New London (704.244.0956), I bought a 45' high cube conex from him back in '18. I think I had it delivered ~20 miles away for ~$3k and then sold it back to him ~18 months later for ~$2k...cheaper than a storage unit and I could come & go whenever I wanted.

I've got a bigger deck over trailer and found out if you get them from the port they are considerably cheaper. I've kicked around making the trip to save 50%.

I have a 20' container in my back yard.

I bought it when we were remodeling my house, used it as a "POD" paid $1500 at the port in Wilmington and brought it home on a trailer.

I leveled it put it in place and now I have a deck on one side with a metal roof over deck as shade area for pool.

I also cut a door into the back side and framed off a small room for all my pool chemicals. the other area probably 13' or so I have all my Christmas decorations and yard equipment inside. it works great for all of this. As for a house I am not sure I would want to deal with the extra support needed when cutting open walls.

Best pic I can find of container now

It is on left side of pic.
