NC4X4 Hunting and Fishing

Met @Scott86MJ for some fishing tackle on my way to hunt this evening and shot this doe. Pretty disappointing season for me but not the worst. Missed TWO good bucks opening week of Archery that have been chip shots for me over the last 27yrs. Watched way too many deer after that. Changed up my pins and a new rest then killed a mediocre buck with my bow on my 4th day in PA. This is the 1st deer I’ve killed in NC this yr. Spent more time in the woods this yr than any other in my life.

At least you finally got one in state. And spending time in the woods is always a win.

FIFY. Sad part is I could’ve done just this over 100 times over the last 100 days. This is the first time I’ve pulled the trigger on one here in almost 4 months. I like being in the woods and watching animals but sitting starts to seem like a waste of time when there’s and endless list of things I could/should be doing. Looking forward to turkey season now where I’ll be more mobile and see much more ground.

Broke ice to Blake's blind this morning. He threw the decoys in the open water he made. Each got a bird and all came in to land in our open patch. First morning they weren't landing everywhere but on us.

Pretty sure @Blake_JK has me hooked and wished I'd done more hunting of any kind for the last 20 plus years.

I can't get my Google pixel to save a file type to load on here. Don't know why.

Imagine three dudes dressed like duck dynasty holding up three wood quackers. ...🦆🦆🦆

@Blake_JK Can you post pictures of the Thanksgiving hunt...I tried and deleted my post because my phone want cooperate.

Shot once, he jumped and ran maybe 20ft and stopped, he couldn't tell where the shit came from and didn't know where to run so I shot again and dropped him. I thought I had missed with the first shot. I was a bit unsteady trying to squat down and prop up on the window frame. Actually hit him both times. The first was a little back and had I not shot again id have had to track him a ways. Second shot was in the boiler room and was in and out. While cleaning him, I found the first bullet underneath the skin a whole foot up from where it looked like it should have exited. Really not sure how it bounced around and got there. Hornady super performance SST .30-06. dang perfect mushroom

Now weigh it and see how much of it's original weight it retained. I found a bullet this year the copper sperated from the lead core but still with both pieces was 80% of original weight

The first deer/buck I killed I was 16. The temp. was 20* frost. I had a shotgun w 00 buckshot. A friend was go too but he told me it was too cold. I was walking down sewer line in Morrisville at the edge of swamp and a saw deer moving around. I saw a huge doe and I was about to shot it, then a saw buck shaking some saplings w its horns and I shot the buck and it ran away. I went to find the buck, I found him dead maybe 60 yrds. from I shot it. I pulled it out of the woods and to sewer line in the sun. I looked at the buck and turned it over no blood in nose, mouth. Rolled it over no blood on the hide wtf. I went to gut it cause the truck was 300 yrds away. When I cut the belly open blood went gushing on the ground and my I cold hands felt like they on fire. I gutted it an washed my hands at the creek. I dragged it to the truck and got went home. Back at home I cut out the lungs, heart and found one 00 buckshot in the heart and one hole in belly.

You know, this year I probably put in the least amount of effort and time I have in 10 years. And I had the best season in those 10 years. Hunted smarter, bur less.

Polar opposite of me. Ended this season today hearing the cherryville shooters from sun up to sun down and only saw a rabbit. Onto goose, squirrel and coyote hunting for me.

THIS - one of my son's friends asked the other day "when we (22 yr old son, Hunter and I) would start planning 2025 Turkey season", and I replied "it started before 2024 was even out"
