What have you done to your rig today?

It’s crazy how much work the cross member between the engine mounts is doing. I had to pull the frame together to reattach it.
(Also crazy how different these two pictures are between my two different iPhones)

Water pump, tensioner, idler, belt and coolant flush on the TJ.

Then hooked to the goose to move some equipment and it was dragging pretty bad. One set of shoes came apart completely and jammed up inside the drum. Found another one with at least one pad rattling around. Guess I’m doing brakes and bearings in the next few weeks.

If you snoop around you can typically find loaded backing plates for a couple dollars more than just a set of shoes. 4 bolts and two wires connections and you’ve got a whole new setup.

8 bolts and 2 wires on these big bastards but yeah. That’s the plan.
 
More work on the loaner car.
E36 bmws have a few known issues.. all of which this car has (the broken antenna and hvac controls being a few).
The glove box was designed poorly, which will sag after a while. Fixed that

The adjustable seats have bushings either side of the threaded guide that wear out over time making the chair rock back and forth. Cleaning all the crap out took the longest. Took about 4 hours

Last item I tackled was the digital read out in the lower part of the speedo. Those bulbs go out faster than the rest and they’ve been burnt out for years.
Replaced the bulbs in that as well.

Little more, hoping to swing the engine and trans out and maybe have the cab pulled by this weekend. The core support fought me every step of the way and took a pound of flesh between my knuckles and forearms with it before it came off.

Anyone got any recommendations for frame paint? I've been throwing around ideas, torn between Chassis Saver or Rustoleum implement paint. Someone told be POR15 is starting to get to be the end-all-be-all of frame paints again, anybody used it recently?
 
When I built the frame for my Tacoma from the cab back I used this stuff: 12 Oz Krylon 9240 Rust Tough Zinc Rich Spray Primer | Primer, Rust Preventative Enamel, Spray Paint | Paint Supply
That stuffs my go to primer, been happy with it! You can usually find it at O'Riley's. I then foam brushed some flat black tractor paint from ACE hardware over it. I have been happy with it, I did that 2 yrs ago and it's been holding up great! You have to watch out with that zinc rich primer if you have to weld near it, make sure you get it all off or have a fan near by sucking the fumes away or you will get sick, I did that to myself. Good thing I'm a safety manager LOL
 
Removed the D44 and started the one ton swap

Trash wilwood master cylinder wouldn’t hold pressure on the front brakes, got a 69 corvette master with a new proportioning valve and redid the front brake lines to have more give so I could work on it easier. Waiting on an adapter for a pressure bleeder.

Those wilwoods are made of the weakest cast aluminum known to man, and there was a burr in the bore that cut a seal failing the front brakes and spurting fluid into the space between the booster that I couldn’t see until I pulled the master

Not today, but led up to today ....
Last week I took it to the car wash. Longest trip in it in 4+ years ( since I got Covid ). About 9 miles.
Went to Shine-whatever in Stanleyville.
The guy looked at and reprogrammed the wash cycle .... took me twice as long to get through it as normal, but came out purdy.
And yes, the 2-piece removable hardtop leaked like a sieve and I got just as wet as the outside did.

Been driving everywhere I've been going when alone ..... couple more weeks and the top comes off!
