"Gonna do it right...maybe!!??" Fuller's new XJ build!!!

Are you moving again? I saw you had the vehicle canopy and wooden floor for sale on Facebook the other day.
Its possible..got some good job offers in hickory so if we can find descent housing then yeah we hope. Clover is too small/old, dead end job that sucks so its time to move on..I'm hoping and praying anyways!

Ok so here's the jeep..still work in progress but drives great so far..steering is smooth with WJ pump and nice and tight, got it up to 40 and pretty impressed for gravel rd and no shocks yet lol, stops great (minus leaking wheel cylinder), surprisingly torqui in 2wd for being 3:73gears and 37s...so far so good

I'm no mechanical engineer. I took one class of physics and understand the principles/mechanics of simple physics. That being said, that draglink is scary, stupid scary. With it setup like this, you are relying solely on the strength and integrity of your harbor freight welder/welds. I'll let the licensed PE engineers chime in to confirm.

You should have spent the money on a proper hi-steer setup instead of cobbling together this.... "thing". I'm going to be running SOA on my Willys and the steering setup is one of the most important aspects of vehicle safety. I will be spending the time and money to do it correctly and safely. You can't put a price tag on your life or the life of someone else. The fact that you took that down a gravel road at 40mph with no shocks is insane.

JF look at the end of this thread below. I used shock bushings to make wobble stoppers for the tie rod.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to do this on yours also.

Pic and description.

Works great. I've needed to replace them once since then. The rubber ones didn't last. The urethane ones work great.

Well sir I'm not bragging by no means but I've been welding with my welder long enough and been "cobbling" up stuff all my life on jeeps and no out of the norm breakage...I started out ..then before I knew it 40..(on 37s that's like 48:eek:) lol. With Chevy leafs in back and big bastard pack in front it doesn't bounce that bad considering no shocks. Gotta wait for some funds to get descent long travel setup.

That's cool and brilliant..I guess the little play I feel in it would be that movement in the heim? Thank u, I have plenty of bushings laying around!

Should I do it on drag link heims too?

And its a Lincoln that btw, once learned on well enough, can burn 5/16"easy on .30wire.

The rear D60 needs wheel cylinder bad..anyone can help with what year dodge or Chevy 60 to look up...advanced didn't show anything but scout 2 with reg d44..thank you

Run the bom on Dana's website and it'll tell you what that axle is out of.

Where would this # be on it

I will say now that its mostly done (waiting on shocks to actually run it) :it was fun/cool learning experience doing leaf springs in front but when I go 60 in front, I'm going to save up for coil spring setup again..unless somehow this setup impresses the heck outta me lol. It was way more annoying and involved than expected..maybe cause all I've ever done is 4link setup but can't wait to see how it wheels!!

The misalignment of the heims causes the tie rod to roll slightly.

This changes the effective distance from the Pittman arm to drag link mounting hole.

However the drag link is fixed length. Now you have a dead spot in the steering or slight play.

What is going to be urethane bushings on?

Did you click on the link to the thread I posted and read the whole thread.

On page two I have pics, part # and description of what I did to crest a wobble stopper to keep the tie rod from rolling.

The first ones I made were rubber. The second set were urethane and lasted much longer.

hate you pointed that out. Now I had to look.
Lol lol lol..(everything was going just fine till he said that) Haha Haha that gave me good laugh!!
How is that OEM drag link adjuster connected to the new half of the drag link?
I threaded a huge nut on there and did couple passes...its . Since someone pointed out the whole steering is dependent on my welds...that is the only thing I'm confident about hahaha (true though)
