I had one do that on my sawmill axle, but it was sometime in the middle of summer, no one was around, and the tire was probably 20 years old.

I've had a trailer tire do that just sitting under the shelter. Not even in a position where it gets any direct sunlight on it. Best place it could have happened, really.

What is really odd is just the night before I noticed it was barely touching the ground. No weight on it

Around 1990, I was under my 70 Charger putting Hooker headers on it, let it down off the jack after they were slid into place. I slid under the car to lift up the collector while a buddy started a bolt and had just slid back out from under it when the tire just popped and the car settled right down.

Would have crushed me if it happened 5 seconds sooner.

Glad that kid is OK.

Dang! And those are Michelin LTXs too. You don’t get a better more quality tire.
