Kodak rock closed?

agreed very stupid cant tell you how many times i have seen it there people do stupid things every day and if the camra guy had a gun that just means 2 people get shot im just stating the obvioius if your not the law dont try to inforse it just my 2 cents
Taking a picture isn't enforcing the law, it is just collecting information.

A wall of shame would be great as well. You could do it online as well- that would make a great Facebook page. Shame people who do the wrong thing while fostering an attitude of respect for the rules.

I have taken pictures of armed folks before, it is a far cry from taking pictures to getting shot. I am a ham radio operator, and we had a big problem up here with hunters buying ham radios and running them illegally while hunting. We started tracking them down, and we learned really quickly that confronting them, no matter how nice and polite, didn't work. They told us to screw off and they didn't care about the law. But taking pictures of them and their vehicles, then simply handing them a printed page that explained the laws and that we were taking pictures of lawbreakers to refer to the game wardens and FCC did- they all complained about us on the radio to each other, and they said some less than nice things, but we got a few in trouble and word got out and they all moved to using other kinds of radios.

Doing that isn't taking the law into your own hands or enforcing the law- it is simply helping law enforcement by gathering information to them.

What about if the guy with the camera has a gun?

Drinking and carrying is a big time felony. That would be REALLY dumb.[/quote

You may want to check up on that, that law does not apply to open carry, the law states " you may not consume while carrying a permitted ( CC)

i think a fb padge or even a thread on here with pictures of people being stupid would be ok that way your just makeing them feel stupid and its something that could start right now we dont need any bodys permission. what i dont think is a good idea is some body thinking they are the law waring a volentear trail watch shirt or sighn driveing around with the sole intention of giving pictures to the cops thats just a good way to get hurt or your rig messed up we dont need a nabor hood watch but a dumb ass page sounds like a great idea

OK back on track. I sent an email to Ranger Walker and what we can do is on illegal bypasses is use caution tape to block the spider trails. This wil do 2 things, one, mark the trail so the quilty see it and and 2 make it quicker to get these fixed on maintance day with a more perm solution...ie brush, winching a tree that has fallen or if neither of these are there, requesting a swayer to fall a tree for us.

Anyone seeing issue that has a GPS please post up the cords for us....

Have we looked into getting swfda or blu-ribbon to help out with donating the materials for guard rails/fence?

I know they spent alot in the fight for tellico & might have some resources they can pull from to help fight this also before it's back in court.

They have donated a dump truck and back hoe already. They are also helping with information to help with standards and we will be working with them on trail assestments.

Somebody or someone needs the means and authority for enforcement of rules already inplace. I just don't understand why man power can't be used for this when it would generate revenue in the form of penelties and fines. I've meet Rangers on more than one instance at Brown Mt with atvs on the back side of the mountain. Why on earth is UNF any different when its user base is ten fold? Any idiot knows to straighten up and fly right when on the main roads and parking areas. The most damage and the most costly to repair is what is being done on the trails. We should and can maintain all we want but as citizens we need to press the Forestry Service to put their big boy briches on a earn their pay grade. If we donate and produce 90% of the labor they could atleast do better than 10% of the enforcement. Maybe this should be our complaint to our Gov't officials? Create a petition for a Gov't based grant that funds a "trail Officer" position. Our equestrian counter parts and mountain bikers have secured grants for trail developement. This could be our version of trail developement.

For the record sir,
I do not hate on any offroaders of any kind.
Full size, atv and side x sides, we are all in this together.
My comment was not directed at any group.
And def not you.

Glad I read this post. I thought when the previous poster mentioned the FS having 'a side by side' he meant a double barrel.

Look ya'll. Instead of finger pointing and guessing why it shut down on the internet, lets just get going in the right direction. I have put it out on both threads on here what it is going to take to do this. I have also put it out why it had to happen, and it is not our / the USFS faults.

Its going to take us working together to get it opened back up. It is hard work, but they have been fighting out West so we can too.

You've pointed more fingers in your last few post than anybody, you and your "it's the quad crowd" you people want more support I suggest you quit trying to piss in the atv, Mx, side-by-side, crowds corn flakes all the time. We like to ride Sam as you, and YOU PEOPLE are just as bad to get off the trail and act a fool. As far as this goes all the outdoor sportsmen need to start working to get along, be it power sports, or fishing, kayaking, biking, whatever. So how about rethinking some of that bs your spouting. Clubs could stand a revamp and invite some atvs and what not in.

You must ride an ATV, sounds like your taking this personally. Reality is it's a generlization. Most of the time I see quads going off trail is to go around the 4X4's.

