I'll have to agree on the stacks, but disagree on the Mud Grapplers. If you run them expecting them to be a bogger, of course you will be disappointed, but they suited me well, they did great on the sand, good out around here on the farm and mild trails, deep water crossings, and a little mud, besides that they were smooth as glass up to 80mph, they were on a weekend driver, not a daily or trail rig. They were also the cheapest 38" tire available at the time I was looking by a longshot, which is why I took a chance on them even after all of the negatives I had "heard", after that I would buy them again. As far as the noise, yes they were loud, but the truck was also fully sound deadened so they were barely audible with the windows rolled up, besides that they were much less annoying than the X-Terrains I had before, they weren't as loud, but the pitch was more high pitched.I actually hate stacks too....that being said, I have them on my old K30. Everybody else may like them, but until you've owned them...you don't know how much they suck! They blow soot everywhere (can't start my truck with the door open or window down, cant sit on the tool box or tail gate, etc) , they're loud, and stuff in the bed of the truck will melt to them in a heart beat! The reason I have them is there simply wasn't room under the truck for a 4" exhaust pipe as it was never meant to have a Cummins in it Sooner than later, I'll be running the exhaust down the left side of the truck and doing away with the stacks.
I HATE Nitto Mud Grapplers. I think they suck as much as Thornbirds, except they're louder. WAY louder.
Since we are on the topic....
Diesel ownership morphing into the new "ricer" type. Just like with sport compacts, the original few started out with meaningful builds and modifications.... fast forward a few years and it's a washed out fad with everyone slapping on every cheesy modification they can to be the next big thing.
and the wide towing mirrors??
They were considerably worse than my mud grapplers, volume was not so much the problem as the frequency. The high pitched whine of the X-terrains gave me headaches, whereas the low pitch roar of the mud grapplers was very tolerable. I should note though that this was on two different trucks, although both 2500HDs.Oh...also,
Were the Xterrains really that bad? I had one of the last sets of 40x13.50-17s NTW had. I absolutely loved them! Then again, I only got to put about 15k miles on them before someone decided to shank one of them. I guess they could get loud once they wear down or get chopped at all, but mine were very quiet...probably the quietest tire I ever had on the old M1008. I know the 11.00R-16s are loud, but they have some really big, blocky, tread too and they wear horribly. I have to rotate them twice to changing the oil once.
Maybe I didn't notice the whine of the tires over the whine of the 4 angry squirrels powering the 22re...They were considerably worse than my mud grapplers, volume was not so much the problem as the frequency. Yea, see that was the opposite with my X-Terrains. I figured on a straight piped diesel, what would it matter, no way I would hear it over my exhaust, but it became deafening on my 2-3hr commute to Raleigh, swapped the X-Terrains out after about 10k mi to some ATs, much better.Maybe I didn't notice the whine of the tires over the whine of the 4 angry squirrels powering the 22re...
I've always called it and heard it called a Cali lift. They are all over socal, prerunner wannabes.
