Lots of interesting news today

"She also said anyone who says she isn't allowed to compete as a woman is transphobic, regardless of whether or not they support her right to transition.

'Trans women are not a threat to women's sport.'"

Said the dude who is winning in women's sports

👍🏻

1 - the fact that there is such thing as a designated "Tesla LGTBQ+ community" - and that it even has a designated President - highlights the problem. You don't get "inclusion" by havin ga seperate "community."
2 - I like how it is never actually statedt hat the layoffs had anythin gto do with their participation in said community.
If they are waxing 10% of the workforce, then if they have any sizeable representation, it is a statistical certainly some % of said community will be laid off. Thats not coincidence, its math.

"By one estimate, researchers said, this supply chain retains 64 cents of every dollar spent on generic drugs."

I'm no drug dealer, but that seems like a lot.

I would bet at this point 75% of Fortune 500 have erg (employee resource groups) like this that include an lgbtq one. A lot of companies also have black, Asian, military vet, women groups and lead by various people.

Yup, and they all waste more time than anything. I am not sure what resource they are supposed to create, other than a new version of the "good ole boy network"

The amount of time wasted on company time for these things is what I don't get. These are social, non-work related functions. (yes, I see the irony as I post on my netterwebz forum, but it is also not officially sanctioned and permitted and glorified)
If you want to have these groups, fine and dandy, but the purpose of the company is not to have these groups, its to provide a service or product.

The argument usually is that there is long-term benefit to the company from the diversity and improved work-life that comes from said social functions. Just like work paying for teams to go off and do a fun activity every once in awhile (which, yes, is increasingly rare these days). The #1 rule of industrial psychology is, "A happy worker is a hard worker." Whether that actually adds anything to the company depends heavily on just wtf the company does.
Problem being that while there is some merit to that, most companies time-horizon for ROI is just not that far out. "change from cultural influence" takes multiple years to happen, yet corporate value is often re-evaluated yearly at most, often quarterly.

Agreed, and a lot of companies are fighting for the same talent and its a tough market, they are trying to do anything they can to ensure they can still attract top talent.

I don't personally care about any of that stuff, but plenty of great employees to do as well.

I'd also have to say that if you have so much extra time to be the President of such an activist group, you may not be giving 100% to your job. Considering Elon Musk is the guy that sleeps on the factory floor, I think that might be big with him... 🙄

Fuck work social functions. I don't want to spend any more time then I have too at work. Gimmie my money so I can go. A paid worker is a happy worker.

This is a very valid point of view. I do like getting the team together for lunches or the occasional social event outside of work. But "mandatory fun" has it's limits.

As for Tesla, I think Elon Musk has made his point very clear. It seems he agrees with you're point of view. Work hard, get paid, go home when work is done, rinse, repeat, the end.

Yea I dont mind grabbing lunch together, and the christmas party always has good food (plus drunk co workers for entertainment), but thats it. There are a select few that I talk to outside of work, very few.

Damn yall working with the wrong people my old job where I hated my bosses I still talked with the field guys all the time. My new Job I haven't meet someone I wouldn't hang out with. One guy puts on a family movie Night once a month during the summer at his farm for everyone with kids, everyone goes and plays golf together. Heck they are shutting down one day to take everyone to top golf.
