Gas

That link should've gone straight to a story about Katrina. Lemme try it again.

NOLA News 2

Scroll down through the story, it's a timeline of events. Also click on the photo on the right, there are 43 pics of the flooding and damage in LA & MS.

I saw the Pres. speak this afternoon. He reapeated the news about the oil reserves being opened. The EPA was also going to relax the emission standards on gas and diesel to aid to help speed up the supply of fuel. The refining industry is strapped, not out of comission. He did say there was no shortage of fuel, but with the outage of a major pipeline the fuel was being transported by truck. The suppy has slowed but is still adiquate.

I don't understand why some are paniccing. The price of Miller Lite hasn't gone up. That would be something to get upset about.

Running out here in Morganton too. THose who have it, I have seen $2.99 a gal for regular. But on TV I saw $6.00 a gallon! The Honda will see a lot more drive time I do believe!

I am a member on 3 different forums... sad thing is i cant find anythign different to read about today. GAS, GAS, and GAS are the threads at teh top of each forums chit chat section. I'm bored with it. Pay what you can when you can and deal with it. If you cant take Public Transporattion. Not to be an asswipe but I'm sick of reading, watching, and seeing gas prices.

Filled up for 2.79 in HKY. Diesel was still at 2.49 @ Hess on 127N

STATEMENT GIVEN TODAY BY GOV. EASLEY CONCERNING GASOLINE SUPPLY IN NORTH CAROLINA

Raleigh - THE TWO MAJOR PIPELINES THAT FURNISH GASOLINE TO MANY STATES, INCLUDING NORTH CAROLINA, HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY HURRICANE KATRINA AND ARE CURRENTLY WITHOUT ELECTRICITY. THEY SERVICE NORTH CAROLINA AND 8-10 OTHER STATES.

90 PERCENT OF OUR GAS COMES FROM THESE PIPELINES AND RIGHT NOW THEY ARE NOT OPERATIONAL.

SUPPLIERS GENERALLY HAVE A WEEK OR SO OF SUPPLY. THEY HAVE BEEN SHUT DOWN SINCE THE HURRICANE.

THE PIPELINES NEED ELECTRIC SUPPLY AND THE REFINERIES THAT PRODUCE GASOLINE NEED TO MAKE URGENT REPAIRS ALSO ARE WITHOUT ELECTRICITY. THE REFINERIES THAT PRODUCE GASOLINE NEED TO MAKE URGENT REPAIRS.

CONSEQUENTLY, WE DO NOT KNOW THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM, BUT WE DO KNOW THAT THERE WILL BE A SIGNIFCANT LOSS OF GASOLINE IN THE SOUTHEAST, AT LEAST IN THE SHORT TERM UNTIL THE ELECTRICITY IS RESTORED.

THIS IS NOT ONLY A STATE PROBLEM, THIS IS ALSO A REGIONAL AND A NATIONAL PROBLEM. WE ARE HOPING THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY WILL TAKE SOME ACTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I HAVE TRIED TO GET DIRECTION FROM DOE BUT THEY HAVE NOT YET RESPONDED.

IN THE MEANTIME, I AM ASKING ALL NORTH CAROLINIANS TO CONSERVE GAS. SOME STATIONS ARE ALREADY OUT. WAIT FOR MORE INFORMATION BEFORE MAKING LABOR DAY TRAVEL PLANS.

WE ARE TAKING STEPS TO ENSURE THAT EMERGENCY VEHICLES HAVE THE SUPPLIES THAT THEY NEED, POLICE, FIRE AND RESCUE.

I AM IMMEDIATELY SUSPENDING ALL NON-ESSENTIAL STATE GOVERNMENT TRAVEL. I AM ASKING STATE EMPLOYEES TO CARPOOL WHEREVER POSSIBLE.

I AM ALSO ASKING ALL OUR CITIZENS TO BE SMART ABOUT THEIR FUEL CONSUMPTION.

I AM ASKING THEM TO CARPOOL IF THEY CAN AND TO LIMIT NON-ESSENTIAL ROAD TRIPS.

WE ARE NOT OUT OF GAS, BUT WE ARE RUNNING LOW.

WE MUST TAKE STEPS TO CONSERVE OUR RESOURCES WHILE WE LEARN THE FULL EXTENT OF THE PROBLEMS AND WHILE WASHINGTON WORKS TOWARD A REGIONAL AND NATIONAL STRATEGY.

WITH CAREFUL USE OF PRECIOUS FUEL, CONSUMERS CAN HELP US WEATHER THIS LATEST STORM.

NORTH CAROLINA UNDERSTANDS HURRICANES. WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH THEM AND WE KNOW THAT WE WILL WEATHER THIS ONE AS WE HAVE IN THE PAST. WE KNOW THEY CAUSE DISTRUPTION. WE JUST NEED TO KNOW AS MUCH AS WE CAN AND PLAN.

I do tourism research for the university and we use motor pool cars, we were shut down for the research we were supposed to do this weekend. I hope we get up and running soon, this is gonna really cut into the paycheck.

Folks down here in Greenville are going crazy....

87 octane is up to +/- $3.29 a gallon!!!!!

People are lined up to out in the streets. I was just goign to top off this afternoon but can't get to the diesel pumps becuase people are lined up threw the diesel lane trying to fill up 5 gal. cans of 87 and 93 !!!!

I talked to guys at the local Trade Mart where i usually fuel up and he said I was only the 3rd guy to fill up yesterday with Diesel and that was at like 4:00 in the afternoon, he said they will not run out of it but they ran out of 89 yesterdya by lunch and they were out of 87-89 and 93 on 3 of 8 pumps today at lunch!!!!

Its getting crazy, becuase folks are jumping to get fuel when they don't need it and creating a panic that isn't needed!!

WILL :huggy:

Yeah, my Burb and my Jetta are diesel, and there was no diesel line at the pumps last night in Burlington either. But there were too many cars in line for gas at one station for me to get in and fill up the Burb, so I had to go somewhere else. Regular unleaded had gone up from $2.49 to $2.99, but diesel only went up from $2.49 to $2.69.

3.29 for regular. I was down to 1/4 of a tank, lucklythe 6th gas station i came to had no line, but geez, 3.29??

eh, im still going to the beach this weekend:flipoff:

Place with off brand that HAD BEEN lowest around is now $3.19... and starting to see several others with their signs all BLANK, no cars at all. I figure that means they're empty.

Are we having fun yet?

every gas station between my house, school and my work is sold out. only diesel left now, i wish i could put the 524td thats up in the JY back together. im riding my bike till this stops, i have to drive to greensburrow to see sbandi on monday though

The Pres. said this afternoon that the 2 pipelines are back on-line but working at 1/2 capacity. You have to remember that it takes more than just electricity to run these facilities. You need man power also. And I'd expect that most of the people who work there must take care of their loved ones first. A little patients and clear thinking will help everyone through this.
