Turbo Solid Axle Tacoma Build

You going to do meth injection to cut air intake temps down?

Been tossing that idea around. I can't really figure out a good spot to mount an intercooler so if I want to run more than 5psi I'm going to have to do something

No room in front of the rad to squeeze one in?

I have room for a small one, the issue is getting the charge piping back through the core support. Most go through under the headlights which is fine for the pass side but on the driver's side the orbital is mounted to the frame right there and there's no way to get a pipe through there. I can't do a same side inlet/outlet because I think the tire would contact at full stuff and full lock to the driver's side. I could run a small front mount in a top mount configuration but I'm just going to get it running before I make that decision.

So have you cranked the whisling squrril?

Haha not yet. I've been out of town since Thursday. Still have to build exhaust, swap fuel pumps, run the vacuum lines, build my charge piping, wire up my gauges, and have a crack in my fuel cell repaired since I'll have the pump out of it anyways.

Nice build, can I see some shots of your full hydro/ leaf spring set-up. I am looking at doing a similar setup.

Thanks bud! Yeah, no problem. I'll try and grab some for you tomorrow.

Awesome looking work bud! I have a small stock intercooler off of my focus st laying around. Only bad thing is it has plastic end tanks, your welcome to it if you want to try it out.

Have a pic and some dimensions?

Hey man. I have a sprayer for an intercooler if your interested. It runs off your windshield wiper sprayer, I'm not going to use it cause I'm running propane, so no need for intercooler.

It came off a Subaru sti. It cools the intercooler. I know you are still running low boost so it might not be helpful

Intercooler size is 37"x6 1/2"x 3 1/2"

That's pretty cool but all my windshield washer stuff is gone.

Intercooler size is 37"x6 1/2"x 3 1/2"

Perfect shape for up front but about 10" too long. I'll measure to double check

Knocked the fuel pump out tonight.

Got started on the downpipe today. I had 4" to make a 90* bend with a 3" pipe and we actually did it with a little room to spare. Also cut two 45's and two more 90's for the 1.75" wastegate pipe.

Well hell...I forgot to check back and now that I do you've already got the turbo in. Good work. As far as cooling/intercooling goes...I wouldn't worry about it until you get some time on it. The problem with an intercooler on our rigs is this...you're not moving fast enough. Water sprayers might work, but that's just a lot of work and extra crap on a trail rig. From my experience and talking to quite a few others with turbo'd trail rigs I think you'll be ok without anything extra. Now of course if you're on a hill that requires several full throttle attempts like the last time at the Flats then you'll probably get into some power loss and things like spark knock and what not, but I think that is bearable on a trail rig. After all...we aren't looking for max power numbers or low E/T's...we just need that little extra oomph every now and then.

Yeah I'm just going to get it together and see where it's at. I plan on running nothing but 93 to help with knock so I guess I'll just bump the boost up until I get a good afr at WOT and can reliably run with minimal pinging.

Headed up to @catfishblues shop in a bit to fix my fuel cell and get the charge piping welded up. Then a few odd and end things and I might be able to fire it up today or tomorrow!

Charge pipe is done. Mark even polished it up for me!
