Lots of interesting news today

Serious question.
Is "asian" a "person of color"? A lot of asians skin is not white like mine. Southasian? Lot of brown skinned folks there. Or... polynesian?
I really do not know whom this term includes.

Pretty sure CNN is working a bit of spin on this one.... There is nothing saying who is eligible except for the income basis, nothing there about People of Color.

Then CNN Says "Oakland will give P.O.C. $500 a month", Well, That's true.... But I believe they'll also give a white family of three or more making less $59,000 the same "Guaranteed Income"

CNN is continuing to work to divide us, just so we click their crap, And Look! It worked!

I almost posted this exact same thing. But then I went and looked up the source article here.

Look at item number one. It clearly says that this is specifically for people of color.

So when all the successful people move out of Oakland and stop paying taxes, where will the "Guaranteed Income" come from? :shaking:

Oh but surely by then all of the people who were in in poverty will have risen up and then we'll be the taxpayers

But that's just spin again. Surely any outreach by the people running the program will be targeted at PoC, and that's the only way it will be "For" them, But if you dig deeper into the supporting reports and qualifications (such as found on Financial Health ) It becomes more clear that the Qualifiers are all financial, and that the largest percentage of folks falling into those financial categories are PoC. But if the 7 percent of White folks that qualify find out about the program and apply, there aren't any barriers to them receiving the payments that I can find.

Where did you find the actual qualifiers?
The Financial Health page says nothing about this program. It just provides the background data that suggests which subgroups are most in need of help.
Nowhere can I find anything that actually states "eligibility requirements" except for this line on the page I linked... which seems pretty clear:
". Who is this for? Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) (i.e. groups with the greatest wealth disparities per the Oakland Equity Index) with low incomes and at least 1 child under 18, regardless of documentation status. The term “family” is defined broadly to recognize that families come in all shapes and sizes.

It dosn't say "People falling into the financial categories X and Y".
"WITH" certain says "You have to be BOTH a POC AND have low income."

This page is literally from the Oakland city government.

I hope they do the right thing, for the first time.
In your opinion, what is the "right" thing?

Yup, It does say that in the first paragraph, You'll get no argument from me on that....

Then in Bullet 2 it defines "low income".

Paragraph three is the important one, "How are Families Chosen", and it's through outreach, Here they can and will concentrate on People of Color, But if the Family is mixed, and one happens to be Caucasian, I'll bet they are still given the application URL, and if just one of their Outreach workers says to himself that a certain Caucasian couple with a child needs this just as much or more than a struggling Hispanic couple, They'll give them the application URL, and the folks will qualify.

If they truly have a racial qualifier, Which I still don't see mentioned anywhere, then it will have to be on the application itself, and the ACLU should get involved at that point, But Unless someone actually complains, that won't happen.

Right, because the ACLU cares about white people.

Actually, if you go to their website and review the cases they're involved in, you'll find they do take cases like the hypothetical we're discussing... The organization isn't color blind, but they'll look into anything they think has merit as a violation of anyone's civil liberties.

If they would make all of those parents touch the fence, they wouldnt worry about it anymore. Like the farmer said, it just scares you, it wont hurt you.

this is what happens when people lead a sheltered life and don't touch an electric fence as a kid.

All I can do is shake my head in disbelief at how pussified people are anymore. As kids we'd see who could touch the damn things the longest. Do kids not have BB gun fights anymore? I have girls so I really don't know.
