well I finally got around to doing a few mods this morning..

I replaced the old rotted exhaust with new "headers" and a quiet muffler out to the side.

the steering wheel that was ont he car was crap and missing stuff.. so I got a new Grant one and replaced that also

I still have a lot of de wiring to do inside.. but all in due time..

and since i have hated the square headlights since i got it.. I put some new fenders on and new headlights that actually work :)

Looks good, but it needs to go down another notch or two on the rear.

Kick ass beetle, the wheels look nice on it, and the round headlamps are a HUGE improvement. Are you going to repaint to the same color? I think some candy tangerine would look really sick on it.

well after I posted the pics I got very motivated.. so I went back outside and got to work..

I put on the new "to me" rear fenders and lowered the rear 2 clicks

Nice! Alot better than the new bugs! Always had a soft spot for the classic Vdubs.

VWs..

With gas prices getting out of hand, VWs are now the shit! Im cruising to work on nice days in a sand rail I picked up last year. Gotta love the mileage, and the looks I get. Its the closest thing to being on a bike, with a full cage for safety. Bug looks good Ken, good luck with it. I dig the trunk lid.

Looks much more in proportion with the rear down and the chop.

Make sure to ebay those old fenders. There is a Mexican (or a YJ driver) somewhere with a grand burning a hole in his pocket...

i didnt want to say anything in the first thread you started, but man i am so glad you changed those square headlights out,now the bug looks real good:bounce2:

well i have not driven it enough yet to see how the mileage is.. I know the few days I drove it I romped on it and gas did not last to long :)

of course it was weird when I could only get 7 gallons into the tanks..

hahahah

I have already had other vw folks ask for them.. crazy people

How does it sit when dropped another 2 clicks? You had mentioned that it drops a lot when you have a passenger. I surprised you went lower.

the front dropped with a passenger not the rear..

my new air ride shocks for the front should be here wednesday so once those get on I am gonna put air bags in the back and then slam the car :)

plus then I can raise car to drive and slamm it when parked :)

so either tonight or tomorrow I am gonna drop the rear some more to see how low I want it to sit when parked.. I am probably gonna go atleast another 2 inches or so in the back

ya i never like the square headlights.. the pre 76 fender look a lot better..

x1million on the fenders - the new ones look tons better, front & rear...it no longer screams 1980s custom!
:)

are you going to swap out the louvered decklids also?
Anyway, looking good...

thanks..

as for the deck lids I am not sure yet..

Gary has another deck lid I can get from him.. but I am not sure yet.. I think I am gonna drive it for a little while and see if I like the louvers or not..

but they are growing on me with the new fenders..

Doesn't the deck lid have sheet metal welded under the louvers? I thought I remembered seeing that.
If so, has any rust accumulated in there due to it holding water?

it has fiberglass under the louvers.. so yes it has caused some rust.. another issue to fix.

That looks much better. I was considering it when it was for sale and you have fixed everything I didn't like. It looks like a real good ride now. Congrats.

ok well I was back at it again tonight.. trying to get the rear of the car lowered and equal..

first I lowered the car and the passeneger side was lower then drivers side so I had to take it all apart and try again..

here is the rear lowered a little to much :) tires were rubbing fenders.. oops

after taking it apart 7 times I finally got it right.. it is perfect level side to side and the same front to back on both side.. sweet :)
