Is this for real, URE race?

I don't know if this is for real or not, or if it's even going to happen. I hope so, but to any nay sayers, and those "On NF land?" and "Where's the money going?"....

.. If you were to organize and put on a event, I'd be happy to pay entry and if you made money off it, SO FAWKIN WHAT? Good on you!, or organized and took the effort and time to do it, you should be rewarded. It's not a charity event tailored to your entertainment is it?

and to the "On NF land" (honest question, and maybe I should ask it in the other thread) Where do Werock, Urock, EverybodyRocks, hold their events?

Ease up and be optimistic that someone would want to bring a venue like this to somewhere local.

I see people slamming into trees and getting hurt...but I hope this works out.

Ditto. I hope it doesn't end up as a black eye for the wheeling community. Frankly I am surprised at some of the support for this given the usual stance of protecting our collective reputation on public land in order to preserve it.

My .02 I did talk to Sean last night on the phone. He said he'd answer any question asked, I said he 'needed' to answer them on the web, somewhere, and to pick a forum, people will FIND the answers IF he posts them.. He had hoped for emails etc.. Not happening.

I offered to help facilitate some Q/A (the new thread) so please keep that thread just for Q/A and the 'discussion' here...

Honestly I'm still not sold. In theory its a great idea. The logistics are what will make/break this... I've not been convinced of why I should spend $250 to enter a URE comp. I'm willing to go and partake IF the questions are answered to my liking. I fully understand this is a new 'event' and many things aren't solidified yet..

Also, I could care less if he blocks a trail and he's not 'allowed' to. IF everyone who goes 'agree' to not being on the trail for the day, thats fine.. IF it helps the event go, it would open the door for other similar events to happen with less effort, and resistance. Or this could slam the door shut for us @ URE..

Side effects could be a big eye opening for locals to see what/how much $ could be brought into the local economy from such events.

He has a place to answer questions and take/make comments, its up to him to do so.. Anything else at this point is just pure speculation on our parts..

I respectfully disagree. I don't see why a race can't be held on public land. I'm sure all those desert races out west are not restricted to private land.

I don't see why unf is anything but a great place to have a race. If people crash then it's a bummer but that happens in racing. I don't see people saying that the desert racing community should be shut down because a racer ran off the course and crashed. I don't see people saying that the guy shouldn't have been allowed to race because he wasn't a good enough driver. He entered a race and made a mistake.

Yes, we'll need to keep other rigs off of two trails for a day. In my younger days I was a competitive surfer and the organizers took over a beach for most of the day all the time. Yes, other people wanted to surf there but there was a comp scheduled, deal with it by going somewhere else.

I'm psyched about this event and the proposed course.

The beer needs to not be present for the ones that I always see drinking at UNF on the trails........ Also, it's public land and I always see kids moving all around the trails. PARENTS need to watch the young ones. I often see parents that get so excited about "what's going on" and forget about lil' Johnny or lil' Suzy and then they have no idea where the kids are.

I really wanna see this thing happen...... let's all be smart about it.

Taking over the trails doesn't bother me in the least. It is a given. I am more worried about trees getting damaged, trail torn up, an accidental wild ride through the woods that will be too obvious to miss, and all the glass, plastic, fluids, etc from running into shit that won't get cleaned up.

I don't see this happening for a ton of already mentioned issues and then some.
On the other hand, I'll be taking bets on tw89yj winning the C-class. I know first hand he has plenty of driving experience for something like this:flipoff2::burnout:

We don't need to give the birkenstock-wearing, video camera toting environmentalist hippies any more ammunition to help shut down our trails. That's what I'm afraid this will lead to.

Here they hold rallie races on the "normally closed/restriced" state forest roads about twice a year. Those cars tear up the dirt roads and banks, so with the right permits I guess anything is possible.

If this thing doesn't go, it'll be because of the naysayers....and the best thing for it would be for Greg to sign up first....the rest will follow. Something like this is all about exposure, if the famous guys (on this board its obviously Greg) question it, it'll never go. If the famous guys jump on board, even if its doomed to fail the followers will find a way to make it happen. Make sence? It's basic econimics of something like this that is done withought initial sponsorship from the city/county its in.

I'll be there as a spectator, but I don't have a buggy done to compete...and I'm not famous here.

So, if you want it to work, convince Greg to sign up and post it here and on Pirate.

That's sweet.

I tend to agree. If everyone is being complete pesimists about this then I don't see how it will ever fly. On the other hand, the questions need to be answered along with a detailed list of sponsors and other info. I'd like to see this get off the ground and become a regular event.

As far as the enviro nazis go they are already getting people scared to go into the woods with their trucks. Fuck'em. If we want an event then we should have one. If we abide by the rules and stay within the permit limits I don't see why this would be a problem.

Also, I'd like to compete and I hope it goes off without a hitch. The only problem I have is that my rig weighs 100 tons and I have 42s. There's no way I could take out a buggy unless I rammed into one. Anybody got a set of 38s I could borrow :shaking::lol:

This just seems

like a really bad idea to me esp with everything going on with other public orv areas. Why wouldn't this just be done somewhere private where it might not get thrown back in our faces? And sorry if I'm a "naysayer" but this could really turn into a disaster if someone got seriously injured, alcohol got involved, or a slew of other problems came up. I just don't see how this can be compared to desert racing etc. Most of the time there are a lot more safety regs out in the desert (didn't say all). I know the point is to bring in some people right off the "dealership" but do these people really need to participate in an event like this in the first place?(not saying exp drivers just really straight off the lot guys)

I don't know if youve noticed this in the past few years but we haven't "fucked them" theyve fucked us......over and over.

I don't consider you one of the naysaysers. You are bringing up valid questions of impact. I consider the naysayers the ones who bet against it happening before we have any proof.

Agreed but I'm not letting them scare me away from riding. I'll fight for our privelege to ride. I did with Tellico and I will for other areas. I understand your point and see where you are coming from but I think we can ride legally. All events have to go through these concerns of safety and public perception. I think just because it has "race" tacked on it sounds negative to some. If they changed the name I don't think it would have brought as much scrutiny.

I think it's awesome that there is going to be a rock-race at uwharrie.

I don't see why some of you guys are being so negative. Just accept the event as it is and have some fun with it!...dayyyuuumm

We as a 4x4 community should embrace an event like this!