Saturday i talked to / taught about 40 - 50 people on ATV's about Tread Lightly that THEY had no clue about, just like alot of of OHV folks. Then this weekend i am going back up there to teach more people to Tread Lightly and at least half of them are going to be your ATV / side by side crowd. Then we are going to go talk to the horse people after that.

So, what are you doing to help the situation out ??????

Well done sir..

This is the beginning of a e-dick contest. Which will solve nothing....

Idk if the fine part would be effective, most would probably never pay. But I see your point. I think the key thing here is finding an effective way to inform everyone that uses the trails. ATV guys aren't really on here reading about all this. We all enjoy the trails, we need to find away to all work together. I would push for this idea again, like you said maybe it will get more attention this time.

Atv guys aren't reading this because all you people do is cuss about them and trash them, we are not welcome in your clubs or at your events so hell no we aren't reading it. I've offered suggestions and I've been on the buggy runs, but I still prefer my atv or side by sides or dirt bikes. You people aren't hearing us or even making an effort to. And if they do ban atvs, what's your excuse gonna be then for shit getting tore up. Who you going to blame then for trashed trails. We won't be there so I guess your group will have to actually look at themselves for once.

Thought about it. I am too old to play reindeer games anymore.

Good luck all.

Nobody is singular in this fight.

I see atv's go around trail plugs BECAUSE THEY ARE SMALLER THAN A RIG and they can. We are all impatient with a trail plug. I have seen 4X4's do the same thing when they can. I have seen 4X4 folks up there drinking on the trail. I can name several on here that say they don't.

This need to remain a "WE" battle to kept the trails open in Uwharrie.

ATV'S drop more trash because they are again SMALLER and cannot carry it maybe, I guarantee that the ATV crowd has some blame, but so do the 4x4 crowd & horse people.. I'll bet that the most folks up there throwing trash out are the younger crowd. Why, they do not have a mentor to educate them on proper trail educate.

So please keep this thread positive

Thank you & have a nice day

You're NOT going to get the 100% support you are looking for on here. You'll get some but there are keyboard commandos that will argue with you no matter what you do. Ask for what you need, go PM with people who offer. Let the loudmouths show their own asses, they'll be seen as just that.
Bull-Mac, put your money where your mouth is. Close it and come help to keep the trails open. PREACH to your ATV buds about what they MAY be doing wrong. You know there are ones who do it so just try to help and not tear down someone else who is.
I actually used to be very involved in SFWDA, Uwharrie, and other OHV interests but got too burned out myself. If you're going to be a moving force in this, you have to have thick skin and be willing to take some abuse and move forward.
You're not going to solve anything online. Get in front of people and put a shovel in their hands. I'll be at some workdays this year, shovel and all.

I will still be at work days, and will still fight the good fight for Uwharrie. Chris and John know where i am going forward.

So lets go to part two since we are on an understanding now, what's the chance of getting a tread lightly initiative pushed for brown mountain, it's not a great system for your crowd, but for mine it's a decent place. The trails all need work bad, and it gets left behind on the initiatives when it's going in a bad direction. A lot of the people I know day they won't ride it because the trail system has eroded so bad it's too dangerous. Part three is, why can't we get these clubs on page with us too.

It really easy, DO IT. Become a master trainer and start teaching. The goal of tread lightly is using the people that use the systems(brown mtn) in your case to teach the other user.

It sounds like in the short term, they need more maintenance (warm bodies, shovels, etc) than they do 'education'. Not that there's anything wrong with teaching folks the right way to do things, but if the trails are in such poor condition that people are afraid to ride them, then a TreadLightly course isn't addressing the problem.

Now, as to where those warm bodies come from... I don't know. Are there organized ATV groups that would be interested in using the area? Maybe they could be recruited to help perform maintenance.

Also, my understanding of the Master Trainer process is that the most difficult part is getting to a class. I heard that the group at Uwharrie last year was the first class they'd ever taught on this side of the country. And that only happened because Scott spearheaded it.

I have been going about educating others on the tread lightly aspect for quite a while now. And especially since I have been getting back to it.

Thats great! Treadlightly.org can help you with some lit..... Run with it. I will say that alot of the people we talked to this weekend said they knew it all about tread lightly and when you dig a little deeper, they learned alot!

Alright ladies and gentleman, I put this out to the ATV communities that I can reach on facebook, Im sure me and Decomp and that crew will all talk about this more in depth the next time we all have a chance to ride and maybe we can all get on the same page and work together to save all of our OHV areas. In the mean time lets stop pointing fingers at each other shouting it was the ATVs, it was the full size units and lets pull it in.
