Your fab work looks like something out of a Pro shop with every fancy machine/tool you could imagine, so it’s mind blowing knowing you do most of it with fairly common tools with a lot of time, thought and elbow grease. Especially the pieces you put holes in.

If I ever won the lottery, I’d bring you a pile of money with a small list of what I want and let you get creative with everything else.

Another badass build thread from this guy!

I really really dig the gussets there. I'm trying to figure up exactly what the shortest length tube would need to be cut off of a stick in order to still run it through the bender. Obviously it's a die specific question. But how much length of DOM do you reserve to get your 90 gussets? Me personally, I wouldn't care if it was 2', those are worth it.

I had the same question on another forum, this is a copy of part of my reply.


That is 1.5" x .120 wall (4.5" centerline radius die) , (on a race car I would use the same size material as the cage).

90° corner, 3.5" legs. I always bend the tubing to the same degree as the joint it gussets. When bending from a full stick, it takes about 14" of tubing per gusset (I cut it off the stick at the deformation line after I set up for the next bend ); bending from a cut piece takes 17" in my bender. Lots of waste, but IMO, these are the best looking gussets versus plate and formed sheet. They're probably overkill as far as gussets go, but they look damn nice when welded in.

I cut the contour with my band saw set vertical or with my porta band; sometimes I even use my plasma. Lots of grinding for a proper fit. Once I get one leg correct, I'll trace the opening onto a piece of scrap tube to match the second leg. I use a framing square to make sure it matches the cage.

Interior tube work nearly complete. Couple tie ins from front clip engine tubes (you can see them under the cowl), seat contour door bars, seat belt tabs, rear most seat tabs, and then onto finishing front half tubing and begin plate work.

Someone could definately learn alot from you if they were willing to pay attention and put forth the effort to do the work! I damn sure wished i lived a little closer! I have learned quite a bit just from asking you silly questions and staring at your build threads!!
