Gas

Gawd... it must suck to have to drive to RTP every day to go to work.
Right now it does. I'm looking for a job closer to home, but that's not happeing, or a cheap, running motorcycle, which won't help in the winter.

Yesterday morning at the local store gas was $2.53 (should have filled up)
Filled up at that store last night.....$2.69
Went by there this morning ......$2.79
Came by on my way home this afternoon...... $2.99

I`m quite lucky that most of my driving is with the company van and they haven`t told me yet that I need to start leaving it at the shop. Still hard to see it costing nearly $60.00 to fill the thing up.

I saw the Chairman of the Energy Commission speaking on TV this afternoon. He was in Texas and had flown over the effected areas and was giving his spill on the situation. His remarks about gouging were that price per barrel on the stock market had only risen enough to change at pump pricing about $20-30. Some places are reporting $1-1.50 hike in 24hrs. He assured that the Strategic Reserves where being released and that an investigation was going to take place to repremand the gougers. I'd take that with a grain of salt. Anyhow I think I'm going to sit tight and bear with it. These prices can't last. The may not be short lived, but they will have to come down sooner or later. Funny though, I haven't heard not one word from the President about the crisis...

I looked up the trading prices on the NYMEX for regular unleaded fuel. It was selling for $2.61 a gal. That is up .14 from yesterday. Here is the link to keep up dated. Gas trading

Yeah that is what we thought when gas went over $2.00/gal

He realeased more reserves, beyond that he doesn't control fuel prices.

Not to hijack, but He knows and is probably has ties to a few that do. It just seems like our problems here in the US take a back seat to Iraq. What happened to the pre9/11 tax relief and helping the comon folk. Has taking care of "The Man" replaced the priorities here on the home front. I know the Pres. isn't the blame and that there are many others in the government who are on the lookout for themselves and making a profit. Just ask me if I care if Iraq has a constitution or not. Do you think that it will change anything? The fact of the matter is that if middle east didn't have oil they would just be another third world slum that noone would pay any attention too.

hhhmmm, let's do some math real quick...

use my gas tank and my usage since I don't know any of yours.

My tank: 20 gallon
price of gas the other day: $2.52
price of gas today (this morning): $2.69
I fill up once a week

@ $2.52 it cost me $50.40 to fill up the ZJ
@ $2.69 it cost me $52.40 to fill up
I go thru a tanka week (actually a tank every 8-9 days but we'll say a week and call a month 4 weeks.

So previuosly it cost me $201.60 a month to drive, now it costs me $209.6 a month

hhhmmmm, $8 a month or ride a bike... Thanks, I'll drive.

now at say $3/gallon we're at $240 a month. so $31.40 a month or ride a bike 30 iles to work and 30 miles home each day... hhhmmmm, I'll still drive....

No I don't like the price hikes, but c'mon...

Well with the gas increase I now take make les money than I did last year and that is after my raise at work.

I drive 66 miles a day and a year ago it was about 1.69/gal now at 3.00 that is a 1.31 increase X 330 miles/17mpg X 52 weeks that is a $1322 increase per year:flipoff2:

I worked out a $90 a month savings by riding a motorcycle to and from work 75% of the month.. That wouldn't really pay the insurance and maintenance on another vehicle... BUT, it wouldn't hurt. What hurts is the thought of another payment.

I can't think about riding a ratty old bike with loose head bearings, marginal wheel bearings, etc...

Blowouts and other assorted failures in a car are OK. On a bike they can be deadly. Damn I'm getting old.

I gotta admit, $100 a month more cus of $3 per gallon gas prices isn't gonna kill us, although with people loading into gas stations likes theres already a shortage, it seems like it could.
Sam's Wholesale club and Costco here in myrtle today are in the 2.50's and 2.60's per gallon. Wife just got it at 6pm for 2.54 per gallon. Everywhere else is 2.90 to 3.20 per gallon!!!! Time to get a sames card guys, they are always the cheapest and the gas runs the same in my truck and explorer there as when I go to Texico, mobile, etc.

Although I only fill a tank and a quarter a week per vehicle, I do feel bad for the guys that drive more than I do and it does make wheelin trips hard.

Few days ago I was angered by the raise in fuel also. But to put it into retrospect- hundreds of thousands are with out a home right now, they may not even have a car to drive anymore. So, when fuel hits 3.50-4.00gal, just remember that at least we still have our homes, families, cars, wheeling land, etc.

That's very very true. I saw something this morning that said 80% of New Orleans is under water. I've never been there, but that seems like alot of damage.

Yep, lets put that into perspective,,,,,New Orleans' population is like 1.3 mil I think they said.....Charlotte is about half that size if I rmember correctly. So imagine a city the size of Charlotte being 85% under water, and it gives you an idea of how devastating it must be in a city that is bigger (at least population wise),,,,I just can't imagine that, really, really sad

to me, riding my bike (motorcycle for any of you thinking peddle bike) isn't just about the mileage. there's just so much of the price raises i can take personally, and i guess you could say $3 is the limit where i start fighting back and purchase as little petroleum products as possible. i bought a bike for pleasure over anything, but the fact it gets 40+ mpg sure helps my little rebellion, despite the insignifcant effect it will have on anything...

i pumped 87.54 into the truck. that was diesel in WF at 2.65/gal. I saw .40 price variences from durham to home. I figured i better fill up now, i probably wont be driving the truck much anyway...

Im really liking my 30mpg sidekick econobox

A girl my wife used to work with has family in NOLA, only heard from them today. She sent a link to a local TV News station, for anyone who's interested here it is:

He was all over Fox earlier, IIRC. Saying his home was now home to 200 or so people. I couldn't help but think, what makes this dude special becides the fact that he has the $$ to absorb something devastating like this.
