The Never Tight TJ Build

Congrats. Good to hear. Was my drive shaft RLF’s first job?!? Oh and my shock mount K^2’s last job?

You’ve done great work on the WJ ( sorry I sold it) and look forward to seeing your work on the red raisin.

what’s this about a shiny black shaft? What kind of business is this exactly?

should I start a go fund me for the beer fridge?

Congrats dude can’t wait to see the Jeep on tons. You’ll prob have yours done before I d got mine done, lol.

Thanks, man. It's possible but I doubt I'll have the tons in before the end of the year. They're more just so when ever I kerplode the 44's I'll have the replacements here already. Really need to build an axle stand for storing axles.

What was the fee we worked out for the marketing and research for this name? Wasn’t it an ownership stake in the business? :D

Part ownership means investment too right:D

Na Rod's was the first under RLF. You don't like black shafts? I don't think we can wheel together then. I also would not oppose a beer fridge fund.

Went camping (Yup camping) at AOP couple weeks ago, probably the roughest weekend ever for our crew of misfits. Couple 9" shafts @77GreenMachine o_O Radiator and rear gear set on mine :shaking: @D2320M rig decided to eat it's optispark. Phillip decided to do a roll cage test on @cufor98 rig. Plus we determined @rcalexander105 likes to drive on his driveshafts :flipoff2:

The radiator was a crazy failure, some how the lower bolts checked out (name of the thread holds true) and when I dropped off the ledge on GWT it sent the radiator into the fan.

After we got back to camp when the 44 decided it didn't want all the teeth on the ring gear anymore we did what anyone would do at 3 in the afternoon on a saturday.

Anyways on to some build updates. Got home and ordered a new set of gears for the rear. They lasted right a year (15 or so wheelings trips) and have been beat on hard with little to no care for their well being. Also after consulting the grand master @Jody Treadway for some knowledge on the failure he let me know my set up was a bit shallow  Still need to toss the new set in but there's 4 other shop projects in front of my Jeep.

That being said I went ahead a started preparing for the winter when this turd muffin should finally get a nice little make over. Wanting to build a basic sub-frame to go to a smooth flat belly and be able to run triangulated lowers on both ends and 4 link the front. Probably run Fox 2.0 coilovers up front and air shocks in the rear because I'm cheap and the only time the Jeep goes "fast" is on the trailer.

Cheapest part of stage this is a dumb hobby and how to dump thousands of dollars in a land boat.

99-06? AAM 10.5 (14 Bolt) The camping stuff still in the bed kinda gives a clue of how quickly I nabbed a set of tons :D

Im going to keep any eye on this, as I need to build a new subframe for mine as well. I know you said winter, which is likely sooner than i will get around to it. I have also thought of going SD front, vs cleaning all the brackets off my current 60.

@D2320M, Im sure you have replaced the optispark, but there is a way to convert it to coil-on-plug and eliminate the Optijunk.

Maybe cryo the new gear set? Can't hurt.

Meh, not worth it for as long as I plan to run them. The gears that were in it were pure chinesum. No marking on the box what so ever and had the Hong Kong stank. Surprising they made it this long if you'd seen how they were treated.

Hoping to get it in during the winter but I it'll be by spring. Hell knowing me it's likely to be done before winter. If you want a 99-04 60 I have one that's had all the brackets cut off and casting trimmed.

And yeah his optispark was fubar. The rotor some how got into cap which sent trash up the vacuum line and at one point it had pulled mud/water in. Got it back running last night and seems to be good, was a bit shocked at how quickly it started.

To answer the question though you can convert it but it basically converts you to a LS harness and management system from what I found and at that point why not go LS. You could get a Holley efi kit for the same price you could a coil pack conversion.

It was definitely one hellava trip!! I ate so much pork and beef and drank enough beer to get a case of the gout in my foot! First time that has happened and it pretty much sums up the trip!:beer: And @Chris_Keziah , you’re absolutely right about no better crew to have around when shit goes down!!

Oh yeah @Joe J. ....#BMFL!!!:D

HOLE.E.CHIT!! No bullshit...I legit got gout as well over the next few days and was wondering wtf was going on (thought I was just getting old as it runs in my family). We (my wife and I) started piecing it together and said it had to be all the salt from the pork and the beer just dehydrated me. First time it has happened to me as well...needless to say that shit hurts!

Can't believe none of us had the meat sweats going on as well (it was prob just disguised in the heat).

Next time, in the words of Phillip..."ya gotta get a water in there b/t beers...remember, we talked about this, Nakoma...".

...watch out for 'em

I saw your ad, and had to fight the itch. If I swap axles itll be to a 05+.

Haha, I didnt say that the conversion was cheap or worth it.... but there is a way, if you really wanted to keep the LT1.

Get some of the revolution gears like I did. They are Circle K stuff not chinesieum. Good prices too.

Yeah I was in a complete fuzz for a few days.

Long time no update, the more and more I work on other peoples stuff the more my junk gets neglected. It's basically been untouched since I changed the rear ring and pinion out. Did ghetto fix the leaks on the power steering resi, lets just say jb weld was involved but it doesn't leak any more.

Past weekend not 15 ft into the second trail the cross pin decided to check out on me :shaking: At least my dad got to drive it through the Honey Hole before it broke. It may have been on the limiter when I broke it

Tried to weld it but couldn't really weld the passenger side back solid due to the ring gear being in the way.

On the 2nd or so send the passenger side weld broke which basically let go. I could go back and re-weld it or put a spool but I despise these rcvs so much I'm selling the axle as is. :D

Which means as soon as I get room in the shop here in a few weeks it'll be One Ton time finally. I'm not going to be like other build threads around here and post a bunch of pics of cad or shit I'm going to buy because I don't have time for that. However my basic bitch TJ plans are as follows:

  • 05 SD 60 Front (Spool, 5.38s, Stock shafts for now, has 1480 shafts may nab the 1550 shafts but we'll see.)
  • 4 link front, 14" 2.0 Radflo Coilovers (not sure how well it will package but guess I'll find out) cheap poly bumps and limit straps
  • 99-06 AAM 10.5 Rear (Spool/welded/Detroit (yo @D2320M you know you want to sell me the Detroit out of that 14b)) TMR shave
  • 4 link rear, similar to what I'm running now just going to smooth the belly and triangulate the lowers some, 16" 2.0 Radflo air shocks, cheap poly bumps and limit straps
  • Wheelbase Viagra :D from 106" to 113-116"
  • SMOOTH Belly, tired of hanging up on my link mounts. Going to weld weld some 2x2x.188 to the bottom of the frame and run 1.75x.188 dom across for the lower link mounts. Trans is already on it's on mount but it'll have to be redo since it's a Savvy
  • Front frame chop, still undecided on how but I'm probably going to cut the frame at the first tub body mount, drink a Busch Latte and throw some tube and hot welding wire at it :smokin:
  • 17" Raceline's and 40" sticky Treps (I would go 42 and will eventually but not enough horsepressures or chromoly in the planed driveline to push them)

  • 17" Raceline's and 40" sticky Treps (I would go 42 and will eventually but not enough horsepressures or chromoly in the planed driveline to push them)
All my frans going to buggies, juggies, etc. I taint gon' have nobody to ride w/ shortly.

Yall foolz gotz mo' benjies than me
