Project Racin' Taco (ECORS racer build-up)

Can you get a rear picture of the tcases if it not a problem? I'd like to see how much that 10 degrees raises the the case. Looking to flat belly mine was wondering its worth the extra compared to a normal case.

It is worth it. The only clocking I got was from the Inchworm adapter (that adapts the chaindrive case to the Tacoma trans), which I think was 10*, if I would have gotten a different dual case adapter then I could have clocked it another 10*. I don't think 10* will give you a completely flat belly without pushing the cases up slightly though, it's REALLY close.

Ok thanks, I've been searching and really couldn't find anything on them. And I had already anticipated having to cut the floor. Thanks for the info man, and it's coming along nicely

Hopefully will have it ready to take, not planning to race though. At least not unless someone want's to pay all the fees for me :)

You got people pitting for you? I will be helping to pit for Jay (Redlyner), probably at one of the remote pits, if you need help just let me know.

I will be bringing a slim crew (maybe just 3 of us).. would really appreciate the help. Could definitely use the refuel assistance.

Pretty tight quarters! This is as high as the axle can currently go and would allow for about 3-4" of uptravel, with about a 20" frame height on 37's. I plan to notch the frame slightly to allow more uptravel (panhard bracket hits frame), and I will also have to put a bend or two in the panhard. Getting more uptravel is going to require some oilpan modification, I will probably only be able to get another 1", MAYBE 2". In the below picture there is less than a finger width between the pan and axle...

Started working on the header today, I bought a brand new set of OBX headers for dirt cheap off NC4x4, basically cheap enough I didn't mind cutting them up. The passenger side header fit without modification, but the driver side had to be cut into alot of little pieces. Here is what I have started, the rear cylinder tube will be modified a bit more to fit better into the collector, and the middle will go up and over the rear then back down to the collector.

The exhaust will run back on both sides of the transmission, and join together behind the transfer case crossmember probably.

I LOVE EXHAUST WORK.

IMHO, do yourself a favor and fab the system with v-band clamps at the headers and at the 2-1 merge (budget allowing). Those things are the tits. It would also be most awesome with one of these:

Hope this thing gets finished! I will need a taxi around Johnson Valley :D.

Pic of the front sheetmetal removed. The bars weld to the cab, bars will eventually come forward over the cad, down windshield, and tie into that tube. I am not a big fan of exo cages so this will at least keep it hidden behind the fenders. I just don't have the room inside the cab for an interior cage if I ever plan to wear a helmet...

you going to close in that upper mounting point?

Yea, only after I get both sides done and do a really good suspension cycling to make sure there is no binding.

On a side note, I was having trouble keeping the hood down with all the high speed runs through the basement, so I put on some hood pins to keep it in check:

Still at Tim's shop, he is finishing the front suspension (changing to a 4-link as the panhard bar was going to be too tough to make fit), finishing the ORI strut mounts, and building exhaust headers. There is no room for the exhaust to run back up under the cab, so the fix is going to be running the headers out in front of the engine (plenty of room with the rear mount radiator), mount a turbo, and then run the exhaust straight out the passenger fender. We'll see how that works out, but I scratched my head a bunch to try to figure out how to get the exhaust out the back where it would not interfere with anything, and I just can't find a place other than running it inside the frame rail...

Got the dual cases bolted together. Marlin Crawler 23 spline input on the front case, Marlin Competition 23 spline 4.7 gears in the rear case, TG dual case adapter, TG twin stick on rear case, triple drilled flanges on front and rear. Inchworm Gear front adapter to adapt the crawl box to the Tacoma transmission, clocked up 10 degrees. Gonna be a perfect but tight fit for the front driveshaft, also going to have to trim the floor some because the rear case is touching the floorpan. I'll try and get a pic of it in the truck tomorrow, it's a TOUGH task to install by yourself!!!

You used marlin's gearset with a TG adapter? Everyone has told me this isn't possible. I just snapped my TG 4.70's and am wanting to go with marlin's total spline input gears but have been pricing a new adapter and everything

I don't remember having an issue, but that was back in 2012!

Wow didn't even look at the date haha. I've been told that the pitch of the splines or something is different and that a MC input wont mesh with a TG coupler. Trying to figure out what to do with mine
