I picked this yj up 3 years ago for Christmas for my wife. I worked on it for a little but, between my wife finishing up school, building a new house and finishing up my shop it kind of got pushed to the side. Pulled it into the garage yesterday and decided i am going to get it drivable over the winter to hopefully make it to ure in the spring.
My wife has always wanted her own jeep and i plan to build a jeep that she can drive on the street also.
When i got the jeep it was basicly a stock 91 yj with no drivetrain, no front fenders, ect. Stock axles with about a 4" unknown lift. I have alot of random parts that i have scored deals on over the years that will be going into it.
It needs a good bit of work

Here is what it has done so far.
-2002 model 4.3 vortec with thinned harness, installed with AA mounts

-th 350 trans with AA adapter to toyota t-case
-tacoma e-locker rear with 4.10s

I have a donor front toyota axle that will be providing all the necessary pieces to complete it. Will be a 4cyl third with a v6 4 pinion carrier and a lock rite. Plan to get the front axle built and installed as well as steering done first so it can move off the lift if needed

Brought the front axle housing home today, it has been sitting at work since shortly after i started this project about 3 years ago. .lol.
Stuck it under the jeep for a quick mock up fit. Kind of a sweet little housing, same width as my tacoma rear and offset tubes for higher clearance. Of course staying spring under kind of kills that...lol. Plan on staying spring under, i will try the current springs out but may end up swapping to rancho 44044's on all 4 corners. I also will be pulling off the monster shackles that are currently on it and be replacing them with a set of currie boomerang shackles

Why you want to stay spring under?

Why you want to stay spring under?
Because i want to keep it low, plan on no bigger than 37s and it should have no problem clearing them properly bumped and tube fenders. Plus i will not have to fight axle wrap as much. If anything it may end up linked before it is over with but trying to keep it simple and somewhat budget friendly at the moment

Built the front diff tonight, it is the 4cyl third from my donor stock front axle. Put a v6 carrier in it since it is a 4 pinion carrier and i scored a v6 lock rite dirt cheap.
Comparing the two carriers

Put a factory solid spacer and new pinion bearings in also

The stand is just the flange from a stock housing welded to a bolt. The piece that bolts to the bench has a tube insert welded to it, the wrench is welded to a jamb nut. I have built hundreds of diffs on it and it works great
Also have other plates with the same size bolt welded on them for different diffs such as the tacoma 8.4 and ford 9", very versatile tool

I love this build! I always wanted to do a yj with a elocker Tacoma rear and waggy front since it is an almost bolt in. I think this on 35 to 37's sprung under with waggy springs and tube fenders would make a great dual purpose rig.

I have not really had much time to work on this over the holidays. Did get the third put in the front axle. Removed all the factory flares and inner fender liners.
I have been pondering over brakes but i think i have decided to run ifs hubs with tacoma brakes. This will make my front axle almost 64" wms. I will need to run 1.5" spacers on the rear to match is the only downside.
I really like the simplicity of the tacoma brake setup and easy teardown.

Also found swaped the front shackles out. Found the driver side hanger had been broken off and booger welded back on and some point in the jeeps previous life. I ordered a new set of hangers and plan on moving them further back on the frame in order to get a better front shackle angle.
Hope to work on it some this week and will update with some pictures

I got a little time to work on the jeep today. I cut the stock front shackle mounts off and replaced/relocated them. The shackle angle left alot to be desired plus the fact the driver side hanger was already butchered.

Comparing stock to reversed

Pretty happy with the angle, the driver side limits how far you can go back because of the steering box, i brought it back as far as i could with still being able to get a socket on the box mount
