gas

Someone stated earlier that the pipeline was x number of miles long from there to here.
Guess we finaly found out how long it takes for the air bubble to get here. lol

so what about up near URE? we got a group heading up next week from thursday night - tuesday afternoon....i don't wana get stuck having to wait for gas just so i can get back to school

$4 a gallon for diesel and gas is like $3.77 in JC as of 6pm this evening.I dont know about E-town.

Anybody know if they have gas in East TN? Elizabethton Johnson City area? Boone's out and I dont know if it'll make it through the weekend :handed:

As I was headed home there were a few stations on 105 with some juice left.

I for one will continue to use the bus/bike for class like always. My quarter tank will get me to work and back until this mess is sorted out.

Reed, they may have it at the gas station at blowing rock, but idk. I filled up at citgo a little before 4 today, and it was a clusterfawk.

I really hate to admit I was in one of those messes last night. I am heading out to Harlan next week and didn't want to be in a position of not being able to get fuel, or worse, running out in the middle of no where. Or worse possible scenario, not being able to go. I got reports of no fuel issues up that way, but, as many know on here, first there were reports of plenty of fuel, no lines to out of fuel and big lines.
I called up to the Love's truck stop, they answered we have gas. I called back and asked if there was a limit. No limit. So I drove up there, and got the biggest fuel purchase of my life! $260.00!
So, I guess I will see how far it will take me.

Chip, keep me/us informed on the gas situation between where you are and Evarts. I'm going up in two weeks and this has been bugging me a little. I'd kinda hate to get stuck in Evarts with no fuel.

No problem at all. Look in past events somewhere around the 5th or 6th of October. I will include what I find on the way up and back. In case I do forget, feel free to PM me and just ask.

My friend lives near marion, and ordered a new 2009 Subi STI from a local dealer, they called yesterday and said your car is here, come get it, today they call and say please wait 'till next week, we have no fuel to fill it up!

Chris, Ill pickup that Ru for ya, I have plenty of gas :flipoff2:

I found some around 11am at the Citgo in Hickory, the one off of exit 126. It was $3.83. They let one more car in each lane go and then said they were out and bagged the pumps. HMMM

They never really run the tanks completely empty....too much trash in bottom of the tanks. Probably clog every filter you got.

I can't find a single place around here. Everybody was out between Charlotte and Gastonia. It's below E and I think I barely have enough gas to get me to the gas station. Just wish I knew of one with gas!

Every station on my way home is out of gas, but I had no problem getting DIESEL for my passat. There were somewhere between 10 and 15 people that pulled up behind me thinking they had gas. The lady that was behind me when I left didn't get it. I pointed at the big green handle and big green stripe that said diesel and yelled "ITS DIESEL" and she just smiled and nodded.

Our tanks, and probably most everyone else's are designed to cut off right at 300 gallons. That's to keep from getting the water that's in the tanks into the gas, and to keep all the trash down.

^^^ yeah thats what I meant.

The stories of folks taking off the pump handle bags and getting gas at after hour credit card pumps are the ones whos cars will be needing service soon. I guess they will know then that the bags were placed there for a reason. They said the stations were full of sh!t, that they had gas and were lying about being out. well guess what..they do have gas, water, sediment and who knows what else still in the tanks. Get some and see what happens to the engine! They meant they were out of clean gas.

just ask Firetoy (Tim) whats down in the bottom of those tanks. He should know, he cleans em with some crazy camera technology for a living.

This BS of people "topping off their tanks" is what's causing many of these places to run out according to many places around Charlotte I stopped tonight. Currently stuck here because everyone I can make it to is out. The place around the corner from me is even out of 100 octane!

I will admit I didn't read all 17 or so pages of this thread. But I will share my knowledge of the situation to clear up some of the things I did see on the pages I read.

