Do you have metal building...snow damage?

Not a carport but it would suck to be the company that engineered and installed this canopy.
This is a store I buy lots of gas at too. SMH.

Good idea to shit talk your employer on a public forum, you are learning!
Stating my thoughts and opinions about carports and metal buildings, with added in comment about not just my boss but many in the industry being greedy making all the profits while wanting to pay people lousy salaries to do all the work. I just call it how it is..half this stuff I've said to him many times before when he asked me to go out and build them. He understands where I stand

you matter of fact first time he asked me if I wanted to be a contractor I said nope I ain't stupid enough to do this for that little money..he didn't like it but hey I'm a bold person when it comes to certain things, work is one of them.

And let's not get into people "smack talking"... I've taken 99% of it from people for long time (some well deserved) but am hardly one to dish it out. I keep to myself but I voice my thoughts on things that matter most to me when I feel the need

These are just a few that I've seen in Boiling Springs, SC.

I've seen over a dozen that didn't hold up to the weight.

We had 6-10" of snow followed by rain.

Daiuum that sucks, that's new looking truck under that one. Again people don't have common sense to think about this much forcasted snow on a cheap thin wall building and to trust a new car truck or hot rod under them in a storm like this is kinda stupid..my opinion

"don't bite the hand that feeds you..."
I agree, but in my case I'm hanging on my a thread any day now he could shut down due to lack of employees. My hours are already cut back but luckily I have other work to do

So, it’s stupid for the owner to use the product as it was intended? Never mind that it’s a piece of junk and looks like it would fail under a small storm, but why fault the owners who are using it as intended? I mean, if I had a carport and it was snowing, yeah, I’d have my vehicle under it to limit the amount of ice and snow on my vehicle.

Sounds like the manufacturers and installers should be the ones to get the fingers pointed at for selling a product that fails under its intended use.

Nope nope nope that's why his come with engeneered drawings and specs and if people read them, they would see that it makes out at roughly 8-9" of snow load with the total weight. He's got people complaining already but it's in the drawings. That's one thing different he does that others don't is provide those papers.

Oh, so he provides written documentation explaining that the structures don't comply with the North Carolina Building Code? That sounds like it could expose him to substantial liability.

There isn't a manufacturer that sells a "carport" intended for 15"+ of snow. If they claim it they're lying up the sale as a business would to make sales.

These don't fall under the kind of codes you're referring to. The dead load that a carport handles has nothing to do with building codes under the carport permit. They just approve the lot and that it's fastened down properly. The rest is between the manufacturer and customer I assume

It could be, I only know what he's told me and I guess I figured he knows lol but we will see with all these "failures"

I remember now it's because categorized under a natural disaster meaning if they fall over or get damaged by natural disasters are not held liable... according to him

I suppose it's the same principle with if a house gets turned down by a tornado or a hurricane, insurance is all you got but builders and supplier not held liable

Have you ever seen one of those carports that actually looked sturdy...? I haven't. All of those pictures above show them failing in exactly the way that they should, based on the way they are designed and built. Actually, I would expect more twisting, but I guess the bending failure mode occurs before that.

But you know this kind of wisdom would be asking too much from the average everyday person buying these and sticking expensive things under them when there is a major snow storm forcasted lol.
