Kodak rock closed?

The major problem I have noticed by talking to people up there is people know for the most part the names of the trail but not the number of the trails. I really wish our diamonds were big enough yo put names up but they are way too small. Heck even I get confused by the numbers but know the names like the back of my hand. People will as me how hard trail 89 is and I really have to think which one they are talking about and I renumber that trail at least once a year.

I believe the big picture here is not ATVs, OHVs, or Highway/Offroad vehicles...its the people using them...I've been going to Uwharrie for 6 years now and have always done everything in my power and with my group to keep things as safe, clean, and smart as possible. I have seen WAY to many trail users regardless of vehicle just go up there with a THROTTLE OUT attitude on every obstacle...what they don't see is the effect the vehicle has on the erosion and rocks...if everyone was a little more calm and smart and took things easy instead of flooring it and hoping you land on 4 wheels(or 2 for bikes) the trails wouldn't suffer half of the abuse...notice which trails get shutdown and repaired...its always the ones with challenging obstacles...with the UORTC (Uwharrie off road training center) now people should be put through a small class possibly through them to understand what a treat it is to have a place to go and enjoy trail riding and how we should all try to preserve it as best as possible...also everyone should be taught about equipment safety and recovery...to many winches in wrong places and around trees killing them...trees hold the dirt from washing away so we need them...I may be stepping on toes here but everyone should take a look at what has happened at Tellico and understand Uwharrie is headed down the same road unless people get some sense about there wheeling. Unfortunately we will never weed everyone out who is causing the problems but maybe we should all work together to help get this stuff under control and maybe work something out to get the NCFS some kind of OHV/ATV or work out ride alongs for the trails to help deter the wrongful users from even showing up...also I think we should help to get BIGGER BETTER signs notifying people of trails and what's required like out west many trails have signs notifying users the trail is difficult and requires a certain tire size, winch, lockers, no by-pass and rollover/body damage highly likely...this would deter the by-passers from going and finding an "alternate" route around the obstacles...all in all many will not read this, but the most who do should help get the message out and get everyone motivated to protect our small off road heaven and do what ever it takes to fix these problems. Just putting my ideas out there many will disagree and I'm sorry but it would be very inconvenient to have to travel more than a few hours to hit the trails.

Has it been suggested that maybe they do like Harlan? By that, I mean set up a booth so that everyone who enters URE HAS to pay and HAS to see the map and rules. The park would make more than enough extra money from all the dead beats who don't normally pay to more than take care of someone's salary to run the booth. This also might help make EVERYONE that comes into the park informed about trail closures, staying on the trails etc.

No, it's simpler than that. If you can't drive the first ledge, you need to turn around and go back to the parking lot. Lockers nor winches are "required" to run Daniel. A lot of people seem to think so, though. Then they pull up on the ledge with 35psi in the tires and give it hell.
just need QUALITY PARTS is all. IMG_20130119_115821_659.jpg

I'm not 100% but from what I have heard Southern four wheel drive did alot of lobbing for us down in Atl and the FS decided to do a permanent fix for Kodak. Basically putting the wooden 6x6 guardrail on both sided from top to bottom. We will get it back but it will not be till next season.

When it comes to bypasses and stuff how about something like this?

This is from potts mtn in Va. Wasn't even familiar with the mtn and could navigate no problem with five inches of snow on the ground. FS maintains that trail BTW

Not likely from what I have seen and know. The good news the Forrest service has requested funds to open a new trail.

Is this the new 'Lake View' trail that we have been hearing about for some time that uses parts of the old 'Big Branch' trail and 'CCC' trail?

Yes. I have walked it myself this last year to see where it actually goes, but it has changed since then in a few spots that i am aware of. If you blink while walking you will miss the lake also. I myself think this trail is actually still a couple of years from being made / opened. Too many other fires that need to be tended to first i think.

Not to answer for him but nope. Not looking good for this year.

I will post up after the work day, I am meeting with the fs.

Looking forward to hearing what you have to say.

Would be interested in the issue. Is it money for guardrail? Or other things?
