Who drinks their coffee black?

A hit of Baileys Irish cream (non- alcoholic) and smidge of sugar! I’m good to go! I occasionally drink it black with just sugar but my pallet don’t like it as much...

I've felt for a while now, that I needed to give up dairy completely.

I've cut sugar out, but dairy has been tough. Can't really NOT put creamer/milk in my coffee. But after reading this:

This woman once told me that if you drink your coffee black for 30 days, you won't go back to drinking it any other way.

Decided that I needed to nut-up and just do it. So on the 25th decided I'd just pour my regular coffee (dunkin donuts ground) and nothing else. Didn't take 30 days. By day 5 I was good to go. But those first few days were ROUGH!!!!

Day 1: Shit was bitter as hell ......I thought: "Maybe I'm using too much coffee"
Day 2: Didn't fill the basket to the brim, and it was less bitter. Still tasted like shit. Ordered some S&D ground coffee
Day 3: Still sucks. S&D came in
Day 4: S&D is MUUUUCH BETTER!!! but still....maybe it's my coffee maker?!?! I mean when I cleaned it last month I nearly puked at what came out of the bottom(back) of the maker itself (typical Mr Coffee)

That was still in the back of my mind

Spoke to my boss who is a black coffee drinker. Thinking that he LOVES good bourbon and interesting wine...maybe he's also a coffee connoisseur....and WOW, was he! Apparently it was a nerd hobby (his words) of his. He had done research on how to get the best taste and how soon after roasting the beans needed to be ground, and how you're supposed to use a BURR grinder and not a pulverize....etc Anyway, he recommended a coffee maker, and grinding my own beans as opposed to buying ground beans. I HAD a grinder, but it was an el cheapo and had el die'ode on me...so needed one anyway.

Both came in yesterday.

I like that coffee pot, and I agree on the grinding your own beans instead of ore ground after years of store ground crap I’ve roasted my own also and can’t tell much diff then bags of pre roasted whole beans, I get the 8oclock Columbia’s roast beans and use a old grinder now.
Black coffee is bitter to me as well but I’ve found that my pallet doesn’t like a lot of things that are bold or bitter, for example my woman drinks bolder beer than I do I can not drink a porter, ipa, stout... I’m a wheat ale kinda guy and straight bourbon strictly, same goes with coffee I suppose black coffee leaves a awful taste in my mouth and I hate it to the point I’ll not even drink it half a cup.
I’ll be going to get a new coffee maker soon bc the one I have is a cheopo imitation kuerig that may be part of the problem with bad after taste but I doubt it, I truly just think it’s my tatse buds or I may just be a sissy is what she tells me about my beer. Lol I’ve noticed over the years folks that drink dark beer also enjoy dark coffee so I think it may go hand in hand?

I have that same grinder, sitting on the shelf in almost perfect condition, that I haven't used in a looong time. It's yours if you want to send that one back.

Also, coffee is still black if you add some sugar to take the edge off. This is about enjoying good coffee that tastes good black, so add some sugar if it needs sugar.

I hate an IPA more than NWA hates cops. And prefer straight (GOOD) bourbon as well. Hmmmm

I won't use a keurig type machine. For the same reason I thoroughly clean my coffee machine monthly (missed a month, and that.s when I got grossed out) If you knew what was growing in the bowels of that machine where the water/moisture gathers in the dark for days....well...lets just say youtube search "Keurig bacteria/mold" and be ready to smash yours.

There's a lot of theory about front-of-pallet vs back-of-pallet people (taste preferences, etc), and the back of pallet people are probably the ones you've noticed.

Well there's your problem...you're missing out on the Keurig mold flavoring that makes black coffee palletable. I kid though, once a month my Keurig gets a good distilled white vinegar cleanse. 3 full tanks of vinegar run through, and roughly 10 tanks of hot water run through after each vinegar tank. I'd also note though, if that mold bugs you, I'd only drink bottled water or freshly uncorked bottle when in a public eatery.

Beer solves this

One of the reasons I stopped using mine. I thought about the 1 year or more of time that I had used it and never been cleaned. Haven't used our keurig in over 3 months.
