45 days and 45 nights, updated :)

Spent an afternoon at Mesa Verde. It probably was one of the more interesting places we’ve visited. But unfortunately, all the cool ranger led hikes and tours were cancelled and some of the Hines were closed due to extreme fire risk. So, we didn’t spend much time here but wish we could have. We’ll be back to experience the full park.

This morning we left Mesa Verde and headed east to OK. Made some nice stops along the way; even saw a modern day Route 66 ghost town and ended up on a dirt road with the pusher and the Jeep in tow. Had to disconnect the Jeep and do a 15 point turn to get back on the interstate.

And a trip through Texas on I40 wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Cadillac Ranch. :D

kids had a ball tagging the cars. They could have spent all night there painting.

And for anyone in the future that visits, please pick up your cans and tops. There were probably several hundred strewn all over the place. And there is a dumpster right by the gate for trash. We carried out way more than we brought in.

Oh, and a trip through Albuquerque wouldn’t be complete without a couple Breaking Bad drive bys. :D

Waltand Skyler’s house. It’s tough to recognize from the show because it’s changed a bit. The tree is much bigger, there is now a gate/fence around the property, and some of the house colors are different. Also, she now has a new roof that replaced the brown shingles from the show. The lady that owned it was outside and looked a bit perturbed while she was talking to someone in a black SUV. Was funny, she had a sign out front saying to “take pictures from across the street”. We stayed in the RV and did a drive by photo shoot. :)

All I can say is I've broke down here: Albuquerque.

wonder if my sticker is still there?
Stock class XJ build.

I’m sure the sticker is there but surely covered up with paint. I was reading some history about the cars and painting, etc. Hampton Inn did a promo not long ago where it painted all the cars back to their original colors. It lasted less than 24 hours before graffiti started covering it back up. And, June 20, 2020, someone painted all the cars black for Black Lives Matter. Well, when we were there, no signs of black existed. So, graffiti gets covered up pretty quickly.

Not much from the past few days. We stopped at Lake Thunderbird State Park in Norman, OK for a couple days. Bri spend a few years here in middle school and she wanted to show the girls around.

And, a stop in Norman wouldn’t be complete without a little rose rock hunting. :D

No good updates other than a lot of windshield time. We opted to bypass Hot Springs (Booo!) so we could keep hauling East and have a good day stopover in Pigeon Forge before continuing East to get home. We have an appt Saturday to pick up our lab (Porter) from the trainer, so we aren’t as flexible on our return date as I had hoped for. But it’s all good, we miss our buddy and our home. And the beach and salt water! Can’t wait to get the boat back out and do some fishing.

Sad to see this trip coming to a close. You have inspired me to get on with the planning for our trip to Utah either next year or '22, depending on the 'rona.

Thanks for sharing your travels.

We are going to do 2 nights in the Pigeon Fordge area, so we are going to do a couple things there before the last push home.

if we didn’t have to be home to pick up Porter, we would stop at AOP and watch som of the Ultra4 race there on Friday/Saturday. Maybe next time. At least I get to see some of the teams on the road traveling. Good luck to all racers and be safe.

As far as gallons of fuel... I’ll have to check receipts. It’s a tough one to judge. Some legs i was getting 7-8mpg and others I was getting less than 5mpg. Sometimes we hauled with the generator running, sometimes not. Right now we are in Memphis and are right at 5750 miles driven so far. I estimated 6300-6500 miles for the trip, so we won’t be far off by the time we make it home.

Does the RV have a Cummins? If so we have to offset the gallons consumed with the gallons produced ;)
