88 XJ..." The Abomination"

I'm so glad you understand there is nothing difficult or technical about welding, or weld testing.

You literally do not know enough about it, to understand that you know nothing about it.

The destructive weld test has more to do with bending over a radius and stressing the weld by forcing it to curve, putting half in compression and half in tension. It's has very little to do with ram force.

Fwiw, I rarely see over 800 psi developed pressure to the IIRC, 2" diameter hydraulic ram in out tester.

Typical pressure are 500-700 psi bending 1.5" wide 3/8 A36. Do the math and get your tonnage required.

I have no problem with your machine or wire.

I have no faith in your competency in executing a sound weld.

The pictures I've seen looked like the metal still had not been prepped.

Also appeared to be torch cut with no cleanup. Welding material that has been flame cut, with no cleanup can be tricky as the cut surface has been subjected to rapid oxidation and is no longer the same composition as the base metal, usually resulting in weld porosity due to contamination by slag.

As well for your machine, you should be multipass welding nearly everything .188" and thicker, depending on the joint.

I see single pass welds with no post cleanup and inspection.

@Mac5005
The single pass and lack of clean up were the big red flag for me. These build threads a place to *show off your nice work* as well as for people to comment and give advise.
This guy trusts his welds and doesn't need to clean and inspect.......most professional welders still knock the slag off their welds.

That's the thing that is so frustrating. Its the "pride cometh before the fall" the self confidence to the level of stupidity.

The thing is even the best welder among everyone here, clearly not the OP, but even the best of the best. There could potentially be a defect in the wire or an inconsistency in the flux....or hell just a human error during the burn in. You always check behind yourself. Always. Its just common sense. Hell every time I balance my checkbook I add it back up backwards (yep I'm that old school still manually balance my checkbook, laugh all you want) So professional welders who John would agree are better than him check their work but he doesnt need to.

Then he tells his "military" story. Despite being in the service less than 4 years he knows better than EVERY person who has came before him. Thhis country that has assembled the greatest army the world has ever known, he knows they do it wrong. In his heart he cant consider the fact that their ways work for reasons he has not yet understood. So since he is right and they are wrong he quits and then preaches on about his self righteous bull shit.

The problem is it is hard to know what we dont know. Humility and curiosity will teach you a lot.

Instead he has the attitude it has never failed so it must be ok. That attitude works great until it doesnt.
Look dude you have woke up every morning of your life and never died. Therefor waking up is easy, you will never die you are eternal.

Again Russian Roulette is 100% safe until it isn't.
And the part that he will never get whether you have played 1 time or 1,000 the odds of death are exactly the same every single time. Whether you have won 1 or 1,000 straight times it doesnt make it any less likely that this will be the last time.

But there are no stress cracks anywhere near his welds that he never cleans up to inspect.

While its fun to read his bullshit and laugh about the "awsome" "fab" work he does, and how he is the next Rambo! .........he is still a cancer! !!! He floods every thread with his diarrhea! He is a pain in the ass that is so stubborn and plain retarded that he will never change! He literally has NOTHING positive to give to the forum! !!!

Cmon guys...i already ASKED NICELY to please stop posting on this thread...I said I was sorry for clogging it up with my junk being at the top and respectfully moved my responses this morning over to the other thread so PLEASE STOP RESPONDING HERE and move over to the general chit chat "roll cage material" thread. THANK YOU

dude seriously Lincoln 140 welders are a very popular welders for the average mechanic shop and way more than capable of welding to any and all vehicle frames and stuff we...ok maybe I do. I bought this welder 4 years ago over a 220 cause a "professional welder" told me it will handle just fine anything up to 5/16 safely and easily yet not take up so much room and power and is easily portable as I also have used it many times for mobile jobs. Bigger is not always better for everyone's needs and these little welders would surprise people if they gave em a chance...those who still desire the 220, nothing wrong with that. I just have better needs for a smaller more compact versatile welder that suits every one of my needs and when i need a bigger hotter burning one, i just go borrow one.

I used to own and use a Lincoln 140. Now I have a Hobart 187. They are the same size.

Aside from the gas bottle, there is no major size difference or portability. My Hobart even has a handle on it to carry it around. :)

As for the bottle, I have it in the corner of the garage and have 50' of hose running to the welder so I don't have to constantly roll around and work around this huge bottle. My power cord is also 50'. On a side note, I don't know why more people don't put their bottles in the corner of the shop and just use a long hose. I wouldn't want to drag that bottle around everywhere.

huh...what's hard to understand here. if it's enough power to test it, i will weld some different plates flat together, then perpendicular and just random stuff and see how 36tons breaks/bends it...i don't see what's so "scientifically" thoughtful about it

You do realize this is so scientific that there are college degrees and certifications specifically for welding and testing of welds?

stop making me work extra hard responding to yall in a different thread...I've asked nicely for everyone to move onto other thread and you keep posting here which makes me think you guys don't really care for my crap clogging up certain areas of the forum....fine don't complain anymore than. I'm trying to be respectful here and nobody cares...can't seem to win with anyone. next person that complains about this build thread being up top....they can take it up with you guys not me.

