Ford's been making 8 on 170 mm trucks for ten years.
Has anybody else switched?
I thought GM trucks went metric 2011-ish.

I'll keep my eye on this thread. I have seen 6Ds listed for $300-$600 on car-parts.com or whatnot and had me on the fence about scooping some up but I am not in that territory of mods yet. I try to keep up with the thread on pirate about 05+ SD 60s and saw that these axles will take shafts from the f450s and f550s
1550 joints BTW
My 05 srw super duty front had a 10in ring gear, they have the size in mm cast into the chunk. Iirc it is 256mm.I thought only the super 60 (10" ring gear) from the f450/f550s can use those 1550 ujoints? And the inner Cs and Knuckles are much larger than the regular 05-up SD 60? I know the unit bearings are different

Fawk no! Keep hoarding the small u-joint 78-79 dana 60sSo does all this mean I need to start hoardin up all the cheap-ish late model 60's I can find??
Theres not enuf of those around to hoard.Fawk no! Keep hoarding the small u-joint 78-79 dana 60s
This is what I am finding on pirate:
(replacement axle shafts, ford oem)
2005-13 Ford F250 Super Duty Truck excluding Wide Track Axle Ford OEM FC3Z-3220-A, FC3Z-3220-B

Sounds like there may also have to be some juggling of the steering but one guy has ordered that 1550 shafts and will compare them to his 05+SD 60 shafts when he gets a chance

Sounds like a personal problem to me!Theres not enuf of those around to hoard.
Perhaps, but at $1200-$1500 per axle I'm out.Sounds like a personal problem to me!
I agree but not until all the kingpin and early BJ axles are used up.The only problem I see is that when they are the only choice psd cases will be boat anchors.Ive passed on several in the 3-400 range in the past.Might need to start rethinking that.I honestly think they're 'the wave of the future'. Cheaper, stronger, newer. We're working on swap kits for 60-70's trucks. There are a few out there for 80-96 fords that are in the $2500-4000 range. 'Toughest' thing about it seems to be the RA's.

from what I have seen, all the 05+ axles have the larger knuckles.
The best thing about them, is to run super beef stubs:
Welp you sir have sealed the deal for me im gonna have to find a set of 05 up axlesfrom what I have seen, all the 05+ axles have the larger knuckles.

Let me say that those shafts aren't cheap. But if you want ultimate beef, those stubs with rockwell rcv bells and 40/47 spline shafts will bring it.Welp you sir have sealed the deal for me im gonna have to find a set of 05 up axles

Ya I don't need that beefy but it looks like they are stronger stock then a king pin axleLet me say that those shafts aren't cheap. But if you want ultimate beef, those stubs with rockwell rcv bells and 40/47 spline shafts will bring it.
Ball joints are fine. I've seen king pins break. Besides the ball joints are designed for several ton trucks hauling loads. A 3500 lb jeep isn't gonna kill them fastIf youre afriad of balljoints, reid makes aftermarket versions with kingpins
I agree. But hate to break it to ppl that think they have a 3500lb 1 ton jeep, they're likely off by a half ton.Ball joints are fine. I've seen king pins break. Besides the ball joints are designed for several ton trucks hauling loads. A 3500 lb jeep isn't gonna kill them fast

My xj is around 4000 (I think haven't had it on a scale in a while) I'd like to have a rig that is mostly tube hope to have around the same weight as my Jeep now, minus wheels tires and axles I realize that will be probably 1000-1500 lbsI agree.
