500HP YJ Build

Sell all the motor parts you have, and hunt around for a good deal on a 5.3 or 6.0.

You should be smacked for even suggesting such stupidity. :flipoff:

Honestly not sure at this point. The heads will get a new set of springs for sure. Business is starting to pick up with URE opening back up so might have a little more dough than I thought. I have a few ideas brewing just need to do a little more digging before I make up my mind.

Dang man...just a joke. You should use that big brain of yours and run a fuel injected motor! Step out of your comfort zone....

I know man, I was just messing with ya. lol. Injection or propane will come in the future, but for now I wanna get this done. Budget's already blow to hell.

Finally some good news motor related!!! The more I got to thinking about running a stock 406 bottom end, the less I liked it. So I started hunting c-list and elsewhere to see what I could find. Got lucky and ran across a 355 short block, just got back from Pembroke, NC picking it up! Has JE forged flat tops pistons, 6.25" Crower rods, and a Cola 4340 forged crank. Blocks been decked, line bored, bored and honed and the roatating assembly have been blue printed and balanced with paper work, never been run! With that combo, should hold up to about anything I can throw at it, leaning towards a 7000 rpm pill in the box. :burnout: I'll get some pics up tomorrow, need to get someone over to the house to unload it from the 3/4 ton Honda. lol. Keith decked the heads and I'll picking those up Monday, New springs, retainers, shims, and locators will be ordered sometime soon.

What kind of heads are you running?

Pro Comp 210cc intake runner, 64cc combustion chamber angle plug heads that have been ported and gasket matched to fel-pro 1206
Translation... I have a small wiener!!

Made some progress on getting the front axle regeared today. Tore the trussed Dana 60 down to get the gears out then tore down the non trussed 60. Pulled the bearings off, cleaned the some rust off the gears and carrier, and fixed the buggered up threads on the pinion from the PO hitting the threads with a chisel to keep the pinion nut from backing off. Called it a night after that. Found out both 60's have the non neckdown inners in them.

What compression ratio is the new motor going to have?

What compression ratio is the new motor going to have?

Hard to say for sure since the combustion cambers haven't been cc'ed since getting decked. I gonna say somewhere around 10.5 static, 7.75 dynamic. Should be very pump gas (93 octane) friendly.

Lookin good, what are you going to do with all the extra 60 parts?

Thanks man. Depends on the money situation. The way things are looking now, probably gonna re-assemble the trussed one and sell as whole or might part out.

This has been a week of getting a whole lot of nothing done. Picked up a temporary 2nd shift warehouse job to put some extra funds in my pocket and haven't had time to get much of anything done. This weekends, I'm working on a buddies XJ Saturday, then heading out parts running Sunday. The temp job ends Wednesday so I'll be able to get back on it full steam then. With that being said, I starting to realize I have less than 2 weeks till The Flats and am nowhere near being done, if anybody wants to come help, PM me. I have been able to get all the parts needed to get the motor back together. Ended up with new valve springs, retainers, locators, shims, seals, timing set, and a full set of new gaskets. Also ordered a B&M Z-Gate shifter.

Forgot to add, the front was welded when I got the axle so I'm gonna go ahead and use it, have a hydro assist setup that's going on as well. In the past, I've never had good luck with welded spiders and high HP so figured I'd throw some more weld on there to hopefully make things hold, maybe. Preheated to 500* for an hour, then welded, then put back in the oven to slowly cool down. For some reason the house smelled a little funny when I went to go to work.

^^^LOL! Nothing like the smell of some home cooked gear oil coming fresh out of the oven!

Rode down to Pittsboro yesterday and picked up a set of 15x10 8 lug chrome wagon wheels. :bling:

What is the BS on those rims?

4"b/s. Have a set of calipers and brackets that are already ground.

I'm running chrome on the boggers, you going to be done by Friday?

Made some progress today. Finished up gearing the 60 and reassembled it. While I was was going that a buddy came over and started tear down. Also tested fitting the wheels on the 60, lifes good there. Got the front axle, front sheet metal, and motor pulled and got the old motor mounts cut off and ground down. Unforantley while on a parts the run, the timing belt on the 3/4 ton Honda let go. Called Mike at Carolina Torque Convertors and have him working on a 2800 custom built stall convertor for me, that'll be ready to pick up Sat. Worked out a deal with Snappy to use his shop to do the finish welded on this thing once its all tacked together. Dropped the 14 carrier off with a buddy to get that welded, will start gearing the 14 bolt once I get that back. Front axle will be going in tomorrow morning. Getting ready to work threw the night and get the motor put together. Yes yall read that right, in the middle of a 36 hour work day, I wanna go wheeling!
