Got mold?

fabreez should fix that...

But really if anyone ever saw that, or knew the amount of mold that was in that house they would never buy it.

some of that mold has been there for years. I can't imagine how dank that basement or the whole house smelled while someone lived there.

The cost for us to remediate at this point is a nice $13.5k

This is just for the demolition of everything damaged in the basement and cleaning the mold. That's not counting the cost of put back and remodeling.

Current state: still clearing the stuff out. Nasty rotted soaking wet mattress, clothes upon clothes. Magazines, photo albums, canned foods, stuffed animals. All soaking wet, and my Mexican crew is finding toys and saying they want to keep them and clean them up!!! These guys are nuts. I told them no way, everything must go. Unless I find a jar of money or bunch of gold stashed away it gets chunked!

I'm having green beans tonight

I've never documented a job I've done but I've never done one like this. I guess if you guys are interested ill keep you updated thru this process.

It should be illegal to sell that house.

That is some horror movie shit right there! I am usually game for just about anything, but I am with Mbalbritton on this FAWK THAT!

Man, what is the cost of that remediation going to be. Yikes.

I know in our old house we were out of town for a week and our dishwasher went bad and leaked out into our kitchen. We had mold in the crawlspace after just a week, and our insurance paid to fix it. It was a tiny little bit, on like three joists but still cost like $1000 to get rid of it. That is about a million times worse, literally.

Yeah, keep posting pics... That's pretty nasty stuff.

having went through this twice in 2 years on the same house and over 40 grand i would not put a penny into fixing that house. all that has to happen is one small spot missed in a crack or some where that got over looked and it will be back and the process starts all over again.

$13.5k for me to come out. Not including the cost of repair/remodel. I only remove the moldy/damaged stuff.

That is also the number for right now. If we find mold elsewhere we stop, let the home owner know and decide where to go from there.

As for saying screw it and burning the house, they want to keep it and fix it cause its their childhood home. So I sort of understand. And now that we've knocked everything out its not looking near as bad. We have some drying equipment in place now and it will be dry by the weekend.

The brother of the lady was there today and was almost in years when I came up from the mess with this little tractor

Nothing like warming your lunch with a space heater!

Stashed high in the corner, above some insulation and in amazingly great shape considering everything else, was the old mans secret nudy mags!!

Dated 1996, a Penthouse mag with Anna Nicole Smith, and High Society with Sharon Stone.

I had heard the hammers stop and laughing meaning work had stopped. I came down stairs to find my crew distracted with these...

That usually does stop men from working....

Yep. I had a quick look before I tossed them out. Seems Anna Nicole was pretty hot at one time. All I knew about her was she was some pill head who married a rich old man and overdosed on pills.

Yeah I was thinking of changing the thread title. Maybe I should make it more interesting.

It was pretty awful at first. I have been right there beside my guys, suited up and working with them the whole time. I wasn't gonna stand by and watch them do this job and not pitch in. Even thru a full face respirator with a char-coal filter the smell of nasty stagnated water was enough to have to take fresh air breaks every 20 minutes.

It is not completely gutted. I set up a heater and drying equipment yesterday and let it run all night. On my way back to the job site now so I'll post pics shortly.
