Is this for real, URE race?

another example of somebody trying to do something cool for the sport and all the critics start comin out to bitch about why it can't or shouldn't be done.

What I'm seeing here (or at least how I read it) is that many people seem to think that this kind of event doesn't happen in other areas of the country. It's unfamiliar territory for many. I tend to think, Why couldn't we have completions (better word than "race" maybe) here in our backyard?

Agreed but I'm not letting them scare me away from riding. I'll fight for our privelege to ride. I did with Tellico and I will for other areas. I understand your point and see where you are coming from but I think we can ride legally. All events have to go through these concerns of safety and public perception. I think just because it has "race" tacked on it sounds negative to some. If they changed the name I don't think it would have brought as much scrutiny.

I think its great to do events don't get me wrong. I just look at the problems with possible closures lately and its not like NC is a hotbed of public orv areas. Maybe I'm overthinking the situation but what happens if someone gets seriously hurt or some tree hugger gets some pics of participants running over a tree in a national forest? I mean this isn't like the desert where you can disturb the sand..........its a national forest open to the public at any given moment. Ah don't listen to me I'm just a pissy ahole who needs some strange and a budweiser at the moment

Big tires must be scary to people

There is no advantage to having tires bigger than 44's at ure. You'd do better with 40-44's.

As for being a naysayer, I never said I didn't want it to happen, I just said I don't beleive it will happen (I wanted Santa Clause to come, but didn't beleive he would). Those of you who are wanting it to be real and me to shut up, are you ready to send this guy $350? I'm not.

And whats with all you guys trying to weasel your way into a lower class? Crybabies:flipoff2:

Im gonna play an active roll in this event, at least attend the meetings. I would love for a few others, who are trusted on this board, to attend the meeting( see new post for details)
The main Idea is for a few scouts to meet and report back to this wonderful board and maybe get the bandwagon rolling and possibly, hopefully, alot of folks more willing to jump on the wagon.

If this thing doesn't go, it'll be because of the naysayers....and the best thing for it would be for Greg to sign up first....the rest will follow. QUOTE]
:shaking:Thats sad. Despite what some people actually believe, BIGWOODY ~aka~ Greg Stone, is not a superhero.
I'm sure the vast majority of the people here, including myself, would love to see something like this happen at URE. I just don't think its realistic.
We start something like this at URE and 10,000 quads and dirtbikes will be expecting to have their own races there as well..
Look at all the comps around the country and count how many you find in a National Forest.
To be honest, I hope I'm wrong and all goes well.....

Never said he was a superhero, but fact is if you want to sell something, find the one who makes the biggest impression and sell to them first....Greg's been around the block a few times and people know who he is. I haven't stated my personal opinion of him, but he's worked his life out to be able to wheel more often than most and tell about it.

Screw it, I just signed up for the D class.

Travis. I'll put an extra $5 that I can beat your time.
Dave Reese: I'll bet $5 that I beat your time too.
Greg: Uhh, never mind. You don't tug on Superman's cape. :flipoff2:

Is it worth puttin a thread on pirate linked to the new thread at this point? It is the largest offroad site in the world. Definitly draw some attention. Maybe try to get lance and camo involved w/ some east coast stuff. They always pimp the left coast events.

I've been thinking about doing it over there but it doesn't seem like my place to do it. The event sponsor should be getting in touch with Lance to get him to promote it.

I wonder if he knows what pirate is. I'll make a "formal" post in the other thread to recommend that.

Just being an ass here :)

The rules state
D CLASS – HEAVILY MODIFIED: This is the OPEN CLASS!!!! ANYTHING GOES!!!! BUGGIES, TRUGGIES, WHATEVER YOU GOT!!! There’s only one regulation... TIRES MUST BE UNDER 44.

Can I enter with a dirtbike?:flipoff2: I think I could kick Bigwoodys ass with one.

I say put up or STFU. If you wanna whine about impact and all that shit, do it on the Trout unlimited tree hugger board.

Whether it happens or not, good on him for trying..

And yes, we're in.

Thats what im talkin bout'..gitten staight to the point !

This is slightly off topic, but it has been discussed in the other various posts regarding the 4x4 cross class regulations.

In my opinion, to even out the classes so that it is truly fair for rigs from one stock XTerras all the way up to full on buggies, it would break up something like this to me.

CLASS A: Stock
I think the defining thing here should be traction devices. Allow lifts up to say 4 inches, and maybe 33" tires, but no lockers. The way i see it, an open diffed Wrangler with a 4" lift and 33's is really only going to be marginally better than it's bone stock equivalent.

Class B: Stock Mod
For this class I think it sould include stock type suspension(i.e. no long arms), stock drivetrain, tires up to 36", and 1 or 2 traction aids. This would create an in between class for the stock rubicons to compete in. This would keep them from having to compete versus Class C, which seems like too much to me. I also think having two lockers allowed would open it up to a lot more people who dont want to compete against the bigger crowd. I know I am obvioulsy biased though, as I fit into this category. I run 4.5 inches of lift, 33s, stock gears and two lockers. I know I could hang with anything in Class B as i have proposed it, but don't think a vehicle like mine should have to be competing against 38" tires, dual cases(even though this is a race, they could come in handy for a couple small sections) and custom linked suspensions.

Class C: Modified
Class D: Open

I think with the easier classes refined, these two could be left alone, except maybe including up to 40" tires in Class C, since Class B would have up to 36's.

I know these are jsut suggestions, but I feel that these would make the classes a lot more fair for the smaller rigs. It just seemed like the original modified stock class had no place.

I am with you all the way! i think it is cool as :poop: that this is even trying to happen, and I give the man some credit for even trying. I know there are some questions that need to be answered, but it seems like a lot of people are just jumping on the bandwagon and nitpicking things to be able to complain. Just the fact that this many people are excited about it(good and bad excitement included), means that a lot of people are interested, and that is what needed to happen. I hope it happens, and I hope it is a huge success! I too though have a few doubts , but i for one will let it play out for longer than 1 day, and give my questions a little time to be answered.

Started following this on the US Jeeps board. Seems like ya'll are more interested in the event.
If this is real I'm bring 2 trucks up from Atlanta. I just want to be sure it's real before dropping my cash.

I have to agree the class structure is difficult and needs to be reworked. Also is this a one shot run? or do we get best of 3 ? or average time of 3?

People are asking questions out of concern. There could be 8k pounds of trash and shit left out in a national forest and who do you think is gonna get blamed. I'm sure they will personally call the people responsible and ask them to clean it up. How about if someone gets seriously injured? Must have been their fault. I'm not naysaying that it will happen or not just asking questions. Alot of you guys could give 2 shits about UNF but I don't have a buggy I can go out to tellico with so I'd like to keep my easy lil craphole avail to the public and opened for my jeep. So sorry to ask a question.
