Automotive bubble....has it burst?

Na, we could fix most of traffic woes if the current laws were just enforced. Not hundreds of billions on new 'tech' and overreaching gov't mandates. Oh, and get school buses and slow moving trucks off the interstate. But you're right, no one wants to do anything at all. Laziness and apathy has taken a firm grip.

I firmly believe the single biggest thing rhe average person can do to change their financial future is to sincerely vow and have zero car payments
I'll add, and put the money they would have spent on that expensive car payment straight from their paycheck into their 401k so they don't even see it or feel it leave their hands.

See: Frieghtliner chassis control module for example.
There's a ton of them out there with no front turn/marker lamp on one side. The part has been on galactic backorder for years.
Volvo has a plant in Dublin VA.3-4 years ago we were up there at one of Tonya's sales and their were Volvo trucks parked in every available space around town.I saw a guy who was wearing a uniform from there and ask him about it.He said they were waiting one a/c component.Apparently there's only one place (at the time) that made that particular type of part and it was being used by multiple companies and they couldnt keep up.A friend of mine has a body shop in Big Stone Gap VA and had a new-ish VW of some sort that hit a deer back in the fall.Took them until the second week in Jan to get all the parts to fix it.

Are you implying that a law against texting and driving, which may help keep your family safe, is an overreaching govt mandate?

A reverse camera being mandated because automakers won't design a car properly and moron drivers can't be bothered to look around is overreaching.

Honestly, it could be. IMHO the better option is to punish the result. Kill somebody while doing something stupid? Capital offense with a minimum sentence of 25-life.

Most of us are old enough that we grew up driving with minimal or no features. A few years of high school was an 87 ford ranger with a 4 banger, straight drive, no power steering, no AC, crank windows, with a 1000 degree vinyl bench seat in the summer. That sob never left me stranded other than a stuck front caliper once. It was the only time it would do a burnout. It had the front right wheel locked up so tight it was like having a line lock. I could dump the clutch and smoke the back right wheel at a dead stand still. All these new vehicle features are for the ghey’s. I like to suffer from point A to B. Keeps you hard.

I agree. Harsher punishment for doing stupid stuff should be enacted across the board.

I'm fine with no more laws and removing most laws, we don't enforce them anyway.

But let some street justice be accepted.

What?

A govt mandate for a camera and a screen In a car, effectively making me buy it, because automakers are lazy and people are lazy, is overreaching to me.
100% missing the point.

Yeah but does it have a spare tire?
Legit had a customer curse me out about me losing her spare tire. 1 that we never touched, and 2 that she never had from the factory 🤣 I made her apologize to my guys in the shop after her rant when they showed up to help her change a spare. Also we lost her wheel lock key, when it had normal lug nuts?!? A case of we did tires on her car 2 years ago and now we’re responsible for flats. Can’t fix stupid

Oh yeah that’ll be real fun. Always someone out there tougher than you bud.

My mom is car shopping. We stopped by the GMC dealer in Augusta GA Saturday and their lot is packed! Mostly trucks but had a good number of Acadias and small "suvs" also. The lot was full to the point there was no customer parking.
It’s been about a month since I drove by, but Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet on Hwy 16 has had only about 6-12 vehicles on their lot at any given time for at least the last year.
I don’t know what kind of other stuff their dealing in, but selling new vehicles can’t possibly be keeping them afloat.

Their body shop pretty much keeps them going. They've had the same 6 trucks on the lot for months, and for the first time in years I'm seeing prices in big number stickers on the windshield!

New stuff's not selling like it was.
