Rant... Highpoint Dog Attack

But then again, I'm a cold hearted bastard who has no issues putting his own dogs down...it's an animal that somewhere at some time, somebody decided to domesticate. Coulda been a deer or black bear, but instead we got dogs. I look at dogs like any other animal, and some are more aggressive than others.

My take...any dog in my yard, that isn't mine or one I know extremely well, or is a threat to me in a public place, is a bad dog. And like a person, any unwanted/unwelcome dogs will typically be met with some form of projectile. I have too many of my own dogs and too many small kids around my house to risk it. That's the best way I know how to stop random dog attacks. I don't care what breed it is, if the owner can't control their dog and keep them out of my yard and away from me, that's not my fault.

Did I just make this thread worse???

Nah. I see your point. If a dog is in your yard looking like he is up to no good then there is nothing wrong with protecting yourself and your family.

The blame would fall on the shoulders of the irresponsible owner of that rouge dog.

Would you eat one like a deer? I like hot dogs.. :D

I feel about the same as UTF... I don't currently own a dog, but my room mate has a female we leave on the porch during the day while we are gone sometimes (She is tied up and has about 50 foot of rope, which stops a long way before the road or any nieghbors yards. This past week I have came home and there are other dogs just roaming around our yard. I usually just run them off.

The other day I came home and Brittany had let both damn strays in the house, got them a bowl of food and water and was bitching because I wanted to throw them out. We live on a busy highway (HWY 158) and she was worried they would get run over... I wasn't. I am worried that because she was so nice (Dumb) they will continue to come back.

As far as Jeffs post... I would try it once and then make my judgement lol.

Any dog has the potential to bite and cause harm...they're animals. Larger dogs obviously cause more damage when they bite. My vet told me that he sees more issues with goldens and dalmations as people assume them to all be nice dogs. ALL animals should be watched around children period.

All loose running dogs are not a threat, some undoubtedly are pets and good behaving dogs that may have escaped from their homes for many reasons, going after stray dogs in heat, thunderstorms, falling trees knocking fences down (happened to my dogs), digging under the fence, broken leashes collars, etc. I would hope you would try to determine if the dog was friendly before just shooting it because it was on your property. It may just be great dog that's lost or loose accidently and has a home and family, children that love it and would be very upset for it to be killed just for being loose. I too would not hesitate to shoot a menacing dog if it was threatening/attacking me, my dogs or others If I had to. I had 2 dogs occasionally roaming our neighborhood a few months ago one a curly haired labradoodle looking one and the other a large Shehperd/Yellow lab mix who was pooping in my yard repeatedly. I approached it in my front yard and held out my hand talking to him and he growled, put up his hackles and held his ground, not good. Having been attacked/bitten and or fought off dogs more than a few times doing Land Surveying work and Cable TV I was not scared or impressed by his aggressive behavior and moved closer. He turned sideways but did not back off and continued to growl and show his teeth. He finally turned and stiffly walked off so I followed him and the other dog to the owners home through the woods a bit from our neighborhood where the big dog again became aggressive. I went home and drove to the house a few hours later as nobody was home when I walked there. The big dog about jumped on my truck as I pulled up and until the owner came out from both dogs barking. I told him about the dog growling at me in MY yard and pooping and it better not happen again. I told him I'm a dog owner/lover but I would not hesitate to shoot the dog if it threatens me, my neighbors or our dogs and he agreed he wouldn't blame me and would do the same in that situation. He was very sorry it had happened and promised to keep them from roaming anymore.

Your still not seeing what I'm saying. I'm drawing the relationship between the two.

In the wrong hands either of the two can be extremely dangerous

A gun requires a human to make it function, for good or bad purposes. A dog, can be good or bad without human interaction. A dog can be used by good or bad people, and still turn out bad. A gun in the hands of a good person is a good gun. a gun in the hands of a bad person is a bad gun.

if you would like to draw lines tying guns and dogs together, then i suppose a dog deadlier than rifles should be regulated and licensed to those who can pass a background check.

i dont think this is true. Feral dogs are a problem. like the link i posted to the feral chihuahuas in arizona. Once a dog becomes undomesticated it is not longer pet material. The only thing defining safe or dangerous at that point is its fight or flight response.

If she fed them, they will be coming back regularly. I think you are going to have a hard time getting them to stay away now.

Reid, You did read " ALL and SOME" in my quote right? Escaped pet dogs are not instantly feral ones once unconfined, they are escaped pets that MAY become feral/wild if not returned home. Nine times out of ten a feral/wild dog will run from people on sight. Pets may or may not run from them and it's usually easy to identify a wild, feral dog from a healthy/friendly pet dog from it's appearance and behavior. Feral dogs usually have dirty matted coats, are thin w ribs and hips showing and act nervous and skittish, pet dogs USUALLY are friendly and approachable, have shiny coats and look well fed.

You ever been to China on a business trip??? I'd gladly eat a dog burger, dog kabob, etc over some of the stuff they serve there.
Russia, estonia, Australia and Siberia. No China yet, I am looking towards India soon Maybe though..

And that guy walking down the street doesn't want to abduct the little girl next door either. I see your point, I'm just a bit more paranoid than most. First time...the dog usually gets a paint ball. Second time...usually bird shot. Third time is usually th final strike...if I know the dog, I'll hit them with a blunt tip arrow...then the 4th time they go down.

Literally had a pigeon served to me that had barely been seered. Japanese you can get served live squid/octopus...whichever, it's gross. And given the cultures...you have to eat this mess.

I would imagine the first time (paintball ) would discourage most dogs from returning again !

And also send the message to owner they were unwelcome.

......so their milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard? might take alot of paintballs or worse to keep'em away. Every time I've been shot by a paintball or 20 I've hauled ass faster than I thought I could move, away or out of range from the shooter, but I'm not a dog and potentially meeting some horny females was never involved so my response may be different than the dogs :D

^^^haha...pretty much. And usually, all it takes is one paintball, but there's generally 2 dogs a year that just can't take a hint.

well this sure turned to shit.i guess the bottom line is the folks that own a pit that know that it will never attack anyone doesn't need to worry about a thing. it's the people that know that their dog will attack their kids and kill them but still keep it around till it happens are the ones fucking it up for everybody else.

Next time I will put them in the jeep and drop them off a few miles away.
If they still come back then I make no promises of what happens.

Page 5 it gets funny!

Clearly you don't have the mental capacity to connect the dots. Let me break it down a tad bit more for your challenged brain

The battle with gun laws is due to the acts of irresponsible people. These are the people who use guns in a crime.

Responsible gun owners account for a very small percentage of gun related situations.

Are you connecting the dots now?

Let me break down even further for you since your CLEARLY missing a chromosome somewhere in your body

Irresponsible pet owners are the reason you have so many dog bite situations. A majority of responsible dog owners never put their dogs in situations to fail

Do you understand now? Or do I need to color pictures in a book for you to comprehend

If an irresponsible person kills another person w/ a gun it is possible they will get life in prison or even the death penalty. Correct?
If they would change the laws that if a person owning a dog (any dog) that bites and kills a human they would get life or even the death penalty for it would you still own a Pit Bull?

Honestly yes. I have a balanced dog. A loving dog, and dog that is always under my control. I trust both my golden retriever and my apbt with my life. At the same time I would never put either of them in a position to fail
