NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

If anybody gets a small racked buck that they have no intentions of mounting / keeping I’ll buy it off of you and pay shipping. I make dog chew toys out of them.

That's what I use them for too.
 
i took an absolutely awful shot at a 6 pointer late friday night as it was getting dark. hit it in the back left ham. it ran about 15 yards and dropped the arrow. found a ton of blood where it stopped and thought i might have gotten lucky and hit the artery. Went back in the AM and tracked it about 400 yards, decent blood trail. got within 20' of it before i bumped it and it took off running. almost no blood where it was bedded in the creek bottom so im guessing it clotted up and quit bleeding.

heading back out friday night and saturday AM, my son is going to try to get one with the muzzleloader.

I don’t know what’s going on this year. Seems the more I hunt the less I see. Hunted hard this week. Patterns have changed or something. I’d just about tagged out by now the previous 2 years in this location. It’s not just me either. The entire club is buzzing about how little deer they’re seeing. Corn piles going untouched, nothing on game cameras. Weird. No coyotes around either. You see a loner every few months, but we’re pretty good about smoking them. I guess I’ll never be a TV show hunter. Wouldn’t be much to watch.

It's not you man, it's China. They have fleets of fishers and hunters trotting around the globe, snatching everything up for themselves. :D

You gotta just stick with it man. I did like 6 sits and didn’t get a shot. Saturday morning I took my son for his first hunt, it was gusting like 20mph and pouring rain. I showed him where the blind was on our topo map and split up to go to another spot. About 20 minutes later I see his headlamp bobbing around in the Christmas trees no where near the blind. By the time I backtracked, found him, walked him to his blind and got back to where I was going to set up I had about 30 minutes to sun up. I made all kinds of noise one sticking up a tree and getting set in my saddle. About an hour later 6 does came walking up behind me and I got a great shot at one.

Perseverance gets meat in the freezer

I passed on quite a few small bucks early season and never could get all the way to the shot on several does during same time. I had a permit hunt that was a grind, in the right spot at the wrong time. Several cameras told me I should have just hunkered down and do an all day sit but I didn't. Wanted a weekend off of it. Next weekend I'm Taking a good friend then another permit hunt then Thanksgiving. I wanted a small break
 
FIL made me a new ladder stand. Little late, but may stand it up Saturday.

All my hunting friends used to talk about points, spreads, tines , etc.
Then jokingly asked me about mine .... "I eat venison year round while that one deer of yours is gone by Feb."
 
Just got back from Kansas. Shot an 8 pointer. Very slow hunting at first but picked up when temps dropped. Saw an 8 the evening before I shot the 1. Had him at 15 yards but had no shot. Stayed on other side of thick stuff. He had a lot of mass on his horns. Always enjoy going out there. Different than hunting here in VA.

I have decided I absolutely hate my buddies piece of property I hunt. Probably won't if it wasn't close to the house. It's only 23 acres. But is long and narrow. About 1/2 is a field that is as wide as property at one end and goes to a point towards the top. It Is about damn near impossible to slip up to the top with out getting busted doing so. They like to bed on both sides on and off his property and there isn't a way to hide.


But I did see two small bucks this afternoon... oh and it's still bow season couldn't have got a shot off if I wanted to.... I would have busted that 4 points ass if he was 10 yards to the left
