Lots of interesting news today

Bro, FAFSA pays for it duh, our student loans will be forgiven as soon as we get a minority female president dawg
You wouldnt believe how many 4wd parts I have sold to folks using money meant for school.

When fafsa hit the scene schools started charging a lot more tuition, college campuses started to get fancy, and the crappy cheap student housing turned into luxury apartments. That’s why I csnt get behind student loan forgiveness. It’s like someone chose a party over work and they now want some of the stockpile

CEO Elon Musk’s comments during an earnings call that he would reduce his role with the Department of Government Efficiency to focus more attention on Tesla. Musk did not commit to ending his DOGE work altogether though, noting he may continue in some capacity through the remainder of President Donald Trump’s second term

So, after trying to mandate all cars be electric by 2030, the drmocrats have practically killed only American manufacturer with a viable ev, because he wanted to prevent waste and fraud in gvt spending. Go team go.

He may be weird/ douchey, and I’m no Tesla fanboy, but they are the best ev on the market that is economically feasible

I'd disagree that the democrats have practically killed them. To me that would be like blaming republicans for Bud Light, Bud Light was stupid and didn't understand their target market and fucked up. You can't blame the consumer when the company doesn't understand what choices they make how it influences their target market.

Also, everybody saw sales declines coming that isn't stupid. There is only a limited amount of people that are willing to purchase and EV. The more people buy, and the more other manufacturers come out with competing products, the slower sales are going to get (or decline). Tesla's last main advantage was the supercharger network, and they opened that up to everybody else now. I don't think Tesla is the best ev on the market anymore. It is still a great EV, but there are plenty of competitors now that are in the same price range, with similar tech (and potentially better service, which is always an issue Telsa owners talk about). In the Model 3/Y price range there are TONS of options now, vs 3 years ago there were only a handful.

They also still did $19B in sales, they are doing just fine still.

Stop with your common sense and ability to see past agendas. This, coupled with your non-fear of firearms, is gonna get you booted from the current assumed grouping you're in

I don't CHOOSE to fly much on my own. Usually it's business trips to see mfg facilities to approve and spec a product....The last vendor trip I took was about a year ago. We flew to Boston and in the airport, we headed down to the car rental row. My guy had a SUV reserved at Avis. It was a new Wagoneer. At the counter the rental dude was hard core PUSHING an EV. Like...he was gonna get a $500 kickback if we chose an EV kinda pushing :shaking: my guy declined and we pressed on with the wagoneer. As he was finishing up, I saw a couple come up to the rental dude next to ours. Apparently their reservation at enterprise fell thru and they ONLY had EV's so they came to Avis. Their dude said ALL they had left was EV's. I asked our agent if they had a problem renting EV's and he confirmed that hardly anyone REQUESTS an EV. It's what they get left with after everyone had taken the gas cars.

I thought that was rather interesting

I aim to confuse!

EV's for rental cars are even dumber than EV's for distance traveling. Sounds like a great idea to go to a city where you don't know, so you don't know where chargers are, or how far your drive might be ahead of time. Combine that with finding a charger when you are a hotel, and even dumber. People need to use some more critical thinking.

BUT 2024 was the first year in the company's history that they sold fewer cars than the previous year.

serious question bc I've never rented an EV.
At all rental places you pay a ridiculous fee if you don't return it w/ the gas topped off full (a rate of like $7/gal).
Is this a thing for the EVs too? Doesi t have to be returned charged?
If not, thats a not-terrible reason to rent one. I absolutely hate dealing with that last-minute scramble to get gas when returning a car.
And if you do the its an even better reason not to rent one.

2024 also had more EV options for the limited buyers that want them than ever before also.

Also you chart is production not sales  , but graph looks very similar. Sales only declined by 20k. We can probably just blame Biden and inflation though (or maybe its that competition thing)

Looks like at least hertz has a few options, just like gas stuff

Avis is similar - Electric Car Rental - Book Online Today
4) BATTERY CHARGING LEVELS AT VEHICLE RETURN: Your EV must be returned to Avis with a battery charge level of at least 70%. You may recharge the EV at public or private locations at your expense. You may have to register or create an account at some of these locations and you are responsible for any required registration (including accepting the terms and conditions and privacy policy) and any fees. If returned at less than 70% but more than 10% battery charge level, a charging fee of $35 will be assessed to you. If returned with less than a 10% battery charge level, you will be assessed an additional low charge fee of $35 (a total of $70 charging fees if returned with a battery charge of less than 10%). The charging fee is based on the kilowatt hours, overhead, loss of use of the EV and administrative costs Avis incurs in charging the vehicle. Note: fees assessed in the United States refer to U.S. dollars and fees assessed in Canada refer to Canadian dollars.

I will not rent an EV. I have no plans to buy an EV either. I'm just not interested.
i wouldn't mind a cheap EV to get back and forth to work (35 miles round trip) and just plug it in every night when i got home

been looking at used Leafs

I'm the same way as Ben, a cheaper EV, without all the bells and whistles for just around town driving wouldn't be bad. I don't need a 300 mile range, give me one with 100.

I'll drive my truck when I want to go farther (and normally do anyways).

No desire to buy a 60k one

I love my electric UTV because UTVs are loud and you can't drive them to a gas station, but the EV is quiet and I can charge it overnight while its parked at the garage. However, my car and truck are quiet and there are gas stations everywhere I go, so an electric vehicle has no advantage in daily driver application for me. The environmental claims of the EV crowd are patently bullshit, but I'd love a Tesla Plaid or something along those lines to absolutely blister the tires stoplight to stoplight. The fun would also wear off after the 2nd arrest.
