Project Piggy Bank - 83 FJ60 Landcruiser

So could I use the 60 yoke on the 60 pinion in the 80 third?

I plan to utilize the 80 caarier in welded form, so I'm not concerned about the axles shaft splines working from the 60.

I am excited about being able to raise the abuse level on my rig!

I think so? Not sure honestly. I'd just pull both thirds and compare.

Edit: I'd go with what Jody said so yes

Axle unloaded and waiting for tear down.

A friend told me stories about a guy who beat the snot out of a stock 80 rear behind a 4.3 on 39 crawlers and never broke. My clapped out I6 will never be able to hurt this thing.

Also, upon further inspection it seems this axle is welded. Looking forward to seeing inside it!

About time for a Barnes order for new pérches, tabs, and axle wrap bar.

The only thing I'm questioning now is the disc brakes and my current master cylinder. According to IH8Mud I can modify it to function properly for disc brakes.

Starts and runs like a dream! My starter was failing. I put new terminals on also. It took a while to narrow it down.

Wheeled some stuff while working on some trails at the SHOP a couple weeks ago.

So what do you do when your rig is working fine???

Well take it apart and wrench for the sake of wrenching!!!

Just brought home my next upgrade: full float disc brake FJ80 rear! Thanks again @Pless

This axle looks very fimiliar. Especially the Body lift pucks for bump stops. Does it look like someone cut open the back of it at some point?

Yes. I'd say it's the same axle. I have not torn it down yet. So what's the deal with it?

Did you cut it open to weld it instead of taking it apart?
no.broke an axle shaft and that was only way to get it out.

What was it under when it broke? I'm thinking that it probably won't break under mine, but if it does it will be chromo time. This will be the last axle for the piggy bank aka Becky.

I'm probably going to run my BTF cover from the 60 welded on. Now you've got me second guessing, I may make it bolt on.

97 fj80 with 39 michelins. Axle should be geared 5.29

Nice dude, just read through the build. I'm picking up a full float fj80 rear for my tacoma as well. Should be a nice match with the fj60 up front

Another 45 minutes today. Little man was too busy with a ratchet and a shovel to join the fun, but at least I had a little help.

I can't believe I built this pile completely with hand tools. Finally put a fitting on an air impact that I got for Christmas...

Anybody need a SOA FJ60 rear w axle wrap mount?..

80 rear is hard to beat!
