What have you done to your rig today?

Washed it, adjusted tire pressure and put some stuff in it to go tow a camper back from SC tomorrow For my SIL.

Photographed it. Soon enough I will be healthy and hopefully wealthy enough to drive it through the yard

I have been chasing an intermittent short in the electric brakes on one of my trailers. Sometimes it’s fine, sometimes it shows a ā€œSHā€ code on the controller and brakes don’t actuate.

3 days I have been looking for it. I fixed several other little things I found but still had the problem. Started inside the drums. Measured the resistance in the magnets, was fine. Went ahead and packed all 4 bearings while I was in there. Adjusted shoes. Repaired a few places in the wiring I found that I knew wasn’t the problem but for posterity I fixed them.

Found the 7blade connector was a little corroded inside with some rust chunks rattling around in it. Maybe the rust was shorting the brake power, I mean it is on the bottom. Nope 🤨 but new connector anyway.

Finally, I decided to just replace the blue brake wire front to back.

It runs down the driver side and then through the axle to the passenger side. Yep, I found it. Mid way through the axle the wire was melted through and just enough to short intermittently.

Who would think a wire riding in a steel tube protected from anything would short…. I guess when the trailer was manufactured, the wire was probably damaged pulling it through the axle and it took 20 years to finally arc through 🤯

Brakes all fine now.

Anyway, found the leak on the ā€œgutter tireā€ right rear….sidewall šŸ™„ so found a used matching Kenda Road Star Karrier on eBay and have it coming.

Did the yearly used oil and diesel treatment and I guess the ole girl will see another 20 years of service.

Prepped the YJ and got it back together with the new front driveshaft then dragged the old car hauler out of the weeds. New paint, lights, wiring, greased, wheels and tires. Still want to build some drive over fenders for it and some ramps. The old ones have been missing for as long as I can remember.

I think I still have two GM truck fan shrouds if you needed to cut one up. Not sure what your plans are with that.

Reinstalled my winch and ripped the stereo out of the Tacoma to be replaced with a switch panel and I may move my EQ to the dash.

I put this hyd. oil cooler on the front and I hate it there. Thinking of moving to the inside and ducting the exhaust out the rear side where the window used to be.

Well this plan changed and I have since mounted the switches to the dash, and replaced the now unused elocker switch with my winch switch. I just need to clean up the wiring now. So I can now use a remote or the in cab switch. I can also use them both at the same time, so interested to hear others thoughts on this, if I hit winch out on the controller, and winch in on the dash switch in the opposite direction, do you think I will tear the space time continuum and we will jump time lines??

I'll probably toss the now disconnected stereo back in it for now so I don't have a gapeing hole in the dash. Im gutting the interior after the GTG to install an internal cage, so that will be a future me problem.