(Do some stations lie about being out of gas?)
1.)There are a number of stations that keep gas reserves for emergency vehicles, their employees, and the immediate family of the employees. At my mom's station (where she is a manager) they bumped it up to 2k gallons of regular in their reserve. So yes there used to be people that would come in and take the bags off and start pumping and they would shut them off inside then come out and tell them the gas is for emergency vehicles only. This problem kept arising when police would come to fill up, and people would pull in thinking they have gas. So now they just shut off all the pumps so you can't get gas unless they turn the pump on for you (which means you have to be police, employee, etc)when they get down to 2k.

(Are people that top off really causing a problem?)
2.)I took off this weekend from my work before this whole ordeal happened to go to Uwharrie. But instead of going and abusing the ability to get gas as an immediate family member I stayed home this weekend and conserved. So I spent from about 10:30am till 1pm at my mom's station helping the police out directing traffic because they got in a shipment of 8.5k gallons of 87 on Saturday (Yeah I was bored). During this gas crisis usually they run about 1k gallons an hour between 8 pumps. You subtract 2k gallons from that delivery to go to the reserve and you get 6k gallons. So roughly 6k gallons should last 6 hours. BUT it turns out after running a few reports on the tanks, we were only going through 800 gallons an hour MAX.That means a lot of people are just topping off making this issue worse for everyone else. Like the guy I helped push to the pump because he ran out of gas. So that shipment that they got should have been out by noon, but when I left at 1pm they still had over 2k gallons to sell. Besides a large percent of the sales having been people only buying $5-$15 which will get you what 1-3 gallons. That is only enough to top off.

(Who has gas tonight?)
3.)They got a larger 11k gallon delivery today and didn't start pumping it till early afternoon after the local churches let out for some kind of event. So you take away how much ever you need to from the delivery to make up their 2k reserve and they still might have gas. Its big maybe but at 10:23 they would have to be averaging around the normal 1k gallons an hour to be out. And with the Panthers home game you never know. So the Petro Express in downtown Matthews across from the Exxon (next to the Vinnies Bar) would be a place to look if your out hunting for gas.

(Why do employees of gas stations need gas?)
4.)Gas stations still do a ton of inside sales even after they run out of gas. People stopping in to get coffee, beer, cigarettes, sport drinks, etc etc etc. Only when they actually have gas and the lines out to the streets block access do inside sales go down. You would think if people were conserving gas there wouldn't be that many inside sales (what gas stations make a large amount of their money on) when they run out. It has gotten so bad at stations with having to have police to direct traffic and keep the peace, people going nuts anyway, etc etc that SOME employees wish they didn't have gas so things would go back to normal. May sound crazy, but after experiencing it first hand for only about 4 hours Saturday (and I don't even work there) just helping out during boredom I wouldn't want to go through 2 weeks of that either. Thankfully I don't work at a gas station, but my work is right next to one so when the station does have gas we don't get any business because there are lines all the way down the street.

I just came off of hwy 73 in concord and seen a tanker putting gas in the tanks at the exxon all the pumps were covered with bags. came back thru about 1 hr later and all the pumps were still covered so I pulled in and asked the girl behind the counter if they had gas and she said no and didnt know when they would be gitting any. I had to throw the bull:poop: flag on that one and began to tell her that I saw the truck putting gas in the tanks about an hour ago and she said they were just checking them. so you tell me who is :poop: who.

Tanker drivers aren't paid to "check tanks", they are paid to deliver fuel. If anybody was checking tanks, it is the manager/employee with the dip pole checking level, or a maintenance guy in a service truck. (Or, the state weights and measures guys, but they are pretty obvious).

You got the :poop:

More than likely like many other stations they have been told to wait till morning to start pumping for what ever reason their bosses give them. Like I said just today the station my mom works at postponed pumping till after noon when they got the shipment in at 7am. So yeah she might be lying, but they are just doing what they are told from higher ups. I guess having police sitting at my mom's station allows them to tell the truth and say hey we have it but we aren't pumping for what ever reason. If I was alone at a station and was told even though we have gas we aren't pumping till 6am (what happened at a BP across from YMCA right outside of weddington) for what ever reason I would lie too. With people going crazy as it is I wouldn't take that risk.