You have asked nicely and we have decided not to.
You dont rule the world.

I can't even begin to touch the amount of welding and fab knowledge provided by so many of the members of this forum but, I will say, you sir are the type of individual I hate in the military and take pride in kicking the fuck out. After 14 years of active service (still in and planning on retiring), 7 deployments, and over 50 30 day or longer training rotations all over the world I will say that you and your mentality are a growth that is removed as fast as possible from any good formation as to not poison the rest and more than likely get them killed. The military is about unquestionable respect, discipline, and esprit de corps. You show none of those qualities. The fact the an Officer has a degree does not make him smarter in his charge as a leader of soldiers. It does however show a devotion to the army when he has a mandatory commissioning requirement based on him assuming the role as an Officer. I'm enlisted and have been my whole career. I have 2 degrees and I have never presumed that they made me a better leader. The qualities I have earned from learning from my peers and superiors through years of trial and error have made me the person I am today. Listening, observing, and emulating is the way forward. Gleaning the good from the bad. All I will finish with is a thank you. Thank you that you pussied out because you weren't man enough to be a private which is, by the way, the easiest job in the world!

well good for you sir. I hope the best for you and you seem to love it and that is all that matters. You honestly would've loved a soldier like me in battle because outside of the in class crap and name calling, i was superior in the field....After all I did sign up to go and actually fight, not being afraid of death or blood or anything so in my book that's one of the best soldiers you can have on your team. The Book smart soldiers are good for plotting routes and such but the fearless warriors ready for anything that comes are the ones that carry out the dirty scary work and that was me. Good Luck to you Sir on the rest of your service!!

I believe in: you must first earn respect. I'm not giving you anything, you must earn it.

At this point, you have taken lots of steps backwards to earning ANY respect.
well that's a heck of a way to live...so lets all go around life just being assholes to everyone we meet at work, school, church etc...cause until they "earn" respect, we ain't giving it to em...really? that's an interesting way to live, ..maybe according to the world

None of what you say makes any sense. We are not in the fucking Stone Age of grog and ugh slinging rocks and bashing heads. A well rounded warrior must be capable of ALL aspects. "Book smarts" are how you learn and attend courses to further both your education and your rank. Plotting courses are how you navigate to and from battle and also how you understand how to manipulate the enemy based on canalization (using terrain or alternate means to direct an enemy to your will). You have no clue what a true soldier is made of or requires so don't ever assume to. You may make many correlations to this and the above comment I made to what others have told you in regards to your "builds".

VERY well said soldier! I completely agree with your assessment of what it takes to serve this country. Thank you for your service.
I spent some time at Ft Polk myself as a 63T during Reagan's first term and even married a Vernon Parish gal.
If the GBI on 171 is still open, try out one of their jungle juice daiquiris. Good shit. :)
Thread hijack, but don't care.

No, just no. You are so full of yourself. You really think you are hot stuff and we should all respect you for no reason hahah.

hey cool. No disrespect to you man. If you took that stuff offensively than I can't help that. I was speaking about MY Experience and encounters but doesn't mean everyone is like that. I appreciate your service for the lengthy time you have served as you have way more patience than I could ever have with certain types of people and hope the rest of your years are just as good!

Well from what you are describing and teaching me here, I get this out of this class: my welds have held up because axle tabs, bumpers, control arms, exhaust, frame plating does not bend or curve those welds therefor maybe the kind of stuff I and most in this sport do with welding (especially boxing in brackets) will never see that swort of force exerted on it???? am I close...would make sense then.
I mean, an axle bracket that is welded on both sides of each piece then boxed in on one side.....there's pretty much nowhere that bracket can go if the welds to the housing on 4sides are descent....pretty much without a roll down a 500ft cliff or massive high speed impact the probability of those brackets and welds being bent or curved would be pretty slim to none...or am I wrong about this too

Ok.

It's worked out well so far. BTW, I don't expect (actually I don't expect anything) respect by anyone until I have earned it. Any respect received without earning it isn't worth crap.

It goes both ways.

well that's your way of living and thinking...I have mine. both are ok to each liking i reckon!! I just try to live by the great commission and new commandment "love one another the way Christ loves us" and "do unto others as you would have them do unto to you" I am by no means perfect at this but it is how I try to live and treat others day to day..stranger or friend and even enemy. (I am not being hollier than though so please, just stating where my thought on this subject comes from).

You can still be respectful with out giving someone respect. I don't think fuller understands the difference but I agree with you

Very true. Being respectful=being nice, even if you don't want to;giving respect is different.

I'll be respectful to Obama if I ever meet him, but he hasn't earned my respect on anything other than deceiving the voters
