Who's reading what??

Honest question: When/how do yall find time to read? Obviously I spend quite a bit of time on the netterwebz reading, but sitting at a computer all day for work makes that easy. To actually pick up a book or kindle and read for more than 30 seconds seems impossible to me.
I try to get in bed around 930 and read until 1015/1030. We started watching Billions though and my reading time has somehow been slipping...

Yup, I know him personally through a friend. Wife and I went out to his house a few years ago to shoot and hang out. Good dude for sure. Also know the dude that was used as Lee Harden for the book covers.

Going Home is up to book 10 I think. If you liked Going Home, start reading Charlie's Requiem. Going Home was from a survivalist standpoint. Charlie's Requiem is not. Different perspectives. Written by the same author + another. Ties into the Going Home series but is great as a standalone series( 5 books so far).

'Patriots' by James Wesley Rawles highlights hyper inflation and the collapse of the dollar. It's heavily focused on gear/equipment and tactics which can be tedious but it has a good storyline too it. I haven't read anymore of his books but want to pick up the next few.
Engineering Home is book 11. It came out in 2022. It was great, just like all the previous books.

I read Patriots... and I'm trying to recall the other one of his I read as well.

Good stuff. I'm an avid subscriber to the SurvivalBlog... I even submitted an article a few years back on USMC Survival School that he posted.

Need to check out Monster Hunter Series. I've heard good things about it.

Right now, I've been crushing survival/CME/EMP/prepper fiction.

In no particular order

"Catalyst Series" 4 books
"Trackers" 4 books
"New Frontier" sequel of Trackers: 4 books

New book in the "Going Home" series drops in November.

After I finish the 4th book of the Catalyst series, I'm going to start "One Second After"

I never could get into that one. Which is a shame, cause it's pretty much famous.

But I grew up on the 80's cheesy survival books. Deathlands and Survivalist series comes to mind.

They were like 80's movies, outlandish as hell but immense fun for a 10 year old to read.

Started reading "The Traditional Bowyers Bible". Do I have a traditional bow? No. Will I ever build one? Probably not. But it's a good read nonetheless.

Just picked this up, and met the author. Not everyday you meet a WWII B17 radio man.

This is next. A Korea vet, and B52 pilot.

I'm currently reading Red Rising by Pierce Brown. I'm about to start Book 6. It's along the lines of Game of Thrones and Hunger Games, but better.

The character motivations are very realistic and as you get deeper into the plot, it blows your mind on what is really at play.

Think I'll put that on my list.

I just finished "Sink the Haguroi" which was pretty good. Now I'm reading these two. Been on a John Winton kick lately. Love WWII naval history, and always looking for a new book.

Fantastic series. I still need to pick up and read the latest.

I started this:

Amazon product ASIN B07L3DJNF5
And it's a perfect example of how I don't understand people.

Almost 6,000 reviews at 4.7/5 star rating. Insanely popular, 10 book series.

And the writing is horrific. We're talking splitting points of view in the same paragraph. Over and over and over. Sometimes you get a point of view for two sentences sandwiched between the main characters points of view.

I try not to be a snob and call out books for sucking. Because I understand the fortitude and cojones to write something and share it with others. There is something very intimate about your creation, and sharing it with others(especially your first) is like sending nudie pics to your grandma and her friends and WANTING them to judge you. It's a terrifying experience.

But dang, why all the love for this book? I'm hoping it gets better.... I remember reading the first Jack Reacher novel and being super unimpressed.

He took the shoes out of the trunk.
He closed the trunk firmly.
He put on the shoes.
He picked up the DESERT EAGLE MESS YOU UP AT A GAZILLION MILES and put it in his pocket.

-eyeroll-

I assume this series, like the Reacher series, simply gets better as it goes as the author learns to write better. Or maybe they just found their audience who is very forgiving and exist in droves....

Kind of like Kurt Schlicter's 'Kelly Turnbull' books about a failed/split America... it's just not good.

Dang.

I am a snob.

:(

Hot dang, I just started Red Rising last night and couldn't put it down.

Haven't been this into a book since I last read 'The Gates of Fire'! (Which I highly recommend. One of the few books I read almost yearly, and I've bought and lost about 4 copies so far from loaning them to people.)

I dusted off my bible about 1-1/2 yrs ago. Since then he's delivered me from porn, pot, pills and alcohol. I'm still a work in progress but I believe he (Jesus) will finish the work he's started in me.
I had always believed in God and salvation through Jesus but the things of the world just (had) a strong hold on me.
When I was truly ready to change...I met him. Yes, Jesus. If interested in what happened and how...PM me
PS: The Count of Monte Cristo was a good read.

Just polished off all 4 books in @Atla west of prehistoric series.

Just finished the first three.

Excellent series. The first three wrap up to a pretty good stopping place, so I'll probably wait a bit before I continue on down the Iron Gold path.
