We Bought a RV Clark!! Oh no! Rebuild thread

Both sides are now in place. We can only screw the outside edges...the inside part cannot be screwed to the cab until we get some resemblance of squareness..ish going on. We cant square up anything until we have the underside panel mocked up.
Ok..lets get the van roof cleaned and prepped with butyl tape and rubber seal.

Dont laugh..it worked petfectly. Once we got the floor jack on one side, and the high lift on the other we were able to square it up and add the cab screws. Pretty sure they dont do it this way at the factory..

@trailhugger @Creekin We've been working on it in some fashion or another, every single day since we bought it. At least 2 hours after work on some days many more on others . Bobby is my full time employee and a great friend.Bobby is on the books for many partial days and 6 full days here and there when we have a full day off. Kieth probably has over 20 hours in, just helping when he's off work and able to ride over. I probably owe him a little more than the winch at this point..although I did snag some ok bumpers from @WARRIORWELDING for him. Nothing fancy but better than he had.

Thanks again!@WARRIORWELDING for helping me help a buddy out.
Then theres my wife. She's worked many hours doing all kinds of stuff. It's cool to see her go all in when it comes to this project. She has accepted it has her baby too. Ella has helped out too. Maycee..well, she always seems to be slammed with homework, play practice and all around teenager busyness. Her time is coming. Everybody is gonna pull their load at some point or another. Looking good Dylan!

At least you get help... Carter only shows up when its time to load up and ride, Mattix isn't quite big enough to help yet, and Angel....well let's just say if it doesn't include her oldest favorite child or some dumbass "houswives of some fucked up county"...she's out...

There are some serious mad skills on display in this thread.
When you are done, any chance you will go into the business of making RV's or the RV repair business?
When I'm done. I'm going into the "let's go camping" business.

A man would need a big shop and a lot of better tools to make a living at this. I'm working in a gravel driveway!

Thanks Matt..you got me cracking up!

Now that we have the framework squared up ish..the big panel aka Ella's bedroom floor, is ready to be installed. This will help tie in the front and both side walls.
Everything has to be tight and right. With the installation of this panel, along with the 2 side panels, we are sealing it all up. With Butyl tape and rubber seals in the middle, this panel will be sandwiched between the van roof and a 2x4 frame that will be built on top.

Every thing lines up as it should. It's time to add more glue. I'm tired of glue. I've bought too much glue..I'm tired of glue. Glue glue glue...

fits perfectly!

Time to staple the edges! It's gonna be stuck now.

Looks like the plan is working out. Looking good on the outside.

Theres one thing I'm not super happy about. Theres a seam that I couldn't avoid, just above the van doors. This panel is just a little bit too big to be seamless. I have to figure a good way to keep water out of this seam.
20181127_145054.jpg

Can you believe I chose to use... FLEX TAPE?
Every thing about this stuff seems like it'll work. It might be a bit unsightly, but overall not horrible.
Flex tape is 12.oo and change for get this... 5 ft. That's all you get..5 inches wide, and 5 ft long! I'll need to split this in half!

Not sure if it helped or not, but it's cold outside so I figured adding a little heat to the frp wouldn't hurt. My little vinyl seam roller helped mash the flex tape into the panel.
Flex tape is nearly an eighth inch think. You can just tell its gonna a work perfectly for this seam. We'll have to see how it does in the long run.

Finished seam is top picture in this post. It looks a little ghetto, but it shouldn't leak. I'll keep an eye out for ways to make it look a little better.

After the big panel was in place, this is how the van roof and panel looked. The camera is at a weird angle, so I could capture the daylight between the two pcs. I'll have to build the framework on topside before we'll see it tied together.

Starting to layout the framework. This panel will be built just like the walls were. Which means layers and even more glue!

Hmmm..round corners out of 2x4s? Gotta figure this out.
20181127_154702.jpg
Made a pattern and cut this little pc out. Yes, I think that'll work.
20181127_154954.jpg
And once again it's time to glue it and screw it. Definitely want to pre drill holes in this stuff. Keep it from splitting when screws are added. Oh well....what's a little more work, right?

Suddenly theres a problem! Ella says the glue has become too cold to squeeze out. They think it"s quitting time.
20181127_163019.jpg
Brooke says it'll take hours to get the glue warm again. Let's take it inside the house and try again tomorrow..she says.

Wrong answer babe! Dont worry, I got this!

Worked like a charm.
